Video Transcript for Brophy Ball Mount Review BM68C

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the Brophy trailer hitch chrome ball mount. So when it comes to a trailer hitch ball mount, you know, there's a ton of different options out there all the way, you know, from real simple ones to a really, really nice ones that are adjustable and made from different materials and just about everything in between. So, when you're choosing a ball mount, you wanna make sure that it's going to properly suit your needs. you know, and so having a fixed one like this, this is gonna be ideal, let's say if you're really just using the same vehicle to tow all your trailers and all of your trailers are similar as far as where they're gonna ride when they're level. All right, because this won't be adjustable.

You're gonna have your drop and of course you can flip it around and that will give you a rise position too. But once you figure that out, you know, that's gonna really help get you going in the right direction. If you're someone that, you know, constantly changes their tow vehicle or tows a ton of different types of trailers, you know, there's other options out there that may be a little bit better for you like adjustable ones that have multiple sized balls and everything else. But with that said, you know, one of the things that kind of separates this one is its chrome. You know, it has a really nice finish here and it actually impresses me to be honest, something like this, you know, it's a perfect fit like today, We have it on the back of an Escalade.

You know, it just kind of make sense. Lot of chrome accents and everything else. So, you know, if you kind of wanna spice up, you know, how the back of your truck or towed vehicle's gonna look, you know, this is definitely one way to do it. So one thing I do want to mention is that the trailer hitch ball Mount itself, it's not gonna come with a ball or pin and clip, not really a huge deal. You know, we're just reusing some old ones here.

If you need new ones, don't have them, not a crazy deal. You can grab them right here at etrailer, but that said, you know, whatever ball you decide to go with, make sure it has a one inch shank. That's what the ball Mount will accept. So you do need to pay attention to that. And this is also going to work with two inch by two inch hitches, so pretty common deal there.

It also accept the five eighths pin and clip. So pretty standard stuff there, but something I figured, you know, I'd touch base on. Now as far as the drop, how far the ball mount has gotta come down, it's gotta have a six inch drop. And if we we're to take it out and flip it over it's gonna have a four and three quarter inch rise. So, I'll make sure you pay attention to that as well. As far as weight capacities go, it's actually pretty high. This is really thick material here and the maximum gross tongue weight rating, it's gotta be 750 pounds. So the amount of weight that's pushing down on the ball mount and the maximum gross trailer weight rating, it's gotta be 7,500 pounds. And that's gotta be the amount of weight that is pulling on the ball. But with that said, you know, really just don't want to exceed your hitches limitations or as well as your towed vehicle's limitations. So, you know, you can always find that information on your hitch or in your vehicle's Owner's Manual. And you just want to definitely make sure to go with the lowest of those numbers. So just to kind of make sure that this ball mount is going to work for you, as far as, you know, the drop or rise, it's really easy to actually figure it out. And what you want to do is back up your towed vehicle to your trailer, try to get nice level ground, you know, have it set up something like this. And you're gonna measure from the top inside edge of your receiver tube, opening down to the ground. And then as far as the trailer goes, make sure you have it level. And you're gonna measure it from the bottom of your coupler down to the ground. And whatever that difference is that's going to be the determining factor on how big of a drop or how much of a rise that you might need. If this one doesn't fall within your range, not a big deal. Like I said earlier, there's a ton of different options available. And the most important thing is, is to make sure that you get the appropriate drop or rise. That way, that way everything rides nice and level. You're just gonna have a better towing experience whenever you have it set up that way. As far as the shank coming off the ball mount goes, nice and thick, very solid. And the pinhole here is gonna be kind of located closer to the end. So we don't have that much distance to cover here. So, you know, even if your hitch has a really, your hitch is really shallow, it should have no issues kind of plugging into it. Or even if your hitch is really deep, you know, we still have quite a bit of space there. So generally speaking, unless you have kind of an odd ball type pitch, generally speaking, you know, it really, shouldn't give you any issues and should work with just about any type of vehicle, really. So at the end of the day, you know, a pretty nice ball mount, actually, I would definitely use it on my own personal vehicle If this is what I was looking for. And I think the chrome looks really nice, you know, depending on, you know, what type of vehicle you have or, you know, what kind of look you're going for this can take kind of a boring component and just something kind of worth looking at. But other than that, you know, that'll finish up our look at the Brophy trailer hitch ball Mount..

