Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Fabrication Parts - Receiver Tube - E-9 Review

Today we're going to review Part Number E-9. This is the Curt 6" combo bar with the 2" trailer hitch receiver. This does have a 2" x 2" trailer hitch receiver opening. You can see right there. This is a hitch fabrication part, it is designed to be welded on to your vehicle or trailer, and allow you to install a 2" ball mount into there. It does have an outer dimension; the outer dimension on it is 2 1/2", and the forged collar on the very opening area right here, the width on that would actually measure 3".

Total overall length from the very front to the very back is going to be right at 6". It is sized and punched to fit all common weight distribution hitch ball mounts, or utility ball mounts. Has a 5/8" diameter pin hole, and it is a raw finish. The reason they do that, it's better for welding, because there's less prep work involved. That should do it for the review on Part Number E-9. This is the Curt 6" combo bar with the 2" trailer hitch receiver. .

Arrived faster than expected and worked great for my project. I used it to make a hitch mounted hammock base and it worked perfectly. This is the second time I’ve used this product for various projects and is been great reach time.

by:

I bought two of these to make a hitch holder for the bed of my truck. This is a quality product. The bare metal was covered in plastic and had very little if any rust on it which cut prep time down prior to welding. I like the design of this product in that it includes the rounded lip on the front of the product which helps inserting hevy hitch stingers. The actual product I received has a mild steel lip on it rather than the apparent hardened steel in the product photo, but it works the same notheless. The steel welded well and I have since order an additional receiver for another project. For the price it can't be beat.

Thanks for the check in. I will continue to purchase items from eTrailer if not for any other reason than the tremendous service. The how-to videos take the trepidation out of the on-line purchase because thebuyer gets to see the product in action. There has always been quick shipping and great follow up.

by:

These seem to be well made and easy to work with. I used two of them to make custom leveler mounts on a trailer I was building. They were lightly oiled, and free of rust, making for clean welding.
There is absolutely nothing I can complain about with them. They were exactly what I was looking for, and needed no modifications to accept 2" tube and pins.

Still working well.

by:

This part worked very well for our custom risers and dual hitch extensions that hold our patented USA RV Kayak/SUP/Surfboard/Bike/Racks.

by:

Perfect for what I needed. WAY better quality than overseas imports.

by:

I have purchased numerous items from etrailer.com this year for my truck. There shipping speed is fantastic for buyers who want to move ahead with their projects as fast as possible. I especially like their connection with Curt and that they have access to Curt's unpainted steel towing parts for fabrication and welding.

by:

Exactly what I needed, it will make mounting a winch way easier.

Havent used it yet. Have been having trouble getting a correct winch plate for my super winch s7500. But it looks fabulous

by:

Exactly what I ordered, welded it to a 1/4" steel plate for a spare tire carrier. Always a pleasant experience to deal with etrailer.

People at etrailer are so nice!

by:

What would seem to be a simple item to make this hitch receiver is well made and strong. This was welded to a front plate for attachment to my garden tractor so that I could add the eTrailer off-road cargo carrier. Combination works well. When looking for a hitch receiver bypass the cheap stuff and go for the better made receiver. Still going strong nearly a year later.

by:

Great product, as advertised. Perfect for my fabrication application (dropped front hitch on a JD utility tractor for a Meyers Home Plow)

Great product, functions as advertised

by:

Just right for fabricating custom hitches Excellent fit for ball mounts and other accessories such as bike racks and luggage carriers. The plated formed collar is a nice touch.

by:

You would need to try REALLY hard to screw this one up.

The collar is not a 2nd piece that is welded on, but actually formed from then end of box tubing itself - a single piece of steel.

Covered with an anti-rust(?) coating, then packed in shrink wrap. Make sure to clean the coating off before welding.

It's made in Canada. It's not made in the USA, but better than China!

by:

This was a great item for adding a receiver tube to the box blade on my tractor. Now I can back up to trailer and pick it up with my 3-point hitch to move it where I need without leaving my seat.

by:

Great looking trailer hitch! Quality product, can't wait to weld it up. I needed it shipped to a different address, and customer service was fast and easy to get in touch with. They shipped it the same day too! If I ever need any more trailer/hitch parts, I'm coming back here; couldn't be happier with this site!

by:

Great value. This is the second I have purchased for custom hitch applications. The first I added to my JD Gator as the stock hitch is a 1 1/4. The second I used for a custom 3 pt hitch for my tractor. I could have just mounted a ball, but for the price of this, now I can utilize my existing hitches for multiple applications.

by:

As with years of previous items ordered from e-trailer, this one is of outstanding quality and exactly as described. It arrived quickly and the price was good. I always search e-trailer for needed parts as theirs are reasonably priced, arrive quickly and they have a very high percentage of the trailer related parts which I need.

Dealing with Jaimie B was great. She was vey knowledgeable and answered all my questions.

