Dimensions

Stacked-plate heat exchangers have long been considered the most effective type of oil or transmission coolers, primarily because of their increased surface area. Allowing fluid to spread out over this larger surface area decreases the time required for heat transfer to take place. As a result, plate coolers typically manage to cool a greater volume of fluid faster than tube-and-fin, or even plate-and-fin, varieties. Add to that a powerful tornado fan that ensures optimum airflow at all times, no matter the environment, and you have a super-efficient heat exchange unit.

Awesome product! Received it yesterday. Custom fabricated brackets for it to mount below my auxiliary trans cooler on my 07 fx4 f150. Installed the on off switch on out side of transmission and the fan works great!

Awesome remote transmission oil cooler. Attached at the rear under belly of a Toyota FJ Cruiser, 2007.

by:
2010 Toyota Highlander

excellent quality product, I have intalled the fan/cooler on a toyota highlander 2010 without tow package not infront of the a/c radiator but exactly at the same place as toyota install the oem transmission cooler just behind the right fog light. I have a travel trailer of 3300 lbs dry, (4000lbs gross weight) and before my transmission temperature was around 215-220 F with a standard transmission cooler(without a fan) infront of the a/c radiator, but now with my new derale fan cooler, its around 180F after a long climb. I am totally satisfied. I had to build a bracket to fit the cooler in this tiny space behind the fog light, it took me 6-7 hours .

by:

Mounted between fuel tank and transfer case. Larger 6.0 cooler would go in front of intercooler. Dont need anymore heat there. This was cheaper and works great in this position. Wrapped exhaust near the lines as they have to dump out on right side of trans. and I did not want any hard 90 degree turns with all this extra plumbing. Keeps temps way lower. Also installed oversize/cooler pan.
FYI using temp sensors in pan and in valve body. Pan is regularly 30 degrees cooler than valve body.

Easy install, and works as specified. Would put on future high performance vehicles

Have not installed it yet, but looks impressive! This this is like a beast cooler. Will be installing it this week before a long distance rv trip.

Nice product

Great product and prices really awesome service

by:

I was very impressed on quality and ruggedness. Its heavy and works great. This is a must in South Texas especially pulling a trail.

by:

Love my engine oil cooler. I was having overheating problems with my Dodge truck while towing on a hot day. I asked the guys at etrailer if I should add a bigger radiator, and engine oil cooler or another tranny cooler. They nailed it when they recommended a supplemental engine oil cooler. I now can town my fifth wheel RV trailer on the hottest days and in the mountains without overheating. I do still have to watch the temps and if they start to get over 260 f or so I downshift a gear or two to get greater fluid flows. The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is that with the supplied hose clamps I was plagued with constant slow leaks. I finally bought a much higher end hose Clamp which did solve the problem.

by:

I was surprised at the lack of feedback on these products, and the differences in opinions. I tow a fare amount, between 7000lbs and 9500lbs. My vehicle is a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 8 speed transmission. ( outside temperature 20-30 deg Celsius ). Before I installed this engine cooler my temperature ran around 115 deg Celsius on a flat pull and 130 - 135 deg Celsius on most hills. After a hill it took a long time to drop in temperature, most time it hardly dropped. Now I rarely see 115 deg Celsius on a hill, and recovers to 100 deg Celsius very quickly. So in short I'm very happy with this product. I would recommend it to anyone that Tows.

by:

Excellent product, quality parts and fittings for multiple installation platforms. Took about 4 hours to install but was a custom install under bed of truck.

by:

Appears to be well-built and wasn't too hard to plumb in series with the existing oil cooler. Unfortunately with my 2010 Suburban it did not make any difference in the oil sump temperature shown by the computer - either daily driving or while towing. I plan on borrowing a laser thermometer to see what the actual input/output temps are.

by:

Great product. Keeps transmission oil cool. Happy with my purchase

by:

Arrived today. need to find time to install. Looks great. box was untaped but I think everything is here. It looks like a quality product. Excellent so far!

by:

Easy install very high quality product.

  • Transmission Cooler Options for a 1996 Ford F-250 with 7.3 Liter Diesel Engine
We currently have 6 transmission coolers that are recommended for your 1996 Ford F-250 with 7.3 liter diesel engine. I have included a link to them below. Even though the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit with Fan, -6 AN Inlets - Class V, # D13960, is not on that list, transmission coolers are not technically vehicle specific, so you could install it on your truck with the proper sized fittings. The D13960 comes with -6 AN x 3/8 inch hose barb adapter and one of the recommended...

  • Selecting Installation Location for Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler D13960
Since transmission coolers are not vehicle-specific you'll want to compare the dimensions of the Derale Hyper-Cool # D13960 (13- wide x 10- tall x 5-5/8-inches deep) to the available mounting locations in your engine compartment. Flexibility in mounting point is one of the advantages of a fan-powered cooler. Since they don't rely on passive air flow for cooling they'll work effectively almost anywhere you can fit one. Coolers like this Derale Hyper-Cool are intended to supplement the OEM...