Received exactly what I ordered and couldn't be happier! etrailer kept me in the loop on when to expect the order, and it's progress. All very positive!

by:

I’m pleased with the product and how prompt the delivery was. However the packaging was insufficient and the packaging was torn open all over. Scuffing of the finish is a result and of little consequence due to the intended use. It’s a stinger w/ball for motorhome. May I suggest better packaging in the future

by:

I like the extra long length. No one else make a hitch this long.

by:

Slightly longer, so you can open your tailgate with a cargo trailer attached. Trailers with a tongue jack that is forward are problematic for tailgates...

by:

Love “etrailer” !! Always have what is ordered and send the item very timely. I always check with etrailer first as they are well stocked. Thank you etrailer.com!! Also George!

by:

I didn’t receive the ball mount. Only thing in the box was anti rattle device

by:

The products themselves I’m sure will do the job. I’m very disappointed in how they arrived. Poorly packaged, one piece of paper wrap did nothing. There was a hole in the box from the hitch not being wrapped up. There are chips in the powder coat.

by:

This is really nice. Beveled edges so it slips into receiver hitch so sweet. Beautiful welds heavy weight mount for my weigh safe ball. I bought a 10,000 lbs hitch and I wanted a draw bar with the same type rating. Now the only thing limiting my trailer capacity is my truck's ability to tow, not the hitch, bar or ball.

by:

Very heavy duty, thanks Hannah

by:

I purchased a Ranch Hand rear bumper for my 2500HD but wanted to retain the use of a receiver hitch. The ball mount would need to extend 8" from the pin hole to even reach the edge of the bumper. This BM29 ball mount works out perfect. The welds look great and the finish is just fine. The only complaint I have is they gained a little length by moving the pin hole a little closer to the end shortening the insertion amount slightly. Not a big deal, it is just noticable next to the other mounts I have at the house.

by:

Great price and fast ship.Thanks

by:

Just bought a set of front steps for my boat, and needed some extra length on the ball mount.
This mount fits the bill at 13 1/4 long

by:

Perfect size for a 2004 Jeep Liberty with spare wheel on back. Very nice quality. I can now mount my trailer hassle free.

by:

Needed to extend my hitch due to tailgate needing to be open. E-Trailer had this one on hand for a very decent price. Easy order, and fast shipping. Thank YOu.

by:

BM20 Long Drawbar. Perfect for my 2005 Jeep Liberty. I no longer have to remove the spare to tow. Solved what was a major pain!

by:

Great hitch. Just what I wanted. This will keep my utility trailer "on the level".

by:

Just what I needed, quick delivery too.

by:

Great for chassis cab trucks with long boxes.

by:

Just what I needed to tow my boat

by:

just what i needed

by:

Gives me the extra 6" extension I need so that the rear liftgate on my van can open without hitting the trailer jack, or the spare tire which I carry on the trailer tongue.

This is a VERY solid piece, would easily handle far more than my 300lb tongue weight.
As usual etrailer delivered exactly as promised.

by:

This worked out perfectly. Had a flat bed put on one of our pickups, but the frame mounted hitch sat too far back from the new dock bumper. This ball mount moved it out just right so we didn't have to put a new receiver on the truck.

by:

I love this trailer hitch for my truck because it allows freedom to put tailgate up and down when we do equestrian camping. It has been a great purchase.

by:

This product allowed me to open my deck lid on the tow vehicle while hitched. I love it, was delivered promptly and is excellent quality, could not love it more!
Also increased capacity from 600/6000 to 1000/10000 lbs. while not needed I like the safety of the margin.

  • Does Brophy Ball Mount Have Different Weight Capacity When Used in Rise Position
When used in the rise position, the Brophy Ball Mount # BM68C referenced in your question will maintain its 7,500 pound towing capacity and 750 pound tongue weight capacity. The capacity for this ball mount will remain the same whether you are using it for its 6 inch drop or 4-3/4 inch rise. For the 2020 model, you'd use the # C56434 from Curt. This harness is pretty easy to install, it plugs inline at the point where the vehicle's taillight wiring harnesses plug inline with the taillight assemblies. To power the unit, you'll use the included wire, fuse and fuse holder to run a power supply wire from the converter box to the positive battery terminal as shown in the provided link to the install video.
