This wheel is designed to be used in dual-wheel setups. The 5.5" offset allows the wheel to be positioned closer to the trailer frame when used as the inner wheel of the setup. And if you use this wheel in the outer position, the offset ensures that it will sit closer to the outside of your trailer.
This wheel is hub piloted, which means that it centers on the hub, not the lugs. The wheel requires the use of flange nuts (sold separately) for installation.
Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.
Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Let's take a look together at this Westlake 215 75R 17.5 Load Range J Radial Tire with a 17 and a half inch black dual steel wheel with an eight on six and a half inch bolt pattern. Now this tire and wheel assembly is going to be ideal for your dually trucks, buses, and trailers. And the wheel offset is going to allow this assembly to be used as either the inner or outer wheel of a dual wheel setup. More on that in just the next minute or so.
And this radial tire is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester plies for a long life. The nylon tread firming belt overlays are gonna help prevent tread separation and the tread wear indicator is going to make it easy to see tread depth. Now, as I mentioned and as we have stamped here on our tire, this is a 215 75R 17.5 tire. It has a load range J, meaning it has an 18 ply rating and the maximum load on a single tire is 4,805 pounds at 123 PSI. And a dual tire is 4,540 pounds at 123 PSI.
This has a speed rating of L indicating the maximum speed of 75 miles per hour. And this heavy duty steel wheel features two hand holes. So let me show you that. So you got one hand hole and one hand hole there. There you go.
You can see it there on the inside. So those are included on the wheel. And the wheel itself has a capacity of 6,200 pounds. And this wheel does have a high offset, so this is going to allow for this wheel to be used as either an inner wheel in this orientation or an outer wheel in this position on a dual wheel setup. And the offset is either a positive or negative 5.59 inches.
Now this steel wheel is sturdy and corrosion resistant. It features a rust resistant finish that includes an E-coat primer and a black powder coat on both sides of the wheel as you saw. And this is a hub piloted wheel, which means it will center on the hub of the axle, not on the lugs. And the pilot hole diameter is 4.76 inches. And this does require the use of flange nuts for installation. We do sell these separately on our website. This does use a wheel lug size of 5/8 of an inch by 18 flange nut. A metal valve is also included and installed. Let me see if I can show that to you. Hopefully you can see that right there. And then let me give you the dimensions of this wheel. So looking at the diameter first, measuring inside to inside where the tire actually meets the wheel, that diameter is 17 and a half inches. And then the width, again measuring inside to inside on that wheel where the tire sits into it, is going to be six and three quarters inches wide. And this does have a bolt pattern of eight on six and a half inches. And in case you don't know, the first number of the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. And then the second number is the diameter in inches of the circle on which these bolt holes sit. So to determine the bolt circle diameter on wheels with an even number of bolt holes as we have here, you're simply going to measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. This wheel does meet SAE-J124 standards. And one final note, this tire and wheel assembly does come with complimentary roadside assistance for two years.
