Video Transcript for JR Products Hitch Pin and Clip Review

Hey everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer, and today we have the JR Products Hitch Pin and Clip. This is for your two and a half inch, like what we have here, and three inch hitches. So here we have our standard five eighths pin for two inch hitches. Compare that to our JR Products hitch pin, and you can see some differences, mainly the span. So for your two and a half inch hitch receivers, you're gonna want a longer span. This one has four and three quarter inches of usable length.

This can also be used for your three inch hitch receivers because of its length. Now, notice with the clip here, it goes into the hole just to help keep the everything in place. Everything is made of steel, but they also have this chrome plated finish for looks, but also to help resist corrosion. Very easy to install, as long as your accessory is lined up in the hitch pin hole, you can pop this through. This also will work with your two inch hitch receivers.

Just be mindful of the extra space that is needed around the hitch pin so that you can use it. Now, the diameter of this pin is five eighths of an inch, which is pretty standard for your class three and above hitch receivers. And you saw that right here. This was a look at the JR Products Hitch Pin and Clip for your two and a half inch and three inch hitch receivers at etrailer.com.

The pin is very sturdy and the length is great for my 2.5" hitch receiver. The problem I have is that a hitch is only as good as the weakest link and the clip that comes with this pin is not good.

I used this pin and clip for the first time on a 300 mile trip to Virginia. About halfway into the trip, we stopped for a break and I checked the setup. I found that the clip on the pin was on the verge of popping off. As the pin rotated, the clip hit the back of the hitch and it started to work itself loose. I am not sure if it would have been able to completely pop off, but it was concerning enough that I removed this pin and used another that I had handy. I will not use this one unless I can get a better clip for it. (note that I did not get a picture during the trip. The picture here is one I took after the trip to show what I experienced)

For comparison, I took a picture of the clip that came with this pin (the shiny one) next to the one I've been using for many years with no issues. You can see how much larger the gaps are on this clip and how much smaller the recess is where the pin rests. I can easily remove this clip by hand where the other clip I need a screwdriver to get some leverage.

The pin is great, but I would not trust the clip that comes with it.

Worked as expected

by:

This pin is exactly what I needed. The clip is heavy duty too. The right tool for the job!

by:

Description said it was 5/8" in diameter but it's just over 2" in diameter length said 4-3/4" span and it was almost 6".

Thank you for your review. This hitch pin is for 2.5 and 3 inch hitch receivers. To measure the diameter, take a ruler to the end of the pin instead of around like your photo suggests. Also, we measure the useable length of the hitch pin so not the bent part that does not go into the hitch receiver. Please watch this video for more info:

Great selection. Found just what I needed. Shipping was quick

by:

I wanted a longer hitch pin to make it easier to install and remove (the clip on the hitch pin I had was right up against the receiver - hard to install or remove). This was perfect.

by:

For the larger hitches this pin is perfect. Because of all the thefts, I prefer to take my entire hitch off and remove all doubt. This pin is perfect for the occasional towing job. If I was going for something more permanent I would probably want a locking pin.

by:

Nice hitch. Innovative. Being able to easily pivot the ball hitch out of the way when unused is very nice. A 3" hitch isn't cheap. I'm happy I spent my money on this one.
And above all, made in America with American steel!

  • How to Use Bike Rack in 3 inch Trailer Hitch of 2017 Ford F-350
What you need is the Buyer's Products part # 337RTA302 which fits your 3 inch hitch and gives you a 2 inch hitch for the bike rack to fit. This slides into your 3 inch hitch and then gives you a 2 inch hitch that sticks out a bit from the 3 inch hitch opening. This allows the bike hitch pin to work normally since essentially the rack is attaching to a 2 inch hitch like it is designed for. You'll need a pin for the adapter in the 3 inch hitch; use # 37201065 for a pin or # 63259 for a lock.

