How Are Weight Distribution Shanks Measured
Question:
Hello I have a Equalizer setup but have a new truck. When I flip the shank upside down lower and reassemble, its still not quite low enough. In the bottom set of holes, the hitch ball top is roughly even with the top of the receiver opening. I need at least 2-3 inches lower, but not sure how to measure the quoted , is it the length of the shank, or the lowest possible location of the ball? The shank I have now is almost 10inch from top to bottom but in its lowest its still even with the receiver. BTW I need this for a 2 1/2inch receiver.

Rise/Drop shanks like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ94FR are measured from the top of the receiver opening and shank; this shank is 12" and provides a maximum of 13" of rise or 9" of drop when measured from the top of the hitch receiver. This is also the longest shank we currently have available for a 2-1/2" hitch, but you could use the Curt Weight Distribution Shank - 12" Long - 15-3/4" or 16-1/4" Drop - 1,500 lbs TW # C17125 with a sleeve reducer like the # C45405 to make this work. This setup would give you the extra drop you need to keep your trailer level while using the weight distribution hitch.
