Today we'll be taking a look at the SportRack Vista, weather resistant rooftop cargo bag with 13 cubic feet of space, part number SR8106. Now this bag can be installed on your roof rack, in a cargo basket, side rails, or crossbars. This cargo bag allows you to carry luggage and other cargo on the roof of your vehicle and frees up passenger space. You can see it has this nice flap that goes over the zipper, so when your car is all loaded up and you have the zipper closed, this flap is just going to provide additional protection from water, dust and debris from seeping in and damaging the contents of the bag. Now there is a total of eight straps which secure the bag to your roof rack system. This bag is made of a heavy duty, water-resistant nylon. It's going to help keep the contents of the bag nice and dry.
This SportRack Vista has a carrying capacity of 13 cubic feet, a weight capacity of 130 pounds, and its dimensions are 35 inches long by 35 inches wide by 18 inches tall and it comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Now we'll go ahead and show you how to install it. Now directly out of the box I'm just going to unfold it and get it placed up over the crossbars. For today we have our raised side rails here, which is how we going to be installing the bag. So now what we're going to do is with our bag unzipped, we'll go ahead and load up some gear. Now if you we're loading like a larger bag or maybe one big, large suitcase, the bag does open from three sides, you'll be able to fold the top flat over, so basically all you have to do is just place that heavy suitcase up on top of your roof. With it all zipped up, Ill double check to make sure this flap is over our zipper.
So now I went ahead and unbuckled the strap, and I bring this around the side rail of the jeep here, loosen up the strap a little bit, bring it back up, hook it into the buckle. Then we will repeat that process for the other three straps. Then once we get them all in place, then I can go ahead and tighten them down. A neat thing about having the strap system is when the straps are tight, you're pulling it down this way, its going to put down pressure on the gear as well, so its going help prevent your gear from kind of sloshing around, especially if you have any breakable items in the bag. Now depending on how much strap you have extra, you want to try to secure that excess strap as best as your can. And what tends to happen is is the straps will flap around in the wind and cause the straps to fray, and when the straps fray, it basically just reduces the overall lifespan of the strap.
So for the unused straps, for example here at the front, I actually just going to buckle the two together. Again, that is just going to help keep them kind of contained and possibly prevent the buckle from flapping down and coming in contact with the roof of your car. So now that we got our gear loaded up and the bag is nicely secured to the roof, we'll go ahead and take it out for a test drive and show you how it performs. etrailer sold us the perfect sized, and perfect priced carrier to fit the basket. It was a bargain at $xx for 13 Cu ft of tough water resistant fabric.
Came strongly packed, and right on time. We will saddle up the CMax next week and head for the beach for Thanksgiving!
I was really looking forward to this rack as I'll be running my roof tent on it. Unfortunately it came damaged, since the damage was limited to the end caps I went ahead and mounted it.
The rack itself looks slick, comes with little measuring sticks to make sure you install it straight the first time, comes with all the tools required.
So thats about it for good stuff.
Wind noise , to give you an idea how bad it is I have this on a old f250 with a bad muffler and 33in mud tires and its still almost intolerable! It's like they put it in a wind tunnel and tuned for as much noise as possible.
I also ordered a roof bag at the same time , I wasn't expecting much from it . It's a bag with a zipper and straps. Sadly the hardware is junk and I snapped a buckle with some light tensioning.
Customer service
Initial service was as good or better than expected. Things went downhill when the damage was reported. I told the rep I was only at a US address for the next 10days and if the replacement was going to take longer than that would they ship it to Canada?
The answer was no, they won't ship it to Canada (talking about a couple pieces of plastic you could stick in the mail for $2.00). They then proceeded to slowplay the authorisation for the replacement parts and shipped them the day I told them was my last day to receive them.
So to sum it all up I am the happy owner of one of the loudest racks on the planet that looks sketchy due to the shipping damage. A roof pack that will probably end up at the dump after one extended trip.
Not likely to be a repeat customer!
This product is exactly what I was wanting. Great overall construction, durable and meets all my requirements of a great cargo bag. Will be using it soon as we begin our travels and am hoping that it is all we are expecting it to be. After using and seeing the performance of this bag, I am thinking that an "excellent" rating would follow. Our SportRack Cargo Bag was very easy to attach to our vehicle roof and to load when on the roof. Even with the Bag loaded, it was easy to move the Bag on the roof to a desired position. There was no noise created by the loaded bag when traveling at highway speeds. additionally, our trip required a one night stay at a hotel. It was easy to take the Bag down from the roof to lock it and it's contents inside the vehicle over night, and then reattach the Bag to the roof the next morning.
Functional roof bag, but after 1500 mile trip front of bag has holes in it already no longer water resistant. Disappointed you have to wrap your things in trash bags than put them in cargo carrier to keep dry. Would recommend a roof bag made of heavier materials or reinforced in the front of bag to with stand the elements.
I am very satisfied and pleased that all of the components to connect my 2021 Chevy spark were purchased and installed through etrailer. It couldn't have been handled any better.

Item was a car top baggage carrier and it fits perfectly on our 2011 Ford Explorer. Easy to use. Plan on carrying extra beach items on vacation (chairs, floaties, coolers, etc.)
