Optronics Load Resistor Dimensions

Hyperflashing (or rapid blinking) of turn signals can occur when you switch from incandescent lights to LED lights. LEDs draw less power than incandescent bulbs, which often causes your vehicle to think that the bulb is burned out or about to burn out. And this is what leads to hyperflashing. This load resistor prevents the LED turn signal light on your truck or trailer from hyperflashing by mimicking the power draw of an incandescent light.

I’ve had 6 of these in my flat bed I built. They solved the lamp out issue and have held up so far. I liked these because I have a resistor for each lamp circuit, hopefully this simplifies running down any issues that may pop up in the future.

  • Troubleshooting LED Trailer Lights Causing Error Code On 2021 GMC Sierra Denali 2500
To correct the issue the couple is having powering LED trailer lights with their 2020 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 I recommend going with the Trailer Connector Adapter w/ Lamp-Out Sensor Bypass # 20142 due to it being a simple plug and play adapter that installs in the vehicle's 7-way connector and you simply plug the trailer's 7-way connector into it. The built in system will prevent the issues you are having and will allow you to move the adapter to a different vehicle if needed. The Optronics...

  • Availability of 3-Prong Pigtail Plugs with Load Resistors
The Optronics Round LED Trailer Stop, Turn and Tail Light # STL42RB does use a 3-prong plug for electrical connection. We offer right-angle 10-inch pigtail plug # A47PB and straight pigtail plug # A45PB. Neither of these includes a load resistor, which can be required on some wiring systems to mimic the higher electrical resistance of standard incandescent lights. Some turn signals will hyper-flash when used with LED lights because the wiring does not "see" the load from the super-high-efficiency...

  • Pig Tail Wiring with Load Resistor for Optronics LED Trailer Stop/Turn/Tail Light
For Optronics trailer light # STL23RB you can use wiring harness # ALEDRST1B. This harness comes with a load resistor built in to prevent hyper flashing. Hyper flashing is more common when putting LED lights on vehicles and not normally and issue on trailers.

  • Is The Curt 2 To 3 Wire Tail Light Converter Compatable With LEDs.
Yes, you will need to install resistors like the Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights - Male PL-3 Plug and Pigtail # ALEDRST1B or the Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights - Male PL-3 Plug and Female PL-3 Plug # ALEDRST2B. The Curt 2 to 3 Wire Tail Light Converter # C56196 is not compatible with LED lights and will need resistors.

  • Recommended Load Resistor for Installing Optronics LED Trailer Light STL43RB
When high-efficiency LED type lights are installed in place of power-hungry incandescent bulbs it is often necessary to install a load resistor. The resistor turns some of the incoming power into heat and in doing so it mimics the higher power draw of an incandescent bulb. This will prevent the hyper-flashing common when LEDs are installed in an incandescent lighting system. For the Optronics Round LED Trailer Stop, Turn and Tail Light # STL43RB you can use their load resistor kit # ALEDRST1B...

  • LED Tail Lights Added to Flat Bed Truck Hyper Flash with Flashers/Turn Signals On
What you are describing can happen on vehicles when LED lights are installed but there is an easy fix. The problem is that the low power draw of LED lights can make the vehicle computer think that there is a bulb out because there isn't enough power draw. So it will hyper flash or not work properly in some situations. The solution is to install load resistors, # DI34ZR, on any circuit that is affected. So the reverse lights will not have that problem because they draw constant power but...

  • Switching from Incandescent to LED Trailer Lights
If you're switching from incandescent lights to LED lights on your trailer, then because of the difference in power draw between the two lights you may need to add a resistor between the relay and the light. If you have issues like hyper flashing or voltage bleeding once you've installed the lights you can use a resistor similar to # ALEDRST1B behind each relay, but in front of the lights. This is in order to make sure that your new LED lights aren't overloaded and will function correctly...

  • Pulling a Trailer With LED Lights and the Vehicle is Reading Lamps Out
Though we do recommend having a resistor on each LED light, we do have other options as well. Since you mentioned having a 7 Way connector, you could use a lamp out sensor adapter like the # 20142 if the trailer is wired with a 7 Way plug or a # C35FR if you have a 4 Flat or 5 Flat plug on the trailer. These have all the needed pieces to trick the vehicle's computers into working with LED lights on the trailer. That being said, you could spice resistors into each of the wires attached...

