Video Transcript for Curt Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve Review

Brad Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Curt Reducer Sleeve that's gonna take our receiver tube opening from a two and a half in to a two inch. So, if you have that two inch ball mount and you've upgraded to a heavier dutier truck and or maybe you just have a couple trucks in your fleet no worries. You're not going go have to buy a whole separate ball mount. You can go ahead, put that sleeve in place and be able to put your two inch ball, no problem. I really like that I can from my pickup with a two inch receiver to my diesel with a two and a half inch without having to get any additional equipment. Now it also has two notches on here which makes it nice and easy.

That way when you slide this in you can't push it too far. It's not gonna get stuck in there, you're always gonna have a little edge here to be able to pull that out if you do need to go back to that two and a half. Now what's also nice is you're not gonna need a special pin and clip. You'll just be able to slide this through. You'll align your holes and then your normal pin and clip will go through, holding that all in place.

Now you can see that our ball mount has seen better days as it's starting to rust but the great part about this being steel construction with that black powder coat finish, that's gonna hold up against that rust and corrosion so you're not gonna see that transferring over for a long time. And that was a look at the Curt Reducer Sleeve, going from a two and a half inch to a two inch..

Excellent product, very sturdy. We have been using them on our trailers for years.

by:

This hitch worked well on my Kona electric. Etrailer provides outstanding service. Will definitely purchase from this quality company again.

by:

Had exactly what I wanted in a hitch and the adapter. Fast delivery. Highly recommend

by:

Sliped this adapter right in my Class V Hitch works great. I'm using it with A Curtis adj hitch and locking pins. I'm towing a 24ft 10k cargo trailer with it.

by:

Perfect fit, just what I needed, always fast shipping and great customer service from etrailer.com

by:

Good fit and helped greatly with mounting a Thule bike rack.

by:

Very thick and strong.

by:

Fits perfectly in my 2.5 inch F-350 receiver. Minimal movement with a solid feel to ensure my Airstream 2 inch Equalizer hitch set-up can perform as designed.

by:

Works great. I have 2.5" hitch on Pick up truck, while my smaller SUV is a 2". This will be handy with bike rack!

by:

Stops line it up perfectly in my 2012 GMC 2500 hitch. Only thing I don’t like is it fits a bit loose and it rattles some

by:

Slides in a little too far, not a real problem. The fit is somewhat sloppy... would like it to fit more snug.

by:

The hitch adapter works well, however I can't insert it all the way or the pin holes don't line up. This makes it difficult to put the hitch in and having to line up all 3 holes at once.

by:

My recommendation for this product would be to make it longer to distribute the load along the entire length of inside hitch receiver. Also to get rid of the tabs on the front because I had to cut them off to be able to slide my hitch in far enough to line up the pin holes.

David

Dont use it. Worthless as far as Im concerned.

by:

Does what is supposed to do. Seems solid and have had no issues. Use it to pull trailers ranging from 3,500lb to 10,000lb. Have not noticed any slop or movement beyond what I had with the stock 2" receiver. The only thing that is not great is that when pushed in all the way to the stop tabs the pin hole is past the pin hole of my receiver so you have to line up three sets of holes rather than just two.

by:

Works well with my trailer hotch on my nee truck

by:

Not much to say. It's a hitch sleeve. Does what you would expect. I do like the little nubs on the end that keep the sleeve from sliding into the hitch too far.

Elliott L.

Same as before. Not much to say. Its been great.

by:

Justin did an excellent job expediting my order and my order is exactly what I needed. Thanks Justin!

by:

So far so good. Got this due to our new f250 having the big hitch. Feels solid & time will tell when we hauls a 26ft trailer with it.

Jeff

2/21/2020

Working great. However due to trailer & a new f250 we had to get a whole new assembly. Oh well for the short amount of time we used it, it worked great. Price was great too.

by:

the receiver reducer did not fit my truck, the holes for the locking pin did not align. Your site said it fit my truck but it didn’t.

