Rightline Gear Sport Jr on top of car

The Rightline Gear Sport Jr. cargo bag holds your gear securely on the roof of your vehicle. It can be mounted on the roof rack, cargo basket, or bare roof of most small, compact cars, wagons, and sedans. This premium, aerodynamic cargo bag is perfect for any camping trip, shopping spree, or family vacation.

PVC Semi-Coated Mesh XT

Closeup of Sport Jr. cargo bag material and inner PVC layer

The bag is made of PVC semi-coated polyester mesh XT. The material is treated with WeatherGuard waterproofing and blocks 98 percent of UV rays to help prevent fading. The PVC material is also strengthened with a nylon grid that helps prevent rips and tears. This waterproof fabric stays flexible in hot or cold temperatures so it can be folded for compact storage.

Watertight, Double-Sealed Seams

Closeup of Sport Jr. cargo bag seam and material

The bag has double-sealed seams to protect your cargo from the elements. The seams are sewn to reinforce the connections and then fused together to create a watertight seal that blocks out rain and snow.

Waterproof Zipper

Diagram of zip right zipper placement on cargo bag

The SZIP zipper is welded onto the surface of the bag and concealed under a layer of waterproof rubber. This gives the zipper more shelter from rain than ordinary under-the-flap zippers. The Zipper also has a waterproof TPU coating. The coating makes the zipper thick and the bond between sides tight. Apply a small amount of the included lubricant to the surface of the zipper to make it slide smoother and easier.

Loaded Sport Jr. cargo bag unzipped and on top of vehicle

The zipper also runs three-quarters of the way around the roof bag, so you can easily load up the bag or access your gear.

Versatile Mounting Options

Rightline Gear Sport Jr. cargo bag tied down to roof rack side rails on top of vehicle

The Sport Jr. cargo bag can be attached to a roof rack, factory raised side rails, or a cargo basket with the integrated straps. Simply wrap each strap around a solid anchor point, thread the strap first through the end loop and then through the buckle, and pull it tight.

Rightline Gear Sport Jr clips

To mount the bag on a naked roof, attach the 4 included car clips to the straps and hook them over the door frame weather molding. The hooks have 5/8" openings to fit over the door ledges. Your vehicle's doors should close easily over the hooks to secure them in place.

A roof pad (sold separately) is available to keep the bag from sliding around and to protect the top of your vehicle from scratches.

Locking Options

Zipper in the flap of Sport cargo bag

To lock up the bag, run a Rightline Gear locking cable (sold separately) through the cutouts in the zipper pulls. Then, if you want to lock the bag to your roof, run the cable around your roof rack rails.

Worked exactly as needed. Kept everything safe and dry for a 20hour road trip through ice and fog.

by:

This worked out great I put itvon top of my 94 honda civic. My order came 2 day delivery right before Christmas. My daughter and I had no trouble strapping it on roof and drove fr St. Charles Illinois all the way to Tacoma WA through rain, wind major snow storm. Nothing got wet inside and the bag didn't move at all. The straps that xame with the product were okay but I also used straps that had a come a long brackets to make it super tight. Best 80.00 I ever spent and love my rooftop luggage bag.

by:

I selected this bag because of the reviews, the price, the fact that it is actually waterproof (not water resistant like so many other products out there) and the fact that the dimensions of the 9cu ft said it should fit within my Rhino Rack RMCB01 roof basket(the 12cu ft model should fit on the roof alone without the basket but that isn't the route I went) As a side note I wanted a roof box but this combo cost me about 1/2 the cost of a good box. I also didn't want to place bag this directly on my roof (which the product is designed to do). I have a cargo net and some straps that will secure it and keep an under-packed bag from flapping around at highway speeds.

With a baby on the way, I didn't want to rely on my wife's SUV only, if we have to travel in inclement weather. After it arrived I filled it with our normal suitcase, dog kennel (for small breed) and a couple of bookbags full of clothes with some room to spare. This leaves the hatch space open for the behemoth of a stroller my wife got (and at least another bag or so with the wheels off). We don't have one yet, but I believe with re-arranging of the bookbags I could fit a travel pack n play. For reference the car is a 2010 mazda 3 hatchback.

I have not had a chance to test this out on the open road yet or in a rainstorm for that matter so I cannot attest to the actual waterproofing aspect. I also have zero experience with waterproof material but initial inspection the design seems sturdy and maybe its just me but every time i pull the zipper i feel I am going to rip it out(could just be the amount of resistance I'm feeling, as you have to basically bend the "corners" of the bag just right so that the zipper track moves) and I worry about snagging the bag getting mounted even though the material seems tough enough. I am the overcautious type and I may be more delicate with it than I need to be so it'll probably be fine. I may update review after I actually get to use it but from the aspect of why I bought it, what it can store and the price point it fulfills all of that thus far. Size wise I thought it was going to be too small when I ordered but it fits my needs perfectly fine.

I was very pleased with etrailer, I checked a few websites that I've ordered from before and this time i paid attention to the other reviewers. Delivery was fast and etrailer even emailed to confirm I had received the product.

Lastly, my only complaint was that the factory box the bag came in looked like it had escaped a prison camp then thrown off a cliff. I took photos just in case but the contents were fine so no biggie.

This product performed as hoped. It withstood the 1000+ mile drive from Florida to Michigan and shows no wear and tear what so ever. It remained secure throughout the trip. It made no noise. All contents were dry on arrival.

