Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 78117. This is the Hopkins trailer connector adapter with Nite-Glow LEDs. This is going to convert your 7-way RV style connector to a standard 4-wire flat vehicle end connector. It's going to let you tow a trailer with a 4-way flat plug. That's going to be the plug here on this side. It's going to have a nice dust cap that protects the connection points from any type of rust or corrosion and from the elements.
When it's not in use, you simply just place the dust cap back over top. This system's going to connect the ground, left turn, right turn and stop circuits. Again, it's going to let you tow a trailer with a 4-way flat plug. It will adapt any RV style 7-blade plug. Now this unit is going to be made from a durable corrosion resistant construction. Located on the inside are going to be the Nite-Glow LED system.
That's going to make the connector easier to see at night. The LEDs are going to be activated by your vehicle's tail light circuit. The LEDs are going to appear red because of the red clear housing. We're going to take a measurement of the overall length measuring from edge to edge. It looks like that's going to give us a measurement of about 3-3/4 of an inch. I'm going to go and connect some power to this so you can see what the LED system looks like.
We'll simply just make our connections here. I'm going to turn off the lights so you can get a better view of it since this is for low light settings. You can see there that it sends out a nice consistent signal. The clear lens allows a lot of light to come through so it's going to make the plug easier to see in low light conditions and it can definitely help make the connection a little bit easier to make. Product works as advertised and allows me to plug into my more reliable weather sealed RV plug to power my trailer lights. The only downside is that I will need to get an extension to reach the plugs on some of my trailers. Overall, however, a removable adapter is a good solution to chronically corroded flat four connectors that hang on the back of my truck in tough Upper Michigan winters with heavily salted roads.
The product works but I found that when dealing with a difficult truck plug, the black inner part of the adapter likes to push into itself. This seems to be due to the outter red case being too soft and pliable. Needs to be a harder plastic and the use of screw ot two might help keep it in place
Didn’t work properly didn’t help trailer brakes engaging and yes I do have a brake controller

Adapter fits great, lights up when plugged in, helped out when I was rewiring the truck trailer harness.
It still works great. the dust protector is still attached and the led light still lights up.
