Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

Going on two years now and these tires are holding up strong on our 1971 Apache Pop-Up trailer which was converted to a permanent hardside camper/ice fishing combo thingy. We're very pleased with the quality and ease it was buying from etrailer. Will definitely purchase replacements, in the future, from you guys.

The tires are in great shape. They only get about 500 miles of use every year. But they havent yielded to the harsh weather fluctuations here in Minnesota.

by:

Bought these because I wanted to be able to pull my single rail motorcycle trailer at highway speeds with confidence. These are great tires! The trailer is light but the added width/strength made things much more stable and gave me a lot more confidence when I get on the freeway. 1 year in and no issues whatsoever. Very happy with my purchase! Pictures show the old vs. new

by:

Arrived on time and apparently etrailer and Kenda load star tires are THE tire to go with. Will come back to check up later. Rubber was fresh and no dry rot as I have gotten tires from other places that were past expiration date and showed signs of dry rot before mounted.

Have tripped all over western plains and put thousands of miles on these tires. I stand by them as a solid choice. My friend had to go with another type of tire as these were out of stock. Those were nowhere near in the same shape as mine by trip’s end. He may very well likely have to upgrade soon as they were worn unevenly.

by:

These have been great little wheels for my ‘88 Coleman pop up camper. We have made a few dozen 1-2 hour trips and one 5 hour trip their first year and they’ve been great. They were marginally more expensive than just the tires and with my rims being original to the unit, I figured the hassle and cost of having the tires mounted was worth the extra money. I just bought the entire wheel and a new breaker bar for the 33yo lugs and did it myself. Shoulda gotten shiny new lugs but still very happy.

by:

We have these tires & wheels mounted on our Coleman tent trailer and they work very well. They provide a smooth ride and appear to be well balanced. I replace trailer tires every 5 years and will upsize to 12 inch when I order replacements to provide a little more clearance.

by:

switched to these to lower, widen, and stiffen up an old style pontoon trailer. Night and day difference in how it handles. Tires are good quality with quiet tread. Wheels are nice and well coated. Great buy, highly recommend!

by:

These tires are spectacular and the service is even better! I opted for the 10 Plies and we have no trouble clearing land and worrying about twigs or pokes in my tractor tires.
Etrailer person was extremely helpful in determining my size with mixed information and provided a good follow-up and quick delivery. I am thrilled and will keep coming back.

by:

This is the time a company has reached out after a year to ask for a review. I can say these tires have been great on our popup camping trailer.

by:

Beautiful tires and rims. Very fast shipping. The etrailer site is the easiest and most complete tire store I have used. Very satisfied customer!

by:

The new tires and rims are an excellent fit for my Coleman camper. The spare tire cover is also from etrailer. Thanks for the quick shipping. I'm a happy camper.

by:

The tire and wheel look to be of good quality only time will tell the whole story

by:

Perfect fit for my application on my travel trailer! Perfect upgrade to the original tires!

by:

Exceptional as always

by:

Fit perfectly on my 1989 Coleman Shenandoah. Replaced the original rims and tires from 2007 for my complete refurb. They look great.

by:

Well I only pulled them out of the box today... and as long as they fit the 4 lug dimension of our 1972 Apache Ramada camper then we are good!! Love that new tire smell!

Super fast shipping, and immediate follow up from etrailer.com telling me that they had been delivered. That’s great customer service!

by:

Pretty fast delivery. Tires seem like good quality.

by:

Product was great. Exactly as I ordered. Shipped same day and was here in 3 days. Love the etrailer team they're amazing. Needed new tires on our 1990 jayco 1206 as the tires on it we're still original. Now we can camp this year and not worry about any blowouts.

by:

They work great! Handled all the weight I have put on them so far. Would I buy them again? Yes.

by:

Excellent tires after 1 year and about 500 miles.

by:

So far so good. Excellent customer service. Tires look great. I'll update after the first few trips.

by:

Ordered these tires for my Apache camper. Shipping was on time. Definitely a good sturdy tire.

by:

Excellent experience with e trailer. Product wasn't very hard to find on the site.

by:

This is a spare for an old motorcycle trailer I have with very small strange looking wheels. Seems like the right size!

Could not be happier with my purchase on etrailer. Tires came the next day as promised properly aired and ready to go. Mounted them to the camper that night and headed out for camping the next day. Traveled both the back roads and highway. The ride was much better than the old tires I had on the camper. I will be replacing the spare tire soon with another purchase on etrailer.
I would highly recommend etrailer to anyone for their quality and customer service.

  • Will Loadstar 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP56 Fit an Old Trailer With 7.00-10 Tire Size
You are correct, the 7.00-10 is the tire size and it designates a 7 inch wide tire on a 10 inch diameter wheel. The overall height of the 7.00-10 tire would be around 21.2 inches. The Loadstar 205/65-10 K399 Bias Trailer Tire, Load Range E, part # AM1HP56, you have referenced is 8.4 inches wide and 20.4 inches tall. It has to be mounted on a 6 inch wide wheel. • How to Determine if a Trailer Wheel is Centered on the Hub or Centered Using Lug Nuts
Having a larger pilot diameter (center hole) on a trailer wheel is only an issue if the wheels are centered onto the axle using the hub (a hub centric wheel). In this case you would need an exact fit. You know you have a hub centric wheel if your trailer uses wheel bolts to attach the wheel instead of lug nuts. If your trailer is lug centric meaning the wheel is centered on the axle using the lug nuts, then having a larger pilot hole on the wheel is not a problem. It would only be an issue...