Continues to perform at an above satisfactory level. Absolutely no complaints.

The Rightline Sport Jr. Rooftop Cargo Bag was a lifesaver for our vacation trip. There's no way we could have fit gear into a Nissan Juke for a week at the beach for two adults, one mother-in-law, one large dog and one medium dog without it. Plus, it was the perfect size for our Nissan Juke -- it snugged to the roof perfectly and was secure for the whole 6 hour trip there and the 6 hour trip back. The cable lock (RL100640) and non-skid pad (RL100650) we bought added an extra level of security. We also got an extra set of clips (RL100600) just for peace of mind in case we managed to break or lose any (we didn't!).

by:

I use this bag a ton! It’s very sturdy, definitely water proof (we’ve been thru some crazy storms) and easy to tie down. One suggestion…. Twist the straps before securing. If you leave them straight, they make an unbelievably loud sound as if they’re a giant instruments reed.

by:

We used this roof bag to travel from Northeast Ohio to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, in a small 4 door Ford Focus.
We drove through torrential rain, tornado like winds and clear skies. Our belongings stayed attached, dry and uneffected by outside elements.
There was a slight learning curve with attaching it via the wearherstripping hooks. And the only reason this product gets 4 stars is that water leaked into our car where the hooks came in, in spite of readjustment.
After much use on that trip, it is still in excellent condition.

by:

This bag is very sturdy and held a good bit. My big disappointment was that when it rained, water poured into my car where the straps were attached. This might be more of an issue on some cars due to their design, I don't know. It was also less of an issue when I was driving at a high speed. But being stopped in heavy traffic during a downpour meant cups of water pouring into my packed car. Not fun! I'm sure I'll use it again, and can only hope for sunny weather.

by:

works well, zipper is rugged and covered, so it takes some effort to use but that is part of being weatherproof. I used it on a horizontal tire rack mounted at my trailer hitch. I needed a non specific mounting system for that. Functioned perfectly and is reasonably priced

by:

This is a great product. I took this from Florida to Colorado and on trails with no issue. I put it on a Yakima rack and it still in great shape surviving all conditions and it does not leak.

by:

I don't want to squew rating. I bought this for my motorcycle trailer thinking I would need extra storage capacity, but have yet to unpack it from box :-(. Other reviews seem good.

by:

Only 4 stars cause I haven’t had a chance to use the bag yet. Sturdy construction, excellent zipper, and nice tie down straps. I purchased it to store two sleeping bags a 2 person self inflating mattress and two backpacks for our overlanding adventures. Simple ,sturdy and waterproof is what I was after.

by:

I drove many high speed miles with this product on the top of my small car which does not have a rack on it. It did not budge. It is much sturdier than I expected it to be and definitely holds more than I anticipated. I would recommend this to everyone.

by:

I have made several trips with this all over the country.....Went through a severe snow storm it was frozen solid ,let it thaw in the garage everything was dry as a bone. This spring went through a very bad thunderstorms in Kentucky. the storm followed me for three days. Again dry as a bone. The best carrier ever.

by:

I just received it so I cannot evaluate it for performance. I am going to change out the plastic strap holders with small stainless steel buckles and use a racket tie down. I will use it for jeep trips and test it to see if it is truly waterproof.

by:

I used this Driving from Upstate NY to Denver Colorado. I was driving speeds of 80MPH and had no problems. I did encounter some hard rain and the cargo carrier never had a leak. If you are looking for a cost effective carrier this is it.

by:

Good product we use it about 5 times a year rain, snow, and shine. Does keep your stuff dry. Only issue i have with it is zipping it up

by:

The stitching holding a rear D ring started ripping when we first tried attaching the straps to the bag and car. I was not able to ever use this item though thankful it started ripping before the car was traveling on a turnpike!

by:

Very nice cargo container. Bought for and installed on my new Arctic Cat Wildcat atv hard roof. Fits perfect, excellent quality and materials
Thanks a million.

by:

Well built. We did a practice run with my grand daughters setting up the protection pad and cargo bag on the roof of my Chevy HHR. Everything fits fine.

by:

Kept everything very dry. Hard to put on my 2dr VW rabbit without a roof rack but we made it work.

by:

Seams split open after 6 hours on roof, First time used! Not over packed.
Not groovy.

by:

Tough. Big enough. Works well on my r ack.

Everything?s working just as designed, and I?m happy with them all. Thanks.

by:

This product is exactly what I've been looking for. Not only is it cost effective, but it also fits everything I needed it for. I plan to use this in my cross country move and It has allowed for us to have a bit more space in the car so that we can have a little extra breathing room. It's an excellent product.

by:

Looks like it will be a good purchase. I have not used it as of yet, but am looking forward to trying it. It was shipped in a very timely fashion.

Yes! The Rightline Gear Sport Jr. # RL100S50 has the ability to mount between your factory crossbars on your 2020 4Runner. You want to make sure you have a crossbar spread of at least 36" to accommodate for the length of the bag.

Please confirm this information with your owners manual. I would not recommend a cargo bag that rests directly on the roof of a vehicle that has a sunroof like your 2010 Toyota Prius. Especially since you have a solar panel up there as well. You can still use the Rightline Gear Sport Jr. part # RL100S50 but you'll also need to install a roof rack and basket so that it wouldn't rest on your vehicle roof. So first for a roof rack the Rhino Rack part numbers # RRVA118B-2, # RRRLKVA, and # DK195 would be a great place to start. It's a higher quality...