  • Weight Capacity of Curt Class V 2-1/2 Inch Hitch Receiver, Part # C15810
You are correct that the product description for the Curt Class V 2-1/2 Inch Hitch Receiver, Part # C15810, shows the same tongue weight and gross towing weight ratings with and without weight distribution. This is because unlike lower capacity hitches, say a Class III, this Class V hitch is already rated at or near the vehicle structural limits. Strictly speaking, adding a weight distribution setup would give this hitch receiver higher capacity, but it would serve no purpose. Unless...

If you are using a reducer sleeve such as Curt Reducer Sleeve 2-1/2" to 2" # C45405 or Blue Ox Hitch Reducer Sleeve - 2-1/2" to 2" Trailer Hitch # BX88187, then you will not have an issue as this style does not typically reduce the towing capacity and you will simply go by the towing capacity of your vehicle and hitch. However, you will want to look up that exact model/brand reducer or provide us with the information to make sure that there is no reduction in towing capacity. If you are...

I walked out to our warehouse and measured the mounting holes of the Curt Pintle Hook Combo # C48200. The holes measured 9/16 inch in diameter, and the kit includes the necessary 9/16 inch bolts. If you have the Titan Forged Pintle Hook Mounting Plate # RP45294, it will match up to attach to the Curt Pintle Hook Combo # C48200. You will also need to use a 5/8 inch diameter pin like the Titan Trailer Hitch Pin and Clip, part # 37201065.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch To Tow 2 Horse Trailer with 2004 Dodge Ram Truck
With the trailer load you will be carrying, using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 13333, would put you near or slightly over the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, which is 600 lbs. If you were to use a weight distribution system when carrying your horse trailer you would be ok to use the Curt # 13333 Hitch. Tongue weight is calculated to be about 10 to 15 percent of the Gross Trailer Weight. I would recommend using the Curt Class V Trailer Hitch, part # C15409. This hitch will...

The Convert-A-Ball Cushioned Ball Mount for 2-1/2 Inch Hitches, part # AMSCV-2, will fit your 2011 Ford Super Duty if it has a 2-1/2 inch receiver. It has a towing weight capacity of 18,000 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 2,000 lbs. This ball mount has a 2 inch drop and a 3/4 inch rise. To determine the drop or rise you will need for towing you will need to measure the hitch height on your truck. With the vehicle parked on level ground, measure to the top of the 2-1/2 inch receiver...

For a hitch pin to use with the 3 inch outer diameter (2-1/2 inch receiver opening) hitch on your 2016 Dodge Ram Pickup, I recommend the Hitch Pin and Clip for 2-1/2" and 3" Hitches - 5/8" Diameter x 4-3/4" Span # 37201065. This Pin and Clip is designed to fit 2-1/2 inch or 3-inch trailer hitches and has a diameter of 5/8 inches, making it compatible with the 5/8 inch hole on your ball mount as well.

  • What Tool Can be Used for Cutting Down Titan Hitch Box Extension
A cut-off wheel would be great for cutting down the Titan Hitch Box Extension # RP45018. Most people without access to those type of tools use something basic like a hacksaw for cutting the extension so your set up is going to be a much less strenuous process. As far as brackets that attach to an OEM hitch, that is not something that we offer, and there is going to be a bit of back and forth play with the extension, but it will be firmly in the hitch so long as you use the proper pin and...

This extension can be used at 34" which will give you a towing capacity of 4,500 lbs or 6,000 lbs if you are using a weight distribution system. Since you have a 3/4-Ton truck I assume that you have a 2-1/2" square receiver using a 5/8" hitch pin. We don't have a stainless steel option, but you could use the etrailer # e65TR which has a 4-1/2" span and it has a durable black finish or the JR Products # 37201065 which has a 4-3/4" span and is chrome plated.

Since the etrailer Magnetic Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve # e28JR fits into a 2-1/2" receiver you need to make sure the pin you're using is able to reach all the way through. Some pins made for 2" receivers can still fit the larger 2-1/2" receivers, but as a general rule of thumb you'll likely need a larger pin. If you don't already have one I recommend picking up the Hitch Pin and Clip # 37201065 which is just a standard pin but it will work with this reducer sleeve perfectly.
