Will Pro Series Weight Distribution System # PS49903 Work On A 26 Foot 7500 lb Trailer

Question:

I need to know what product to buy/install to stop my 26foot enclosed trailer from swaying. I will be pulling it with my 2500hd silverado. Thanks.

To lessen the swaying issues you have with your 7500 lb 26-foot enclosed trailer, I recommend installing a sway-control device. There are 3 types of sway control, independent friction sway control, dependent friction sway control, and active sway control.

Independent sway control reduces trailer sway after it has already begun using a bar-style device that bolts onto your trailer frame and hooks up to a small hitch ball that mounts to the system head at the other end. Dependent sway controls are built into weight-distribution systems and combat trailer sway as soon as it begins by creating enough resistance to essentially force your trailer to remain in line. Active sway control is built into the weight-distribution system, but it does not use friction to stop trailer sway, it proactively and aggressively stops sway before it begins by forcing the two vehicle and trailer to continuously ride in the straight line.

I have included an FAQ link addressing sway control.

When choosing a weight distribution system, the important factors to consider are the fully-loaded and ready-to-tow tongue weight of the trailer and the weight of any cargo loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. The tongue weight of a trailer is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight (GTW). If your gross trailer weight is 7500 lbs, that will put your tongue weight at approximately 750 lbs to 1125 lbs. It is important that you know the fully-loaded tongue weight of your trailer and choose a system that can handle that weight. I have attached a link to a help article on finding your trailer tongue weight for you to check out.

The Curt Weight Distribution System # C17322 will work on your trailer to help prevent trailer sway as long as the tongue weight of your trailer and any cargo behind the rear axle is 800 lbs to 1000 lbs. The friction sway control reduces sway caused by winds, curving roads, and sudden maneuvers. It features adjustable tension that allows you to create the perfect degree of control and resistance and can be removed by simply releasing 2 spring locking pins.

Since your trailer is 26 feet and more than 6000 lbs, you will need a additional friction sway control kit. You can purchase the Reese Sway Control Kit # 83660. It will provide your trailer with more stability.

I have included links to the instructions on proper installation for these products as well as videos showing installation.

A system that I recommend is the Reese Steadi-Flex Weight Distribution Systems like # RP66560 due to its built in friction sway control. Another advantage is that the mounting brackets are easy to install and adjust. I have provided a link to all the Reese SC weight distribution systems that we offer for you to check out. Once you find the total tongue weight of your trailer and cargo, you can simply choose a system that is rated for your setup.