Sorry to hear that. This is a universal item that converts a 2.5 inch receiver to a 2 inch. Here are the specs to see if it fits: Dimensions: 5.5 inch long x 2.5 inch wide Pin hole diameter: 5 eighths inch

by:

Fits like a glove!!

by:

Item fit as needed with little play. Totally necessary to retro fit my old receivers for lighter applications.

by:

This sleeve adaptor is perfect. My kids bought me a 2" NFL hitch cover for Christmas, even though my hitch receiver was 2-1/2" I figured I could always use a smaller receiver adaptor for another trailer that I have. Wouldn't have bought it otherwise, but it is a good fit and I may be able to use it for towing in the future (and my "gifted" hitch cover is installed).

by:

Product arrived in a damaged box and had some scratches in various places. Packaging could have probably been more robust.
Other than that, the installation was quick and straightforward. Unless you regularly bench about 100 pounds, you'll need some assistance. Have yet to tow with it, but it should work just fine. Much better than the stock hitch that failed which prompted the replacement. 03 GMC Sierra 3500 CC Long bed, Dually, 6.6L.

quality products great prices

etrailer.com has become my favorite shopping website when I need something for my truck or travel trailer. I now check etrailer BEFORE amazon. They always have what I'm looking for at a great price and the delivery times are really not too bad. I'm spoiled by 2 day shipping but I've come to appreciate the quality of the products here. Having an RV specific website makes finding just the right part a lot easier. Oh and the adapter for the hitch receiver on my 2020 Ford F-250 fits perfectly. I was afraid the spare tire was so close to the back of the receiver that the shank might be too long, but nope, it's perfect.

  • Can I Use a 2-1/2" to 2" Hitch Reducer on the Hollywood Racks RV Rider # HLY64FR?
Great question! I went ahead and reached out to my tech at Hollywood Racks, and he confirmed that using a 2-1/2" to 2" hitch adapter is completely fine to use with the RV Rider # HLY64FR. If you need a hitch reducer for your 2-1/2" hitch, I recommend using the Curt Hitch Reducer # C45405. This adapter does not add an extension and comes with a 5/8" pin hole diameter. This reducer does not decrease the weight rating of your hitch.

Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ90-02-4900 fits into a 2-1/2-inch hitch like # C15801, so it is not a good choice for use with the Pro Series weight distribution system # PS49582. If you want to use this 2-inch system in a 2-1/2-inch hitch you can add a reducer sleeve # C45405 to drop the receiver opening size down to 2-inches.

First of all thank you for your business! It is normal for the Curt Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve - 2-1/2" to 2" # C45405 you purchased to have slight up and down play, and is not a cause for concern. Rise/Drop shanks like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ94FR are measured from the top of the receiver opening and shank; this shank is 12" and provides a maximum of 13" of rise or 9" of drop when measured from the top of the hitch receiver. This is also the longest shank we currently have available for a 2-1/2" hitch, but you could use the Curt Weight Distribution Shank - 12" Long - 15-3/4" or 16-1/4" Drop - 1,500 lbs TW # C17125 with a sleeve reducer like the # C45405 to make...

In order to accommodate the 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver you will need the Locking, Anti-Rattle, Threaded Hitch Pin # S64029 or the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable # S64031. For a hitch reducer you can use # C45405.

  • Recommended Weight Distribution and Sway Control for a 2011 Ford F-250 Towing a Keystone Trailer
Yes, you could certainly add a weight distribution system and sway control to improve your towing performance, but the systems we offer for 2-1/2 inch trailer hitches are going to be a bit too heavy duty for your particular trailer. The 2-1/2 hitch systems would be compatible for tongue weights up to 1700lbs, but your trailer, even with a maximum load, should only have around 975 or 1000lbs of tongue weight. In this case, I would typically recommend a system rated for tongue weights up...

Since we do not offer # EQ90-02-4600 for a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" receiver you're left with one of two options: -You can use either a reducer sleeve # C45405 with # EQ90-02-4600, which will reduce your 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" receiver to a 2" x 2" receiver so you can use # EQ90-02-4600.
