Lightweight Trailer is Perfect for Hauling Kayaks or Canoes

MPG586XL In Use

This lightweight and versatile trailer comes with a post-style carrier so you can transport 4 kayaks or canoes. With a 6-3/4' long tongue, this trailer offers exceptional clearance during tight turns. The extended tongue also makes it easier to back up the trailer and prevent binding than trailers with shorter tongues.

MPG568 post-style cradle

Durable post-style kayak carrier with soft foam pads prevent scuffs, scratches, or damage to your boat during transport. The pads stabilize your boat and help prevent road shock while traveling on uneven or rough terrain.

Submersible LED Trailer Lights

MPG535 LED tail lights

The DOT-approved tail lights on this trailer are fully submersible, so you don't have to worry about damaging the lights when loading and unloading your boat in water. Each tail light has brake, running light, and turn signal functions, as well as side marker lights and reflectors. In addition, these LED lights last longer, burn brighter, and require less power than incandescent bulbs.

CE48870 main harness to 4-way

The wiring for this trailer has a simple design, so it requires very little cutting or splicing to install. As you assemble the trailer, route the main wiring harness through the trailer tongue and down towards the body of the trailer. Then plug the 4-wire end of the tail light harness into the main harness.

Run the wires of the tail light harness along the sides of the trailer frame and attach the individual wires into the matching wires on the side marker lights and the tail lights using wire connectors. The wires are color-coded so that you can easily match them up - no circuit tester is required. Once all of the wires are secure, use the included clips to secure the harness to the frame.

CE48870 4-way plug

When you're ready to connect the trailer to your vehicle, simply plug the trailer end of the main harness into the 4-way flat connector on your vehicle.

Leaf Spring Suspension

MPG535 leaf spring suspension

This trailer includes a leaf spring suspension system to limit road shock while you tow. A sturdy steel axle runs beneath the trailer frame. The 2 slipper springs that support the axle flex to absorb the rough motion that can occur when driving over bumpy terrain. Also, the axle, spring hangers, and tie plate are galvanized to resist rust and corrosion.

Quick and Easy Trailer Hookup

MPG535 trigger style coupler

Hooking this trailer to your vehicle is quick and easy. The trailer's coupler connects to a 2" hitch ball, and the included safety chains act as an emergency measure if the coupler accidentally disconnects from your hitch ball. A rubber coated lift handle is mounted to the coupler to provide a solid grip for lifting or maneuvering the trailer. Finally, the skid plate on the underside of the trailer tongue keeps the coupler from touching the ground.

We started with small trips (22 miles one way) to gain confidence and kayak configurations. It was flawless. Feeling confident in the trailer and our rigging abilities we headed out for 1900 miles round trip with small trips to river and inter coastal. Spectacular with heavy kayaks (old town MK106x2) and a Wilderness tarpon 106 along with a Lifetime.
Because the MK106 are so wide we laid them flat and put the other kayaks on top. This worked well with some load shift and cushion fatigue but we weren’t using them by design so can’t complain. Overall excellent little trailer with big capabilities.

by:

Love this trailer. Light enough to hand pull and push into tight spots. So much easier than lifting boats onto the roof of my SUV.

Easy to put together. Tows well. Easy to load and unload. I had no idea that in Pennsylvania, I had to get a special $130 one-time safety before licensing. When lightly loaded, the springs rattle very loudly. The aftermarket gear box does not fit well and is inaccessible when the rack has a boat on it. Id give it a luke recommendation. Change the spring design!

The EcoLight Trailer has been perfect for my needs. It got to the point where putting two kayaks on my 2019 Jeep was getting too difficult. My wife @ 5'4" couldn't really help. I have two 12' Wilderness Pungo kayaks. The trailer is easy to move around manually with or without the kayaks aboard. While the assembly took awhile, it was a very methodical process. Very logical.
Two cautions: The directions tell you to lay out all the pieces before you begin. Do it, it will save time! Make sure you check how the decals will look when you turn the frame over. Mine are all upside down. It gives it a classic look, however.

by:

Looks like this will be a great trailer. All parts were there when I opened the boxes and there were no damaged parts. Only problem was that the Malone label and specs label on the tongue bar were installed upside down.

by:

Great tandem trailer for hauling kayaks. It's not difficult to assemble, but it will take you a good half day to put it all together. Watch the Youtube video before assembly as it will give you a few nice tips. Super sturdy, excellent tiedown straps that keep the kayaks immobile even on bumpy roads. Highly recommend!!

by:

I didn't have any problems assembling the trailer. I rated the trailer a 4 because after one year of use the rubber on the V mounts has some ware. Someday they will need replaced. Maybe a pool noodle will work? Other than that, I very happy with the trailer.

by:

The Malone EcoLight trailer is great. I’ve had it for a year now and it’s really helpful. My only issue (but not enough to go down to a 4-star rating) is that the rubber on the V-Style carriers started partially coming off when I first started using it. It doesn’t really cause a problem, however, buyers of the trailer itself might want to consider getting the version that has no carriers included, because you can put just about any style of carriers on it, like J-Style carriers.