  • Troubleshooting LED Lights Not Working On Trailer
The first thing I recommend doing is to check that the ground wire for the lights is securely attached to a clean metal surface on the trailer frame. A loose ground wire will keep the lights from working. If the ground attached to the trailer does not give you an adequate ground, you can run the wire up to the ground circuit on the trailer connector. Next, you want to make sure the wiring on the trailer is wired correctly and wired by function, not just by color. I recommend using a...

  • Will the Optronics Load Resister # ALEDRST2B Give Me Turn Signals with My Optronics Tail Lights?
For your 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 HD, the Optronics Load Resister # ALEDRST2B will solve the issue. However, it is important to note that the # ALEDRST2B comes with a plug-in on the end. If you need the harness that allows you to hardwire it with your vehicle, that is the Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights - Male PL-3 Plug and Pigtail # ALEDRST1B. In order to determine which harness you need, I went ahead and attached videos for you to check out.

  • Troubleshooting Turn Signals and Brake Lights Not Working With Running Lights On
Based on what you are describing it sounds like you have an insufficient ground. Make sure your ground connection is secure on a clean, bare-metal surface. This could be on the vehicle side or the trailer side so I would make sure to check ground connections on both. I have attached a helpful article on troubleshooting 4-way wiring for your reference.

  • Can the Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights # ALEDRST1B be Used on a Boat Trailer
You certainly could use the Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights # ALEDRST1B on a boat trailer, but since electricity and water don't mix well we recommend unplugging the trailer connector before backing the trailer into the water.

  • Is Load Resistor Needed To Replace Incandescent Front Turn Signal W/ Optrionics LED Turn Signal?
Yes, you will need to use load resistors to keep the Optronics LED Trailer Turn Signal Lights # STL72CAB that you are installing on the front bumper of your vehicle from hyper flashing. I recommend using the # ALEDRST1B as it has the 3-prong plug needed to plug directly into the light, and can then be wired to the truck. You will need to connect the white wire to the ground wire on your truck, the black wire to the running light wire on your truck, and the red wire to the turn signal...

  • Lamp Out Light Comes On in 2014 Audi A6 When Trailer Is Connected and Trailer Lights Flash Quickly
It sounds to me like you are experiencing the hyperflashing phenomenon that can occur with LED lights. In this case I recommend wiring in load resistors, like part # ALEDRST1B, to the left turn, right turn, and running light circuits of your trailer. My suggestion is to wire these in right behind your taillights. On the left hand side, one for the left turn wire and one for the running light wire. For the right side you would do the same, one for the right turn wire and one for the running...

The Fusion LED Trailer Tail Light - Stop, Tail, Turn, Backup - Submersible - Oval - Red/Clear Lens # STL211XRFHB will function off the same 12V of a van as the 12V of a trailer so you shouldn't have any issues. There is a difference in amperage when using LED lights as they don't draw the same power, so if you are getting flashing then you will use the Load-Resistors # DI34ZR or the Optronics Load Resistor for LED Lights - Male PL-3 Plug and Pigtail - Qty 1 # ALEDRST1B to help with the...

  • 2013 Ford Escape Shows Bulb Out when Trailer with LED Lights is Connected
The bulb out error or hyper flashing can occur any time LED lights are used in place of incandescent lights. Usually this issue is found on vehicles but has been know to occur on trailers as well. You will need to make the tow package wiring on the vehicle think there is more draw from the lights. To do this I recommend using load resistors on the affected circuits. If the trailer lights use the 3-prong plug like # ST70RB you can use # ALEDRST1B. Or you could install resistors such as...

The Optronics Oval LED Trailer Turn Signal and Parking Light # STL78AB uses a separate white ground wire along with the two power input wires, black for parking and red for turn. Odds are your original incandescent lights used their mounting hardware to establish the ground so you'll want to find a suitable bare metal surface to make that connection using a ring terminal like # DW05737-1 (order two). You will also want to apply dielectric grease like # 11755 to that grounding point to...
