Solution for lowering a pontoon trailer's coupler that sits too high for Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

Product DX33FR. I currently have a UFP A-75 surge brake actuator on an ez loader EZP 20-22 aluminum pontoon trailer. The surge brake actuator mounts to the top of the tongue on the trailer which makes the coupler very high probably around 24 to tow the boat level. My lifted truck has no problem towing level but i now want to tow with a grand cherokee and would need a very aggressive lift hitch. Is there a replacement actuator that would mount in the tongue so that i dont need such a high lift hitch? If not what is your best recommendation for a lift hitch? the boat and trailer is about 2700 pounds. Thank you

The only replacement for your Dexter DX7.5L A-60 Brake Actuator # DX33FR that has drop would be the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w/ Drop 2" Ball - 8,000 lbs # DM8669112. This offers 4" of drop and is still compatible with a 2" ball and drum brakes, just as your current Dexter actuator is.

It looks like your 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee receiver should sit about 19" from the ground, so 4" of drop may allow the trailer to sit level (measure to verify). If 4" is not enough drop or if you plan to switch back to towing with your lifted truck at some point in the future, then I would instead go with an adjustable ball mount to compensate for the difference in height. For this, I would go with the Gen-Y Rebel Ball Mount # GY92FR. This offers up to 5" of rise and up to 6-1/2" of drop which should be plenty for your application. This is a much easier and better solution than replacing the trailer coupler. I attached a demonstration video for you to check out.
