4-Bike Rack for Use on Deck of 4 x 6 Utility Trailer

Question:

Im looking for a bike rack to hold 4 or more bikes in a flat bed utility trailer. I dont want anything that requires removal of any wheels. Even if you just have parts, and I can piece something together Im interested in hearing about it. I have searched and searched, and it doesnt seem like anyone makes anything specifically for a utility trailer. So far, other than DIY projects that use PVC or wood, the only thing that Ive found thats close is a truck bed mounted system but that would require higher sides on the trailer. The trailer I have is 4x6, and has 12inch high sides that can be removed.

You do have a unique bike transport requirement and I see why you came to etrailer!

You are correct that bike carriers for use on utility trailers are rare animals. Truck bed racks like the 4-bike Topline # UG2500-4 might be usable - the bike wheels stay on - if you have or can create a place to secure the mounting clamp.

Since it sounds like you are capable of some fabrication I do have a suggestion that is a little outside the box but that gives you the flexibility to choose a trailer-rated hitch-mount rack of almost any design.

A fabrication part like # E-9, which is a 2-inch receiver tube that is 6-inches long, could be mounted to your trailer deck (depending on its deck material). If there is a spot to which you can weld this tube you will have created what in effect is a hitch receiver. It might be possible to mount this in other ways but I cannot say without seeing the trailer in person.

There are so many options in 2-inch 4-bike hitch racks, shown on the linked page, that chances are you can find one that would be compatible with your particular bikes and provide a suitable fit on the trailer. The Swagman Original 4, part # S64400, is a superb value in a no-frills carrier. I own the 3-bike version and it is built to last.