Product works outstanding. Since I upgraded the tires on our RV to commercial tires and wheels, the spare tire was to heavy for the existing hoist. I fabricated a tire carrier for the hitch on the RV and this piece works great.

by:

The Combo Bar " with 2" Trailer hitch receiver is just as described. It is very sturdy and the fit is perfect. It arrived quickly. Great product.

by:

These have changed from a previously welded on lip flange to a pressed on stronger flange construction. We manufacture multi use RV Kayak, Paddle Board, Surfboard, and bike rack included as one.

by:

Well built , quality welds and fit , this is exactly what I needed for the floor mount reciever for my enclosed trailer and the removable winch mount I've installed.

by:

My local RV dealers did not carry the short six inch tube . Yours was exactly
what I wanted to make a hitch for my lawn tractor. With a little welding and
paint; it looks like original equipment. Supper quick service!! Thanks - Marty P.

by:

The hole did not line up. So it is unusable. about 11/2 " short

It was for a new chev.250 hitch.

It sounds like you are trying to use this as a reducer in the OEM hitch on your Chevy..If thats the case, this part is meant to be used as a fabrication part in order to build a receiver hitch. Its not intended to be an adapter or a reducer sleeve. If you were needing a reducer sleeve to reduce a 2-12 inch receiver opening down to a 2 inch, Id recommend using part # BWRHXA2182.

by:

Finished well and a solid piece, it will be welded onto the front of a flat bed trailer for a portable winch mount.

by:

Ordered 2 hitch receivers for a project. They were shipped quickly and delivered a day early. Exactly what I ordered.

by:

Welding this on a custom bumper on a 71' Bronco. Great quality receiver hitch.

  • How Do Winches Normally Attach to Trailer
We don't have winch plates designed specifically for mounting winches to trailers but what a lot of people will do is attach the winch to a hitch plate like the part # C31010 and then weld a hitch tube to the trailer like with the part # E-9. This allows you to pretty easily remove the winch if ever needed as well.

  • Recommendation for a Stinger-to-Stinger Adapter
Since we do not sell a dual female sided hitch reciever, I think your best option would be to have a qualified welder weld two of the Curt Combo Bars part # E-9 to each other like you referenced. You should note that there is no tested weight capacity for this setup so you will need to be cautious and be sure to hire a qualified welder.

The Superwinch part # SW1475200 you referenced doesn't come with a mounting plate designed for attaching to an enclosed trailer floor but we can help with that. You could use a hitch tube and have it welded to the the trailer frame or crossmember near the front like part # E-9. With a piece like this welded to the frame, you could use the Winch Plate # BDW20011 mount to attach your winch. You'll need to pull up a portion of the floor to access where you'll attach it. • Brainstorming Sidewind Trailer Jack for 2 Inch Receivers On Cargo Trailer Corners For Stabilization
Interesting. We don't have that specifically, but there are a couple of routes you could go. Most trailers will use the Scissor Stabilizer Jack - 18-3/4" Travel - 2,500 lbs - Qty 1 # TJSC-24 for stability in the corners so you could mount a receiver shank to that and use # TJSC-24-HD as a sidewind crank. It sounds like you were picturing more of a trailer tongue style option, so you could use a jack like the etrailer Square Jack w/ Footplate - Drop Leg - Bolt On - Zinc - Sidewind - 29-1/8"...

  • What are the Internal Dimensions of a Curt Combo Bar Trailer Hitch Receiver Part # E-9
I went to our warehouse to pull the Curt combo bar # E-9 to provide some measurements. And yes, the Curt combo bar # E-9 will have an internal dimension of 2-inches x 2-inches and outer dimension of the shank is 2-1/2 inches x 2-1/2 inches. The forged collar is 3-inches x 3-inches. See both diagrams to the right. I also included a video for you too.

  • Combo Bar Hitch Tube Recommendation for Installing Second Hitch Opening at Rear of RV
Sounds like you are wanting to install a second hitch opening on the cross tube of your Winnebago. We offer the combo bar part # E-9 for applications like this. You would have to weld on the hitch opening to your RV and you would have a second hitch tube. We don't have a bolt on application to fit a 2-1/2 by 2-1/2 inch cross tube. You would have to use a RV approved bike rack like what is listed at the attached link.

  • Comparing Buyers Products Receiver Tube 337RT25806 and Curt Combo Bar E-9
The Buyers Products Receiver Tube # 337RT25806 and the Curt Combo Bar # E-9 are essentially identical items. Both are raw steel 2-inch receiver tubes intended for weld-on fabrication applications. Both are 6-inches long with a reinforced collar. For both the actual trailer weight capacity depends on the specific installation.

  • Weight Capacity of Curt Receiver Combo Bar # E-9
Fabrication parts like Curt Combo Bar # E-9 do not carry a weight capacity rating because that will largely depend on the nature of the installation chosen. To what you weld it and how well you weld it will determine its ultimate capacity. If installed properly it will have enough capacity for any recovery winch intended for use in a 2-inch hitch.

  • Can a Rear Mount Trailer Hitch be Used on the Front of a 1996 Nissan 4x4 Pickup Truck
I do have a solution for you but you will not be able to use a rear mount hitch on the front of a vehicle. Some trailer hitch manufacturers we carry do not give us the hitch dimensions because it is proprietary information. But I can tell you that the hitches you have listed are not going to fit at the front of your 1996 Nissan pickup. To the best of my knowledge, the trailer in our video came from the factory with the hitch receiver option. This is not something that we installed here at etrailer but I do have good news. We have a solution for adding a hitch receiver to a trailer. Take a look at the 6 Inch Combo Bar with 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver, # E-9. Just have a qualified welder weld this to your trailer and you can now mount the Superwinch S5000 and the Hitch Mounted Winch Plate with Handle, # BDW20061R2.
