Today we'll be having a look at the Demco latch repair kit for Demco eZ-Latch channel tongue trailer Couplers with a two and five-sixteenth inch ball, part number DM5817. This latch repair kit is a cost effective and easy solution to replace your worn out or damaged Coupler versus having to weld on an entire new assembly to your trailer. It'll save you time and money, and get you back on the road quickly. Here's what our Coupler repair kit comes with. We have our new latch mechanism to release our ball, our ball catch here, our plastic bushing, our spring, our pull pin, and then a roll pin, which holds it all together. Tools that we'll need to repair this Coupler, hammer, punch, pair of pliers. We'll take our Coupler here, unlatch it, and we'll drive out our roll pin. With our roll pin removed, take our punch out, take our handle off.
We'll grab ahold of our pin assembly with the pliers, and we'll unscrew it. Once we have it loose enough, it'll just unscrew by hand. Pull it out, and then our ball catch will come out and make sure we pay attention to the orientation. The flat side faces the top of the Coupler. We had our spacer here underneath, just like that.
Then our spring. Now that we have our Coupler all taken apart, you see it's just a bare Coupler inside. We're replacing all the moving pieces. We'll take our block here, flat side, we'll thread our rod in all the way. We'll take our black piece here, make sure it goes in the hole marked 2.313, which is the decimal equivalent of two and five-sixteenths. Take our spring, go through there.
We want to have this pointed part facing where the ball rests, and we'll install it into our Coupler. Push it through just like so. Make sure everything's lined up. Now we'll take our handle assembly here, make sure it's pushed up like this, and we'll get a roll pin started. Now that we have our pin pushed in all the way, we can lower down our latch. You see it latches down in place, nice and spring loaded.
When we pull back on the handle, you can see how the ball catch pulls away from the ball to release it, and when we close it, grabs down around it, and it'll grab onto our ball and couple our trailer to our tow vehicle. I had to use my ball clamp and clamp bolt with the new latch and spring to make it work.
