Note: This actuator is compatible with the Demco manual reverse lockout kit (DM5939). If you choose not to add the reverse lockout, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with free-backing brakes so that you can drive in reverse without the actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.

When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the hydraulic actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward, once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. When this happens, the actuator contracts, applying force to its master cylinder. This in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.

eZ-Latch Coupler

The coupler portion of this trailer brake actuator features a simple-to-use latching mechanism known as the eZ-Latch. With this mechanism, hooking up is as easy as dropping the coupler over your trailer hitch ball. The latch does not need to be tugged or manually activated to allow the ball into the coupler socket, nor does it have to be secured in place. Just make sure that the coupler is properly lined up with the ball when you lower it, and the rest is automatic.

Demco eZ-Latch in Use

Sturdy, Corrosion-Resistant Construction

Made of sturdy steel, this hydraulic trailer brake actuator features a durable zinc coating that is designed to limit rust and corrosion. This zinc coat has a 200-hour salt spray rating. In addition, the composite master cylinder is made of corrosion-resistant glass-reinforced nylon to further ensure durability.

Easy install, no issues

Hitch arrived early and looks just like the picture and description. It is an exact replacement for the original. All the parts are available to rebuild the unit as well but mine was rusted pretty badly so I would have had a lot of time refinishing everything I didn't replace. In my situation there was about a $50 difference between rebuilding old or complete new unit. If your hitch is in better shape than mine, they have an excellent selection of repair parts. I would suggest taking yours apart and as long as it's not rusted solid, they can probably supply you with parts for less than $70.

  • Replacement Surge Brake Actuator Assembly for Boat Trailer 3" Straight Bolt Pattern
The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8669112 will fit the 3" frame on your boat trailer. I have attached a picture that will show the different bolt patterns as this on will sit above the frame and not quite on the frame. The 3 hole straight that you have will have bolt holes that are 0.85" below the top of the frame while the 3 hole standard holes on the # DM8669112 are 1.5" below the top of the frame rail. I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Manual Lockout # DM8760011....

  • Recommended Drop Coupler Replacement for UFP A-75 Surge Brake Actuator
It sounds like you need a drop coupler on the trailer like the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator part # DM8669112. The built-in drop will help with coupling on smaller vehicles. It is designed for drum brakes, has a 2" coupler, and 8,000 lb weight capacity.

  • Can Electric Lockout be Added to Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop For Drum Brakes
Hi there Rich; while it doesn't come with one, there is a way to add an electric lockout to the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop - Drum # DM8669112. All you need to do is add the Reverse Lockout Solenoid for Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuators - Non-Bypass # DM11993.

  • Replacement Brake Actuating Coupler for Upgrade to Disc Brakes
The bolt hole dimensions of the Demco Brake Actuator # DM8669112 are 12-1/2 inches on center and 3 inches on center. I've attached a photo to assist. The Titan # T4747220 has mounting holes that are 3 inch on center so 2 of the 3 holes will align with your current coupler. Instead of changing out your entire coupler, you may want to simply change out your master cylinder on your Demco Actuator using the Replacement Master Cylinder for Demco Actuators - Disc Brakes # 5672. This will...

  • Solution for lowering a pontoon trailer's coupler that sits too high for Jeep Grand Cherokee
The only replacement for your Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX33FR that has drop would be the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop 2" Ball - 8,000 lbs # DM8669112. This offers 4" of drop and is still compatible with a 2" ball and drum brakes, just as your current Dexter actuator is. It looks like your 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee receiver should sit about 19" from the ground, so 4" of drop may allow the trailer to sit level (measure to verify). If 4" is not enough drop or if you plan...

  • Recommended Replacement Coupler for Atwood 83000 Surge Brake Actuator Coupler
The Atwood 83000 was a 8,000 lb drum brake actuator for a 2 inch hitch ball that has been discontinued. For a replacement I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop - Drum - Zinc - 2" Ball - 8,000 lbs # DM8669112. The only other option for that 8,000 lb capacity is a channel mount like the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator - Drum - Zinc - 8" Adjustable Channel Down - 8,000 lbs # DM8759131 which will allow you to use a coupler like the Demco Trailer Coupler - Adjustable Channel...

  • How to Bleed Brakes with Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator
I have attached an image from the operation manual for the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8669112 that details how to bleed the brakes. The process consists of first elevating the trailer tongue about 4 to 6 inches and then loosening or removing the two 5/16" bolts that hold the lever guide and emergency lever spring and removing the master cylinder fill cap. You will want to use short strokes to pull the emergency lever forward, pumping the master cylinder until the brake fluid in...

  • How to Determine the Correct Replacement Brake Assembly Size for a 6,000-lb Axle
You can determine what the correct replacement brake assembly is by measuring the diameter of the brake assembly. This is measured from one brake pad directly across to the other brake pad. This is demonstrated at the 2:05 mark of the attached review video for our Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-7-SA that should be what you are needing for your application. This kit measures 12" x 2" and is compatible with 5.2K to 7K axles. This kit also comes with both the right and left hand assemblies. If...

  • Replacement Demco DA91 Surge Brake Actuator For a Atwood 83000 Drum Brake Actuator
The drop on the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM8669112 is only moving he coupler lower so you will not need as large of a rise on the tow vehicle. The Atwood 83000 is a weld-on coupler that fits a 3" straight trailer tongue and is rated for 8,000 lbs. If you truly need the 8,000 lb capacity then I recommend the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop # DM8669112. However, this does have a 4" drop. If a 7,000 lb gross towing weight works for your application then the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM72VR would be a better choice. • Replacement Surge Brake Coupler for Boat Trailer
The coupler you are seeking is a surge brake coupler. You may not have the same look as your previous coupler as styles can change, but you need to make sure you have the correct capacity rating for your trailer and the correct coupler as drum brakes and disc brakes have different psi ratings. You will also need to determine if you need a manual lockout, electric (reverse light circuit) lockout, or no lockout. Because you already have stated it is a 2 inch ball, I've linked the pages...

  • Adding Manual Lockout to Surge Brake Actuator
The reason there are different actuators for disc brakes and drum brakes is the psi the brakes operate at. Disc brakes operate at a higher psi than drum brakes and either too much or too little pressure can cause damage to the brakes. There are units that can have manual reverse lockouts installed but not all.
