This wheel is designed to be used in dual-wheel setups. The 5.5" offset allows the wheel to be positioned closer to the trailer frame when used as the inner wheel of the setup. And if you use this wheel in the outer position, the offset ensures that it will sit closer to the outside of your trailer.
This wheel is hub piloted, which means that it centers on the hub, not the lugs. The wheel requires the use of flange nuts (sold separately) for installation.
Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.
Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Let's take a look together at this Westlake 215/75R17.5 load range J radial tire with this 17 1/2 inch black dual steel wheel with an 8 X 275 millimeter bolt pattern. Now, this tire and wheel assembly is going to be ideal for dually trucks, buses, and trailers, and the wheel offset is going to allow this assembly to be used as either the inner or outer wheel of a dual-wheel setup. This radial tire is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester plies for a long life. The nylon tread firming belt overlays are going to help prevent tread separation and the tread wear indicator is going to make it easy to actually see the tread depth. Now as I mentioned at the beginning of our time together, and as we have stamped here on our tire, this is a 215/75R17.5 tire.
This is a load range J tire, meaning it has an 18-ply rating. The maximum load on a single tire is 4,805 pounds at 123 PSI and a dual tire is 4,540 pounds at 123 PSI. This has a speed rating of L, indicating a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour. And this heavy duty steel wheel features four handholds, holes rather, and I would like to show them to you. I'm gonna flip this around, you can see it a little bit easier.
So one, two, three, four hand holes there. And the wheel has a capacity of 6,200 pounds. And this wheel does have a high offset, as I mentioned. So this is going to allow for this assembly to be used as either an inner wheel or an outer wheel. So you have it in this orientation, you would use it as an inner wheel set up, and then in this orientation, an outer wheel setup.
And the offset is either a positive or a negative 5.59 inches. And this steel wheel is sturdy, it's corrosion resistant. It does feature a rust resistant finish that includes an eco primer and a black powder coat on both sides of the wheel. And this is a hub-piloted wheel, which means it will center on the hub of the axle, not on the lugs. The pilot hole diameter is 8.7 inches, and this does require the use of flange nuts for installation.
We do sell those separately here at etrailer.com. This does use a wheel lug size of 5/8 of an inch by 18 flange nut. The metal valve is installed, again, probably easier for you to see it from this orientation there. And just to go over the dimensions of our wheel here, measuring inside to inside, or bead seat to beat seat, where the at tire actually is going to sit on that wheel, this is gonna have a diameter of 17 1/2 inches. And then again, the width of this wheel, the inside width where that tire sits inside of that wheel, that width is 6 3/4 inches wide. And our bolt pattern is 8 X 275 millimeters. And in case you don't know, the first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes, but then the second number is the diameter of the circle on which these bolt holes sit. So to determine the bolt circle diameter on wheels with an even number of bolt holes as we have here, you're simply going to measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole directly across from it. This wheel does meet SAE J1204 standards. And one final note, this tire and wheel assembly does come with complimentary roadside assistance for two years.
