Malone Crossbar Specs

Folding Upright Posts with Foam Blocks

Malone Posts Up

The Stax Pro2 is one of the most economical ways to transport 2 kayaks on your roof rack. This post-style carrier stabilizes your boats so you can carry them on their sides. The carrier also utilizes foam blocks that contour to the curve of your kayaks to protect them from scuffs and scratches. And because it carries the boats on their sides, you may have extra space on your roof to carry additional gear if your crossbars are long enough. You can even carry 2 additional kayaks by adding 2 more sets of foam blocks and tie-downs (all sold separately).

Malone Post Folded Down

When you're not hauling your boats, the posts can be folded down to increase overhead clearance. This reduces the likelihood that you'll have to remove the carrier when you pull into your garage.

Load Straps and Bow/Stern Tie-Downs

Malone Post-Style Carrier Load Straps Installed

This carrier includes 5 cam-buckle straps for a solid hold while you transport your kayaks. Use 4 straps to secure your kayaks to the post and your vehicle's crossbars. For added security, wrap the remaining strap around the middle of both kayaks to secure them to the carrier. A set of bow/stern tie-downs are also included to secure the kayaks to the front and back of your vehicle. If your vehicle doesn't have any tie-down points, you can get an anchor kit (sold separately) which will let you create anchor points in the creases of your vehicle's hood and hatch.

Tool-Free, Clamp-On Installation

 Malone Posts Install

The carrier clamps to most crossbars without the need for tools. Simply set the posts on your crossbars, slide the mounting brackets over the bolts, and secure them with the T-knobs.

Needed a rack to haul my kayaks on my jeep patriot and this price was unbeatable. Works well, though I did not like using the foam blocks. Good first rack for new kayakers.

by:

We needed a carrier solution that folded down easily because of our garage door height. The Malone Pro2 Kayak Carrier has performed flawlessly over the past year. The kayaks remain stable and never shift even at freeway speeds. The foam blocks fit our crossbar well and offered a rattle free ride, which is nice. The one drawback to this system is how difficult it can be to actually route the straps. Without a ladder, it can be nearly impossible to get the strap over the kayak and hooked into the carrier properly. After you find a system that works for you, it becomes easier but I still think that the stationary carriers are more user friendly in that regard.

Ordered and received three products; a Yakima DoubleDown 4 bike rack, a Yakima hitchlock, and a Malone Stax Pro kayak carrier. The website contained a ton of information which allowed me to make an informed decision re which type/model and manufacturer of each item to choose. Ordering was simple and I received the items on the estimated date of delivery. I detected a manufacturing flaw in one of he items, however when I contacted the manufacturer the customer rep immediately shipped me the necessary parts and tools to repair the item. The installation of the rack and carrier was simple, especially having observed the videos on the etrailer website. Thus far we have transported two adult bicycles on the Yakima DoubleDown and the ride was very smooth as if there was no rack or bikes. We have also transported one kayak using the Malone carrier system and like the bike rack, the ride was very smooth and quiet as if there was no 10' kayak on the roof. The bike rack is on our 2015 Subaru Forester and the kayak carrier on our 2010 Chrysler Town and Country. Overall a very good experience and I would highly recommend etrailer and the Yakima DoubleDown and the Malone Staxx kayak carrier system (as well as purchasing the HitchLock to prevent the theft of the rack and bikes!).

This is a one-year anniversary of purchasing the hitch for my Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. I've kind of had time to forget how painful it was to crawl around under my car for a couple of hours, struggling to tighten the last bolt. But now it all feels worth it. I got a solid hitch that looks great and works great for way less than I would have if I had the dealer install it. Worth some discomfort lying on the ground cursing tight spaces on the underside of my car.

by:

Fit well onto my crossbars. Included everything you need to be able to use it right out of the box. I prefer the versatility of the post style over the cradles. Seems like solid construction that I anticipate lasting.

by:

I have had these for 1 year now and have used them several times. They have worked exactly as advertised. Keeps my kayaks secure and once you have the process of mounting down it is pretty easy. Nice product.

by:

Very helpful with no issues switching mounting plates

by:

Great product, well made and not too expensive. Actually using 2 pairs, side by side to carry 4 kayaks.

See what our Experts say about this Malone Watersport Carriers

  • Does the Malone Stax Pro2 Kayak Carrier Have a Locking Option to Prevent Theft
Unfortunately there is no option available that allows you to lock your Malone Stax Pro2 Kayak Roof Rack w/ Tie-Downs # MPG115MD to your crossbars. Ideally the weight of your kayaks on top of the carrier would be enough of theft deterrent, however what you can do is whenever you take the kayaks off, just pop those off as well and toss them in your car. Not an ideal situation I understand, but with these not having a locking option it's really the only option you have.

  • Best Way to Carry Two Kayaks on the Roof of a 2016 Ford Escape
I do have an option for you but it is very unlikely that you would be able to use two of the Malone SeaWing Kayak Carriers part # MPG107MD side by side on the roof of your 2016 Ford Escape. Instead, I recommend using an upright carrier like the Malone Stax Pro Kayak Carrier part # MPG115MD. This carrier or a similar design will give you the best chance of fitting two kayaks on the roof of your Escape in addition to being much more cost effective. They will however be a little more difficult...

  • Can I Carry 2 Kayaks Without a Carrier on Malone AirFlow2 Crossbars
I can't say that it's not possible, because with enough tie down straps, I've seen plenty of people do worse. However, it's not something I would advise you to do because you're not going to be able to properly stabilize the boats on their sides without a carrier. The very least thing I would recommend using with the Malone AirFlow 2 # MPG216 is a setup like the Malone Stax Pro2 Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs - Post Style - Folding - 2 Kayaks # MPG115MD. The Stax Pro2 gives you a post style...

If you want to use foam blocks to secure your kayaks to the Malone TopTier Load Bar Kit # MPG493 then I recommend using the Malone Stax Pro2 Kayak Carrier # MPG115MD which comes with foam blocks plus an upright for a quick and easy way to strap your kayaks down. • Differences Between Rhino Rack Kayak Carrier # RRS520 and Malone Kayak Carrier # MPG115MD
The Rhino Rack Kayak Carrier part # RRS520 and the Malone Stax kayak carrier part # MPG115MD are both very similar but the big reason the Malone is listed for only 2 kayaks is because it comes with two foam blocks for kayaks to rest on and then the Rhino Rack does not come with the blocks so it's possible to add additional kayaks without carrying them in a different way. Either will work great on a Malone roof rack as well.

Yes, the Rhino-Rack SG Roof Rack # RRSG59 is a great roof rack for transporting kayaks on the roof of your 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Hard Top. This roof rack only has a weight capacity of 88lbs so I recommend installing a lightweight kayak carrier setup such as Malone Stax Pro2 Kayak Carrier w/ Tie-Downs 2 Kayaks # MPG115MD. The load bars of the TracRac ladder racks are much thicker than standard roof rack crossbars which allows them to have the higher weight capacity but also is what prevents roof rack accessories that need to wrap around the bar from fitting. But the kayak carrier solutions that fit into the top channel of crossbars like the Rhino Rack Nautic 580 # RR580 will work so this would be your best solution.
