Video Transcript for Malone QuickLash T-Style Bow and Stern Tie-Down Hood Loops Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Malone Quick Latch T-style hood loops for bow and stern tie-downs, part number MPG308. So once you have your kayak in place and you have it strapped down to the roof rack system, you do need bow and stern tie-downs for each end. However, if you don't have any tie-down points underneath or you don't have a hitch in installed in the back, one of the options you can utilize is the quick latch hood loop. So pretty much what these do is create tie-down points for the hooks of your bow and stern tie-downs and they have an end cap on the inside which is closed inside your hatch of your hood or the hatch of your trunk while you tie these down. The end caps are made from a polypropylene and are injection molded to this T-shape for superior fit and durability. This has a load capacity of 150 pounds, come in a quantity of two, and has a one year warranty. When comparing this to other products, two that come up are going to be the Rhino-Rack anchor strap, part number RRRBAS and the Thule Quick Lubes, part number TH530.As far as the most economical choice, that's going to go to the Malone. As far as quantity is concerned, that's going to go to both the Malone and the Thule as it comes with two hood loops or two loops with the Rhino-Rack strap only coming with one.As far as durability is concerned, that's going to go to the Malone as it's made from a harder material. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's go ahead and show you how they work. We have our two hood loops here on our table.

This is pretty much what you're goin got get with the kit once you buy it.First, to install these, at least for our front portion of our tie-down, we're going to have to pop the hood open. With our hood open we have to find a good spot for our quick lash to set into place. We found that this area here will work just as long as it's in a spot where it's not going to get crushed by the hood.So with that in place we can now close our hood and our front quick lash is installed. Now we'll do the same at the rear. Again, making sure we're to putting it directly on the hatch, set it inside and we'll close our hatch on it and now we have our tie-down here as well. With everything in place, now we can attach our bow and stern tie-downs with no problem.

And there you have it for the Malone quick lash T-style hood loops for bow and stern tie-downs, part number MPG308.

I had no good place to tie down the bow of my kayak when mounted on my Suburban. The Malone QuickLash T-Style Hood Loops fit perfectly under my hood and showed no signs of weakness!

by:

Perfect for vehicles with no convenient front/rear line anchors.

by:

The tie downs are fine. I like the inflatable roof rack for transporting my kayak, but take it off your car if it’s going to rain, because the rain flows down the straps and inside the car!

by:

Hi haven't had a chance to use them the roof rack I ordered from you arrived damaged & I'm waiting for a update the anchors look very durable & I can't wait to use them!

by:

e.trailer as always is a great place to get boating accessories, including kayaking and canoeing, and I go there first before REI or other websites. Website and transactions are excellent, and shipping is fast. The online email included a PDF and two UTube videos of how to use my hood tie downs.
This show some real thought to after purchase help for customers.

by:

The T-Style hood loops work excellently and are easy to use. Would recommend for piece of mind so that you don't need to tie down the kayak to metal under the car hood.

by:

I have had these for 1 year now and have used them several times. They have worked exactly as advertised. Keeps my kayaks secure and once you have the process of mounting down it is pretty easy. Nice product.

by:

Exactly what I needed to attach a bow tie down for my kayak. (My car's front tie-down loops were unfortunately removed, so I really needed something like this. Solid material, super secure.

by:

So far so good. Product is easy to set up and instructions are easy to understand. Mounted on a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek with OEM crossbars. It feels sturdy and durable. I like the folding feature easy to raise and lower.

by:

These are great. New Toyota Highlander has no hooks for tie down. They really work very well and are easy to put on and off.

by:

Not used them yet but they are great to tie down boats to vehicles!

by:

Great, easy way to secure my kayak. I have nothing to easily tie off to in the front of my vehicle, so being able to just close the hood on this and tie off to it is a great convenience.

by:

Works great in 2019 Subaru Crosstrek

by:

I can now load my 14' tandem kayak by myself. Excellent product.

by:

worked well and keep the kayaks safe when driving on the highway.

by:

It's doing the job of securing my kayak to my prius that doesn't have front or back hooks.

by:

Very useful for both SUV hood and back hatch.

by:

Very simple to use. No need to look for hooks under the car anymore

by:

Excellent product selection and customer service. Speedy delivery and follow up.

by:

worked as promised

by:

by:

Better than the Thule quick loops which are more then twice the price. I tried those as well.

by:

  • Can Thule Hull-A-Port and Force XT Roof Box Both Fit on 60 Inch AeroBlade Load Bars
The Thule Hull-A-Port # TH834 and the 16 cubic foot Force XT will fit on the 60 inch AeroBlades. The Force XT is 33 inches wide and the Hull-A-Port takes up at most about 18 inches. To mount the Hull-A-Port to the AeroBlade bars you'll need the watersports adapter, part # THXADAPT11. You also may be interested in the Malone QuickLash T-Stlye Hood Loops # MPG308 to make it easier to anchor the bow and stern tie-downs onto the Jeep.