  • Can a Transmission Cooler be Used to Bypass the Radiator on a 32ft Motor Home
I verified with my contact at Derale that the Derale Hyper-Cool Transmission Cooler, # D15960, will work to bypass your radiator and cool your transmission fluid. One important thing to consider when installing a transmission cooler is the size of your transmission lines. If the diameter of your transmission lines are 1/2 inch in diameter, then you will want to go with the transmission cooler that you referenced. If your transmission lines are 3/8 inch in diameter, then you will want the...

  • Can the Factory Transmission Cooler on a 2005 Chevy Silverado 2500HD be Replaced with Remote Cooler
It would be best to use a transmission cooler as a supplemental cooler to the factory transmission cooler. But if you have to bypass the factory cooler you will need to plug the input/output outlets at the radiator and use a remote cooler such as # D13960. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you.

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler with a Fan for 2007 Nissan Frontier
Our most popular transmission cooler with a fan is the Derale Hyper-Cool # D13960. This is a stacked-plate cooler which is the most efficient style available. It also uses a 500-CFM fan for airflow. You can mount it anywhere you have room in your engine compartment since there's no need for airflow. It's most common not to replace your factory cooler but to add an additional supplement cooler.

  • Recommended Transmission Cooler with Fan for 2012 Chevy Suburban
I spoke with my contact at Derale and he said that your 2012 model Chevy Suburban 1500 uses 1/2 inch transmission lines so the Derale Hyper-Cool Transmission Cooler # D13960 won't be the best option. For your Suburban you will instead want the Derale Hyper-Cool # D15960 which is essentially the same cooler with fan but designed to work with the 1/2 inch lines. An adapter isn't needed as the compression fitting that comes included with this cooler should work perfectly. A transmission...

We can help you with a supplementary transmission cooler for your 2009 Nissan Armada SE 2WD to reduce its operating temperature when you tow your new Forest River travel trailer. For a standard passive cooler that mounts in front of your AC condenser I suggest the Derale Class III model # D13503. This will provide significant additional cooling of your transmission fluid. For a higher-capacity passive option the Class IV model # D13613 is a good choice. If you happen to often tow in the...

  • Remote Mount Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a 2008 Dodge Ram Cummins
For as big of a truck as you have I would go with the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Mount Transmission Cooler part # D13960. This is Class V stacked plate cooler (the most efficient style of cooler) with a fan that can flow 500 cfm of airflow that would do very well. This kit also includes all of the necessary rubber lines and hoses to install on your vehicle. I attached a couple FAQ articles on transmission coolers for you to check out as well.

  • Transmission Cooler For 2014 Nissan Titan
Cooler failure is VERY expensive! That's why I recommend getting a Class V cooler like # D13960. The fan will make sure that the cooler is getting plenty of air flow even if your not moving or hardly at all.

  • Rerouting Transmission Fluid from the Factory Radiator 2007 Nissan Pathfinder
I do have a solution that will allow you to cool your 2007 Nissan Pathfinder's transmission fluid without running the risk of coolant leaking inside the transmission but unfortunately, the radiator will need to be replaced no matter which route you go. This is a fairly common problem on certain vehicles and can cause further harm to both the vehicle and transmission if not corrected. • Can Two 40 Row Derale Transmission Coolers be Used in Place of a Factory Cooler
Yes! You can use 2 of the Derale 40-row coolers # D54008 to cool the transmission fluid on your prostreet car. The stacked plate design is the most efficient at cooling. To optimize cooling make sure the coolers are mounted where they can get the most air flow (right behind the grille). I also recommend a couple of mount kit # D50020 and some hose. • Transmission Cooler Recommendation for a Street Rod with Limited Air Flow and Space
Since you plan to install a transmission cooler in an area that won't get direct air flow you will want one with a fan. Since you said space is a premium you would want a smaller one. The Derale part # D13960 would be a great option as long as you have the room for it. It measures 13" wide x 10" tall x 5-5/8" deep. This stacked plate cooler is incredibly efficient and would work well as it has a fan that can flow 500 cfm.

This high-efficiency stacked-plate cooler kit includes the cooler, fittings, hose and all hardware required for installation. • Tip for Where to Mount Derale Remote Transmission Cooler 2004 Ford Explorer
We don't have any pictures or videos we can show you to help put the Derale transmission cooler part # D13960 in your vehicle but the great thing about this kit is that since it comes with a fan you don't have to put it somewhere that gets access to air flow. If there's a tighter area that it could fit it would work fine there since it provides it's own air flow.

  • Can a Transmission Cooler be Used to Bypass the Factory Cooler on a 2007 Hummer H3
It is usually the other way around with factory transmissions coolers in radiators. By that I mean that normally you see a problem with the factory coolers, not the aftermarket replacements. It is possible to bypass the factory cooler in the radiator by blocking off the input/output locations for the transmission cooler on the radiator. You would then need to mount the largest possible cooler that you can get to fit or install a remote cooler with its own fan. The Series 9000 Plate-Fin...
