Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.

While this assembly is intended for primary cooling and should, therefore, provide enough CFM to replace your vehicle's factory fan, you will still need to determine the CFM requirements for your engine before making your purchase. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.

Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16778 and D16779.

  • How To Tell If Derale High Output Fans D16928 Fit 1975 Chevrolet Caprice
We do not have a database that tells us the size of the radiator and clearance behind it on your 1975 Chevrolet Caprice, so you'll need to take some measurements to see if you can fit the Derale High Output Fans # D16928. The # D16928 measures 28-5/8" wide x 13-7/8" tall x 3-1/4" deep, so as long as you have this much space or more you'll have no problems. If you find you have less space let me know and I can recommend a smaller option, or you can view our other fan options with the link...

  • 4,000 CFM Fan Kit Recommendation for 1974 Chevy Corvette with 502 Cubic Inch Big Block
The shallowest fan setup we have that can move 4,000 CFM of air would be the Derale High Output Fan and Shroud part # D16928 as it measures only 3-1/4 inches deep. Height and width though are 28-5/8 inchs and 13-7/8 inches. If you need a smaller height and width but can get by with a slightly deeper setup we have the Derale part # D16826 as well. This measures 25-5/8 inche wide x 17-1/8 inches tall x 4 inches deep. Having either fan setup as a puller instead of a pusher will get you...

I recommend the Derale High-Output, Electric Radiator Fan-and-Shroud Assembly part # D16928. The overall dimensions of the fan assembly are 28-5/8" wide x 13-7/8" tall x 3-1/4" deep. The fan assembly will take...