I’m including a picture of my kayaks on the trailer. I store them bottom-side up because I don’t have anything covering the cockpits.

by:

This trailer is awesome! It can suit many needs for its weight capacity as long as you are capable of securing the load properly. I use it to haul two 12.5' kayaks. With everything loaded we're hauling about 250lbs and it rides nice even for a light load. Following instructions to construct it was straight forward enough although do allow yourself plenty of time and patience! Have had it for about 18 months now and its seen nearly 1k miles and it is really doing great. The replacement parts like spare wheels, lighting, and wiring are easily found online or at big hardware stores. Really a great trailer with easy repairability making it a good choice to have for a long time as long as its well taken care of.

by:

I’m very pleased with this trailer. The quality far exceeded my expectations. I will use it to transport my two 14 foot kayaks as I don’t feel like hoisting them to the roof of my car anymore. I am not mechanically inclined and was a bit intimidated when it arrived in three boxes. However the step by step instructions guided me through the assembly process and I put it all together over the course of a long afternoon.

by:

The Ecolight trailer is an excellent product for hauling kayaks. It arrived in 3 boxes and it took about 3 hours to assemble. The video from malone was helpful in assembly of the product. I would recommend this product for transporting kayaks easily.

We are first time trailer users and so far so good.

by:

Product as advertised, customer service excellent, haven't used it yet but so far so good

by:

'You get what you pay for'. The quality of the materials and fabrication made the assembling enjoyable without having to force pieces to 'make then fit'. Studying the instructions first, then going slow, made my trailer go together without issue. If I had it to do over again I would buy a Malone trailer without hesitation. Thank you for making such a quality product!

by:

We've been using the trailer with both the v-style carriers and some J-channel carriers we bought separately. With the J-channel carriers, we were able to carry 3 kayaks. I did replace the plastic license plate frame with a metal one making it a little more difficult to steal. I also added some eye bolts in the frame to make it easier to tie the boat bow and stern to the frame for safer travel over longer distances. The trailer rides well behind my Ford Edge. I soldered the trailer lighting and used heat shrink tubing instead of using the clips that were provided. I also purchased a spare tire and wheel, though short of road hazzards, the tires are expected to last for years.

by:

My Malone Ecolight Sport Trailer for my `heavy 12' sit-on-top fishing kayak is perfect for my fishing trips. I get lots of compliments on both my Kayak and trailer. People can't believe the trailer was a kit. I'm not an expert handi-man, but I had no trouble following the directions. A great buy!

by:

We have used the trailer a couple of times so far this year and found it to be very useful as well as helpful. Prior to the trailer we used a car roof mount which was labor intense and pretty difficult. Now we leave the kayaks on the trailer and just hook it up and go. I would certainly recommend this product and have to others who kayak with our church group.

by:

As expected. Good trailer

by:

Overall, I'm very pleased with this trailer. I can store my kayaks on the it in my garage and have it hooked up to my car, ready to go to the lake, in five minutes. Putting it together was not difficult. The quality is very good with one exception. The wiring harness that came with the kit seemed flimsy and fragile, with the insulation easily nicked. When I plugged it into my vehicle it blew a fuse in my car. I decided to scrap their wiring and went to the hardware store and purchased a new wiring harness that seemed sturdier. I also purchased heat shrink butt connectors for all the connections. The new harness has worked fine, with no further problems. The only other modification I made was additional padding on the J-style carriers to better cushion the boats and around the cross bars where they meet the vertical support to protect the tie down straps from sharp edges.
The 8-inch wheels make me a little nervous, but I repacked them with a high-quality grease (Triax Atlas 600 synthetic) at the end of summer and will replace the bearings at the end of this summer, probably with Timken bearings. I have also purchased a spare hub assembly with prepacked bearings to take with me on the road in case of a failure.

by:

We have used the trailer for a few weeks now and we are generally satisfied with it. The trailer can be loaded easily and moved by hand even with two kayaks on it. It seems to ride Ok when towing at normal road speeds. Reversing it takes some practice, probably because it has a narrower track than the utility trailers that I've towed in the past. Assembly was Ok, although I agree with a another reviewer that you need to be comfortable using a torque wrench and wire strippers. The instructions need to be updated and clarified. It took me a while to figure out how the wire clips worked. I wish the wiring was heavier gauge for overall robustness.

by:

Great trailer, easy assembly. Good directions, bad pictures. Use the etrailer assembly video! Solid, well made piece of road hardware. One note: I bought this to use my Yakima JayLow racks on, specifically because it says it will work with them. It will not. Although the rack can clamp on the 1 1/2" square bar, it is not stable and they will fall right off. I replaced the square bar with a 1" ID galvanized steel pipe cut to the correct length and it works great. Yakima says that rack is not really designed to clamp on square tubing.

by:

The Ecolight has proven to be an excellent base frame for hauling two Hobie fishing kayaks. I’ve modified it by adding higher risers, a plywood floor and wire sides to haul more of the stuff that needs to go out with the kayaks. Even with the extra additions, kayaks, and stuff, it’s still light enough to easily move around by hand. (60+woman here) Pulls behind my little Chevy Trailblazer with no fuss.

by:

The trailer works great! Very easy to u se.

by:

Lightweight durable trailer…perfect for us as we are no longer able to lift our kayaks on to our roof rack. Highly recommend!!

by:

The trailer is outstanding. The customer service and sells staff are easy to contact and are very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. The only thing that needs improvement are the assembly instructions. The images are blurry and confusing (not a deal breaker). I highly recommend doing business with this company.

I can definitely help and point you in the right direction. I recommend going with the Malone EcoLight # MAL63FR since it will have the smallest footprint out of the other Malone trailers you mentioned. You would just need one of the Stacker kayak carriers # TH830 for 4 kayaks. You will need some additional bow/stern tie downs though such as # Y04031.
