When fluid temperatures exceed 180 degrees, the thermostat's interior valve closes so that 95 percent of the oil will be directed to the cooler. When the temperature falls below 180 degrees, however, the valve opens, allowing 90 percent of the oil to bypass the cooler and head back into either your engine or transmission. Preventing that fluid from entering the cooler will help to raise its temperature faster so your vehicle will be ready to go sooner - no more long waits, no more cold-oil shock. When valve is in bypass mode, 10 percent of the oil is still allowed through to the cooler to maintain constant system pressure.

  • Will The Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler Part # D15902 Fit My 2011 Tacoma
Transmission and engine coolers are universal in that the manufacturers do not test the fitment and performance on individual vehicles. To ensure a proper fitment on your 2011 Toyota Tacoma, you will need to measure the amount of space you have in front of the radiator/condenser free of obstructions. The current cooler you have selected in the Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler part # D15902 has dimensions of 17" wide x 12-1/2" tall x 3/4" deep. We have not had a chance...

  • Installation of Transmission Cooler and Thermostat on 2013 Toyota Sienna XLE 3.5L V6
Derale Fluid Control Thermostat Kit w/ 3/8" NPT Ports # D13011 and the Transmission cooler # D13503 will work well on your 2013 Sienna. The thermostat is your fail safe, so I recommend putting it between your transmission and the secondary cooler. The thermostat will allow full oil flow whether the valve is open or closed so your transmission will get what it needs at all times and there won't be any pressurizing of hoses. The Mounting Bracket Kit for Derale Fluid Control Thermostats...

  • Thermostat To Use with the Transmission Cooler Portion of the D15902
The thermostat unit to use with the # D15902 that you have planned on installing is the part # D13011. If you check out the install video I attached you will see both of these products being installed on a similar Toyota vehicle. The difference is the diameter of the threaded portion of the barbs and not the actual barb itself that the hose attaches to.

  • Can Transmission Fluid be Overcooled on a Chevy Silverado 1500HD
Transmission fluid cannot be overcooled. But what can happen is that in cold temperatures it takes longer for it to warm up. All you would need to add is a cooler thermostat, # D13011, which will bypass the cooler until the temperature of the fluid gets above 180 degrees.

  • Recommended Transmission and Oil Cooler Combo For a 2013 Ram 1500
The Derale Combination Transmission and Engine Oil Cooler with Multiple Threads, # D15902, will work well for your 2013 Ram 1500. If you live in a colder climate, you may want to use the Derale Fluid Control Thermostat Kit w/ 3/8" NPT Ports, # D13011, which will allow 90% of the oil to heat faster and warm your motor and cab faster until you hit the 180 degree threshold where it sends everything to the cooler. Another option for you would be the Derale Electra-Cool Combo Engine and Transmission...

  • Transmission Cooler and Thermostat for a 2011 Subaru Forester
Transmission fluid cannot be overcooled. But in the winter when the weather is cold you would either need to let your 2011 Subaru Forester warm up a little longer or you can install a thermostat with the cooler so that it will only send fluid through the cooler once the temperature is high enough. You can use Derale Fluid Control Thermostat Kit w/ 3/8" NPT Ports Item # D13011 with mounting bracket kit # D25793. The fluid will bypass a cooler, such as # D12906, if the fluid temperature...

  • Bypassing the Factory Radiator Transmission Cooler 2008 Acura MDX
The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets part # D13503 is an excellent supplemental transmission cooler. However, I would not use this cooler as the sole source of cooling your 2008 Acura MDX's transmission fluid. This transmission cooler is designed for supplemental use meaning, it is more or less to aide the factory transmission cooler (radiator) not replace. This transmission cooler is really not capable of being responsible for the sole source of cooling...

  • Installing Fluid Control Thermostat Kit With Derale 8000 Transmission Cooler For Cold Climates
Yes you are exactly right, in very cold climates it is possible to damage your transmission if the fluid is not reaching the correct temperature. I recommend adding the Derale Fluid Control Thermostat Kit w/ 3/8" NPT Ports # D13011 in between the transmission and the aftermarket Derale 8000 Cooler # D13503. This will then allow the transmission fluid to heat up faster since this thermostat will restrict oil flow or allow oil flow depending on the temperature. You will also want to grab...

  • Recommended Towing System Components Including Transmission and Oil Cooler for 2016 Ford Explorer
For your 2016 Ford Explorer XLT, I recommend you start with the hitch, wiring, and ball mount. For a hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite # 76034. For your trailer wiring, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118540. It sounds like you will be towing heavier trailers, so I also recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 and brake controller # 90195. Then for a ball mount I recommend the Curt Channel Style Adjustable...

  • Do Derale Transmission Coolers have Thermostats
The transmission cooler # D13504 by itself will allow fluid to flow through it all the time, it does not have a thermostat to allow fluid to only flow through it at certain temperatures. What you can do is add the Fluid Control Thermostat Kit, # D13011. This will only allow fluid to flow to the cooler once the fluid temperature reaches 180 degrees. You will also need mounting bracket # D25793.

  • Will the Derale 16-Pass Electra-Cool Remote Cooler Part # D15800 Fit a 2010 GMC Yukon XL
The Derale 16-Pass Electra-Cool Remote Cooler Assembly w/ Fan part # D15800 will physically fit on your 2010 GMC Yukon XL as long as you have 5-3/4" wide x 11-1/2 " tall x 5" deep of space to mount the cooler anywhere on the vehicle but the -8 AN x 1/2" diameter hose barb adapter fitting included in the kit will be overkill and will also not match up with the factory 3/8" diameter transmission fluid lines. According to Derale, your Yukon has 3/8" diameter transmission lines therefore,...

  • Thermostat Bypass for Use with a Derale Transmission Cooler
I recommend Derale thermostat # D13011 with mounting bracket # D25793, and extra hose # D15799 when installing the Derale transmission cooler # D13503. The thermostat comes with the threaded ports and hose clamps so you will not need those separately. The thermostat will allow 90 percent of the fluid to bypass the supplemental cooler until the fluid temperature reaches 180 degrees. So if you live in a cold climate and don't want to wait as long for the vehicle to warm up this thermostat...

  • Micron Rating of Derale Filter 13092 and Fluid Control Thermostat Kit for Transmission Cooler
I spoke with my contact at Derale and on the Replacement Filter # D13092 it has a micron rating of 21. He stated that you do not want to go more fine than that because it can strip out the abrasives in the transmission fluid that are needed for proper operation of the transmission. We carry different Derale thermostat kits that basically work the same way the thermostat does in a vehicle. There is no need for this for a supplemental transmission cooler unless you live in a cool climate...

For your 2011 Honda Odyssey, the transmission cooler I recommend is the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit w/Barb Inlets - Class III - Efficient # D13503. This is a plate-fin cooler with furnace-brazed aluminum construction and 3/4 inch wide turbulator plates for more efficient cooling. In most cases, it's not required to add a bypass to a transmission cooler like the Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit part # D13503. The transmission cannot be overcooled but it will simply take longer for the fluid to get up to operating temperature is all. If you live in climates with extreme winters up north like Canada and Alaska then you will want to consider the Derale Fluid Control Thermostat Kit w/ 3/8" NPT Ports part # D13011 but for all other instances one will...

Derale Snap-In Radiator Adapter Fitting # D13035 is recommended when installing a transmission cooler on the 2010 Chevy Tahoe. I have linked a video featuring this fitting for you. In addition to the fitting and the core, # D52508, you will also need a bracket kit # D50020 to mount the cooler, hose clamps, # D13008, and about 10 feet of hose, # D15700.