  • Carrier for 2 Kayaks on 2019 Subaru Crosstrek with Factory Roof Rack
It's likely going to fit just fine but I checked with Thule and they haven't tested the Hull-A-Port XT on the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek as of yet so I can't say with certainty. It does fit the 2018 and the 2019 is the same generation so that's a good sign. A similar kayak carrier is the Yakima JayLow, part # Y04073. It is confirmed, by Yakima, to fit the 2019 Crosstrek and will also carry both your kayaks. I've linked videos on both of the carriers. With either of them I recommend adding...

  • Roof Rack For 2012 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Cab For Carrying Canoe
While the Yakima rack and tonneau adapter won't fit the standard Yakima rails on an American Roll cover on your 2012 Ford F-150 SuperCrew, what you can do is add a roof rack to your truck along with a canoe carrier. The best option for this is from Rhino-Rack because it is the best overall value for a roof rack; Rhino-Rack's quality is equal to similar brands, but at a better price point because you aren't paying extra for a specific brand name printed on the crossbars. • Where Can the Bow and Stern on a Kayak be Tied Down to On a 2010 Ford Mustang GT
Yes, I can help you out no problem. You can use the Malone T-Style Hood Loops, # MPG308. Close the cylinder part in the trunk or hood (or both) and leave the strap part sticking out. Instant tie down point and they will not damage your 2010 Ford Mustang GT. I have included a link to a video review of these Quick Loops for you.

  • Securing the Bow of a Kayak or Canoe on a Ford Edge
Securing the front tie down for a kayak or canoe under the hood is common. Thule offers the Hood Loops, # TH529, and Malone offers an easier set of Loops, # MPG308, so you do not have to attach the hook directly to the edge of the hood. I would strongly recommend using these products. You can also use them for your rear hatch if you do not have a strong attachment point for the stern tie down. I have attached a demonstration video for you to check out.

  • Kayak Carrier for 2016 Honda CR-V with OEM Roof Rack Crossbars
You are correct. For your factory crossbars on the CR-V you can use foam blocks like the Malone Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs - Foam Block Style - 12" Long # MPG154 which will give you the components you need to secure the kayak as well. For a better hold, I recommend using a J-style carrier with your factory bars like the Swagman Contour Rooftop Kayak Carrier System with Tie-Downs - Fixed Arms - J-Style - Universal Mount # S65148. This is much better if you will be doing highway driving...

Curt recommends using the stabilization strap, # 18050, or something similar, for all non-trailer loads with trailer hitch # C13144. There is no specific place the strap has to go. Ideally you will want the strap end that is attached to the vehicle to be higher than where it is attached to the bike rack. Because you have that rear spoiler the hook will most likely not be able to fit right at the top of the hatch on your 2014 Subaru Forester. To get around that you can use Malone hood loops...

I may have an option that will work for you, however, I do not recommend carrying the canoe on the bare roof of your 2008 Toyota Corolla. Most vehicles cannot handle more than 50 lbs directly on top of the roof. Instead, I recommend adding a roof rack like the Yakima BaseLine Tower Roof Rack which consists of the following parts. 48 Inch Round Crossbars # Y00408 BaseLine Towers # Y28TR RoundBar Adapter # Y03536 BaseClip Fit Kits # Y06136 and # Y06148 Yakima states that this roof rack...

The Rhino-Rack Roof Rack # RRRS472B that you referenced is a confirmed fit for your 2008 Volvo S60 and has a weight capacity of 165 lbs. I found an owner's manual online that put your roof weight capacity at 220 lbs so the roof rack will be the limiting factor, but you will want to check your owner's manual to make sure. I spoke with my contact at Thule and he confirmed that The Stacker requires the Xadapt3 bolts for your Xterra. The Surfboard/SUP carrier does include the tiedowns for securing the kayak to the racks, but not a bow or stern kit. All you'll really need is a kayak carrier that attaches to the crossbars. Athough the etrailer brand # e98878 carrier is a fine product, you'll need two of them to handle both your kayaks. You will likely be able to use just one set of tie downs for 2 kayaks and the Thule Stacker # TH830. Ultimately though it depends on the length of the vehicle. Longer vehicles require longer tie down straps. But on your 2015 Subaru Outback I do not anticipate there being an issue. Especially if you use Hood Loops # MPG308.
