Forged, Self-Latching Jaw

Self-Latching Jaw

The one-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel hitch provides absolute security with its wraparound design. Increased jaw-to-king-pin contact results in not only a stronger connection, but less noisy rattling and stiff chucking as well.

The jaw is also always ready to receive, so you don't need to use the handle to open it before backing up toward your trailer. As long as the bail pin is removed from the latching handle, the jaw will accept the king pin as it enters the hitch.

Finally, the jaw is self-latching, so it will automatically secure your trailer's king pin when it moves into the jaw.

Quiet, Comfortable Ride

Pivot Bushings

In addition to the tight jaw tolerance, a close connection between the head and the pivot bushings further reduces rattle and movement. And because the pivot bushings are independent from the head, they can be tightened to ensure a strong connection over time.

King Pin Indicator Prevents High Pinning

King Pin Indicator

This M5 hitch features a built-in king pin indicator to ensure proper hookup. This indicator is located on the back of the head along with a V-shaped notch that are both visible from the cab of your truck. The V-notch is lined up with the jaw at the front of the hitch, and can be used as a guiding point to line the king pin up with the jaw as you back up your truck. The jaw also has an internal plate that keeps the king pin from entering if it is too high to enter safely. As a result, the king pin indicator will only change from red to green if the king pin is fully engaged in the jaw.

Easy-to-Use Latching Handle

Lever and Hitch

This hitch's handle is designed for smooth motion and effortless operation. It requires only 2 fingers to use and won't bind up as you pull. In addition, the handle is long, so it's easy to access from outside of your truck bed. And the ergonomic grip makes it comfortable to hold and pull from different angles.

Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches
part number: RP56011-53

Heavy-duty, custom brackets dramatically reduce the amount of drilling and time required to install your fifth-wheel trailer hitch. Outboard design ensures simple access to mounting points. Brackets, 10-bolt base rails and hardware included.

Features:

  • Installation brackets mount beneath your truck bed to provide attachment points for 5th-wheel rails
  • Base rails sit in truck bed and allow installation of 5th-wheel trailer hitch
  • Fast, simple installation with outboard design
    • Extended-length base rails allow for mounting farther out from truck frame
      • Avoids underbed components for easier access
      • Cuts down installation time by more than half compared with universal kits
    • Custom brackets mount to existing holes in truck frame, minimizing drilling and measuring
  • Thoroughly tested kit is compliant with strict Society of Automotive Engineers guidelines
  • Kit includes brackets, 10-bolt rails and Grade-8 hardware
  • Compatible with Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese and Valley 5th-wheel hitches
  • Sturdy, black powder coated steel resists corrosion

Specs:

  • Base rail dimensions: 48" long x 1-7/8" tall
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Reese's outboard installation kit for your fifth-wheel trailer hitch was designed with safety and convenience in mind. Just like the original custom mounting brackets, these brackets install using existing holes in the truck frame, minimizing installation time. The biggest difference with this outboard kit is the extended-length rails. These above-bed rails are 5 inches longer than standard, universal fifth-wheel rails so that they will match up with the mounting points on the brackets, which sit below the bed and outside of your truck's frame. The result is a much simpler installation process, wherein most underbed components can be easily avoided. Because you are working outside the frame rails, you also have easier access with your tools and more room to work, making the whole process less of a pain.

The base rails included in this installation kit feature a standard 10-bolt design. Each of these rails attaches to the underbed brackets with two carriage bolts at both ends. A single bolt is used in the center of each rail to further secure it in your truck bed. The result is a set of base rails that remains firmly in place thanks to 10 points of contact.

This entire installation kit is built to be SAE J2638 compliant and has been extensively tested per specified accelerated-life-cycle criteria for fifth-wheel trailer hitches. The requirements for testing are based on the European-style test of 900,000 cycles, making this testing process among the most thorough and intensive in the industry.

Tried to install this on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500, dual rear wheel, long bed, 4x4, diesel engine truck. The clamp style mounting simply does not work. The ONLY way I can see this working is by drilling added holes in the frame of the truck at the front end of the side plates. This is because of a bend in the frame at the clamp location. Also at this location the frame is boxed in and any bolt holes will be hidden. Bolts would have to fished in with bolt wires.

I am very pleased with my purchase of the Reese M5, a major improvement over my old receiver. Great service from etrailer as well.

Packaged well and super quick shipping

by: John M01/08/2020

Ordered this hitch for my 03 ram 3500 shortbed and didnt get a chance to install it untill 2 months later. Which is when i noticed it was missing some hardware. I contacted etrailer and they shipped me the missing hardware at no cost to me, how can you beat that anyone else would have said go pound salt its been 2months . The installation was cut and dry with good instructions. I like how the hitch installed onto the frame and the quality of the parts its built heavy, its agriculture approved lol. Thanks again etrailer for the unbeatable price and fantastic customer service

by: Pattie01/27/2022

I love it. It’s very easy for me to setup. The only issue i had was rge breakout away cable snapped in have and i was not able to find a replacement. I had a friend who was able to make me another one.

by: Cindy12/27/2021

I had to return this hitch as it was unusable due to manufacturing defects. etrailer honored the return and refunded me completely.

