The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Assembly w/ Parking Brake # K23-086-00 and # K23-087-00 both utilize the 12V power from your electric brake controller for regular brake operation or the 12V breakaway battery for emergency braking, but utilizes the manual lever on the backside of the brake assembly for a mechanical brake to hold your trailer in place when the parking brake cable assembly is used.

For this mechanical parking brake feature Dexter doesn't offer an assembly for their brake assemblies, but the Titan Breakaway and Parking Kit for Drum Brakes # T2385200 has worked very well in most cases with very slight modifications needed for connection to the mechanical lever on the back of the brake assemblies. This modification is basically adding a bolt, washer and nut that you will wrap the cable around much like a bicycle brake. I've attached some videos to assist as well as a photo to show you that lever.

Just to clarify, the emergency brake is not manual. The emergency braking is done with a breakaway system that uses a battery to energize your brake magnets. I recommend using the Hopkins Engager # 20099 for this. I've attached an article to help further. The only manual brake engagement is on the parking brake which will keep your trailer wheels from moving when parked under the correct cable tension.
