Video Transcript for Curt OEM 5th Wheel Hitch Legs Review

Conner: Hey everybody. Conner here today at etrailer.com. We're going to be going over and showing you how to install the Curt OEM 5th Wheel Hitch Legs for Chevy and GMC Towing Prep Packages. So these particular legs here work with a variety of Curt 5th Wheel Hitch Heads. It's going to allow you to reuse your hitch head and middle section without having to purchase an entire new hitch. You'll simply just bolt the new hitch head and base onto these legs, and then it'll drop right into the factory prep package. So keep in mind, our legs here have a 25,000 pound weight capacity, but if the head you're attaching to this has a lower weight capacity, you'll need to abide by that rating. So now let's go ahead and show you how to attach these legs to one of these Curt 5th Wheel Hitch Heads. So the first step of our installation here, we want to get our fifth wheel legs out of our packaging.

We're going to set these up on our truck bed like we're going to install them. Now there's one thing we need to make note of, over here on this rail here, we're going to see a red sticker, which advises us to remove this and place our operating instructions here, which is another sticker that comes with our legs.We want this to be on the driver's side of the vehicle, but we're going to go ahead and roughly place these legs into position. The next thing we're going to do, we're going to come over to the side here of one of our legs, either one, it doesn't matter. We're going to go ahead and open up this linch pin like so, so we can pull it out, and then we can go ahead and rotate the handles outward. We're going to do that on both sides here, as well as the other side of our legs.So now once we have both of our legs into position here, we're going to go ahead and get our hitch head assembly here with the base in the hitch head, get this in the truck bed, because what we're going to do is we're going to notice that there's going to be three different sets of adjustment holes on the side plate of this base here. So, basically what these are for is, it's going to allow us to adjust the hitch head height settings, so we can get the correct settings, so we can tow our trailer level.

Now, before you decide on one, you're going to need to take some measurements beforehand of your truck and trailer. If you're not sure how to measure this, there's going to be some detailed instructions in the manual that comes with the hitch head here. So I definitely recommend looking those over before you decide on which set of holes to use.For demonstration purposes, we're simply going to be using the middle set here, but let's go ahead and get the hitch head assembly into position here. We're going to prop it up on a block of wood so we can install the legs on either side. So, now we're going to go ahead and get our hardware ready. We're going to take our hex bolt here, hold it by a split lock washer and then a flat washer.

Once we have that together, we can go ahead and attach the legs here to the base. Now, if we take a look, we're going to see two sets of holes. Two sets of holes on either side of the legs and then two sets of holes on either side of the base. We need to make sure that we're using the outside holes. Now, again, there's a couple there adjustments here, we're just going to be using the center one as our guide. So we're going to come through the backside here, we're going to stick our bolt through, then we'll try to position the legs so we can thread it into place. So, once we have both of our bolts started here, we're going to come back with a 21 millimeter socket.

We're going to go ahead and tighten those bolts down. So, we have a little bit more success with a 21 millimeter wrench here to tighten those two bolts down. But once we get them snugged up, we'll simply repeat that same process on the other side. So, now that we have both of the legs secured to our base here, we've snugged up the hardware, what we are going to do next is we're going to make sure all the handles are open, all the legs. We're going to remove it off the block that we used earlier to hold it up, and then we should be able to set it into position into the pucks. So, once we get our hitch dropped into position here, it's a good idea to go ahead and verify that the legs are sitting flat top the pucks, but then we can go ahead and close all of our handles here and resecure them with the pin.So, if you noticed our handles, they close pretty easily in the pucks, there weren't too much resistance and we don't really have a lot of slope either. So it's really going to be the perfect amount of tension. However, if you have too much slope or you can't close the handles, once you have the hitch into position, what we need to do is you're going to remove that cotter pin here, and you're going to tighten down that castle nut a couple of turns, then simply reinstall the cotter pin. You can loosen or tighten the nut depending on if you need more or less tension. So now we're going to come back with our torque wrench here. We're going to torque down all of our fasteners to the amount specified in our instructions. It is a little bit of a tight fit in here, but we are able to fit a pretty large torque wrench in. So, we'll just repeat that same process for our other three fasteners. And that's going to do it today for our look and installation of the Curt OEM 5th wheel Hitch legs for Chevy and GMC Towing Prep packages..

Worked perfectly easy to install. This is a great option if you’re going from a fixed rail or slider rail system to a puck. It took about 20 mins to change it over. Plus it save you the extra cost of have to buy an entirely new fifth wheel.

Such an awesome experience.Called etrailer on Wednesday and Jordon was my customer service professional. He was very patient and addressed all my questions and very knowledgeable.I will recommend him to all my friends who need any products that entrailer sells. I had read some posts about the products being delivered in poor condition.I have included pics of how nicely the shipping boxes were and couldn't have been more pleased. The other nice thing is that I ordered on Wednesday and received my Curt Q-20 on Friday. Assembly on the Curt Q-20 took about 30 minutes.Great instructions simple and all parts were in the package. Fabulous job Jordon and etrailer.com.Yall are the best! Steve Boone

My first pair came damaged. After notifying the company a new set was sent out. The process was real simple. I just had to take a couple pictures for review. The box it came in was damaged in transport. Overall, great product, helpful and courtous staff.

I have pulled many loads and have not had a problem. It’s real easy to use. The puck system works great with my truck it’s very easy to remove and reenstall if need be. It’s a little challenging to lube the grease point on the left side. The only thing I would suggest is install a slick plate for protection.I pulled a load without it and it scratched the outer coating. No worries, lesson learned.

Bought a 2019 Chevy 3500 dually with OEM puck system installed. Previous truck had in the bed rails Had a Curt A20 5th wheel hitch, purchased from E trailer. Customer service was awesome. They advised me to purchase the leg kit for Chevy puck system. Product arrived quickly and in great condition. Works as advertised. Thanks E trailer!!

etrailer is the best and the fastest. I have been using them for years. Tried to get parts for my fifth wheel hitch from a local guy he was 150 dollars higher and would have taken a week longer to get. Great job etrailer

by:

I have not installed these on my Curt Q20 hitch yet so i can't say much about the product yet. However, I will say the packaging was poor. The box these legs came in was torn apart and barely containing the product(s). I assume everything that was supposed to be in the box was there.

by:

These legs are quite heavy duty. Great welds and nice fit and finish. Bolted right up to my A25 5th wheel hitch and fit nicely into the GM Bed Puck system.
I ordered this on a Thursday and received Saturday. Thanks etrailer!