by: Jeffrey09/28/2021

Great product, shipped in really good time, etrailer was excellent in communication, only small problem was package was damaged in transit, and my item had some pretty bad scratches on it. But when I notified etrailer of this they gave me a choice of shipping it back in exchange for a new one or giving me a nice credit back if I could live with the scratches. I choose the latter and I thought it was great that they gave me the choice.

by: John01/25/2021

Great hitch. Easy to use and pulls my 40ft rig like a champion!

by: Robert V06/10/2023

The order before I received this one, I do not understand why you would ship two products that would not work together although I ordered them wrong, with out letting me know before it was shipped. I didn't know that my order was wrong until I went to install it in my truck. It cost me time and money.

by: Rhonda05/16/2023

There where parts missing.

by: James08/29/2022

Easy install, visual confirmation pin is locked into 5th Wheel, and no more chucking when pulling trailer.

by: Steven01/02/2023

This went well also. Only thing that could have been better is the grease (lube) information. To this day, I still don't know what parts to lubricate or where or with what.

Instructions were great & installation was easy. High quality parts that looked great and are holding up well. Etrailer and Cequent (Reese's parent co.) are both great companies to deal with - extremely knowledgeable and helpful with the products they sell.

This kit was pretty easy to install. Took 2 guys about an hour and a half to complete. The install video was extremely helpful. We watched it several times before we began. Everything fit like a glove and looks great. Will definitely buy this kit on my next truck. The hardest part was cutting the flimsy bed liner. Thanks Reece and Etrailer.

by: Jerry M02/14/2015

I installed this rail kit in about 4 1/2 hours including cutting out the bedliner. The instructions were perfect. It fit great. The staff at e trailer led me to this model kit and I'm glad they did. Great product

by: Jim m02/06/2017

We got off on a rocky start because the parts weren't correct in the box but that wasn't etrailer's fault.. Etrailer went above and beyond to correct the problem and I greatly appreciate it.. product fits great and I'm very pleased. Fair price also.. Will do business with etrailer again

by: James03/16/2022

Loved the product, hated the installation instructions

by: Robert10/22/2021

I've only just got it installed and as of yet have not tested it under load. Hope to pick-up and tow my RV back home this weekend. I will update My review when I return.

Do you have a question about this Fifth Wheel Hitch?

  • Do I Need a Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2019 Ford F-250 Short Bed?
  • Congrats on the new trailer! You will need a sliding 5th wheel hitch. A standard fixed hitch like the Curt A20 item # C16140 won't provide you with the necessary clearance you'll need. You'll end up running the nose on your Dutchman into the back of your F-250's cab. Since you already have a set of Reese 5th wheel rails installed, the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider item # C16541 will be a great addition to your set up. The Curt A20 has a 20,000 lbs capacity and will give

The B&W item # BWRVK2505 rails are industry standard which means they are compatible with your Reese M5 item # RP30928 along with most 5th wheel hitches on the market. • The Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30928 has three height settings (14", 16", or 18") which can all be safely used to tow from. The key is to raise you hitch head to the correct height to keep your trailer as close to level as possible while towing, while still have at least 6" of clearance between the nose of the trailer and the top of your truck's bedrails. To find this number you'll need to level your trailer and measure from the ground to the king pin plate and from the ground

This hitch is designed to fit all standard base rails. If you determine that this hitch will not fit your rails, then you will want to choose a hitch based on the brand of your base rails. If you can tell me the manufacturer of your rails, then I can make a hitch recommendation for you.

Sway with fifth wheel trailers is typically not very common when compared to bumper pull towing so when it is happening it's almost always due to suspension problems on the trailer. That would be the first thing I would check. Also make sure you aren't exceeding the towing capacity of your truck. If you are overloading the truck beyond what it

  • For a set of air bags with a 5,000 lb capacity that is compatible with the Reese fifth wheel rail kit part # RP56011-53 we have the Firestone Ride Rite kit part # F2299. The rail kit also is perfectly compatible with Reese and Husky hitches as it provides the industry standard rails which both hitches

  • What is Difference Between Reese Fifth Wheel Rail Kits that Fit 2008 Dodge Ram 2500
  • Reese makes two different styles of above bed fifth wheel rail kits like you mentioned that have pros and cons. • Will Reese Outboard Installation Kit Fit with Load Assist Air Bags on a 2012 Ram 2500
  • I spoke with my contact at Reese who said that the load assist air bags on your 2012 Ram 2500 should be aftermarket. Since they aren't OEM, which Reese would have performed a test fit with, I can't necessarily verify that they will work with the Reese Quick-Install Custom Outboard Installation Kit # RP56011-53 that you referenced without knowing what exact air bag kit you have. If you can let me know what you have and send in a picture with it then I could verify it that way for you. Attached

  • Can Dodge Ram 2500 with Ram Boxes Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • The problem with the Ram Box is that is that it puts the rails of the bed too close together and it causes interference with the pin box of the trailer around corners. We have heard several customers say that with a Sidewinder pin box they were able to tow a fifth wheel trailer with a truck with a Ram Box. Sidewinders move the pivot point higher so the Ram Box wouldn't interfere. You will need to remove the pin box of the trailer and replace it with a Sidewinder pin box. Sidewinders
