Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.
Determining the Bolt Pattern
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Hi everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a brief look at this Kenda Carrier ST235/80R16 Load Range G Radial Trailer Tire with a 16" aluminum wheel with an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. This tire and wheel assembly is gonna be great for your boat trailers, stock trailers, utility trailers and campers. This special trailer tire or ST tire has sturdy sidewalls so that it can handle heavy loads. It is created specifically for trailers and not intended for use on other vehicles. As you know, radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway and this radial tire is constructed with double steel belts and full nylon ply that combine for superior function and long life.
The computer generated tread design and premium rubber compound materials are gonna give you superior traction in wet or dry conditions. Now as I mentioned, this tire, as we see stamped here is an ST235/80R16, and the section width is 9.2" and the outer diameter is 30.7". This is a load range G tire, meaning it has a 14 ply rating. The maximum load is 4,080 pounds at 110 PSI. And this has a speed rating of L, indicating a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour.
The gun metal gray aluminum wheel is durable. It's lightweight and rust proof. It features this open spoke design that's unique and appealing and the clear coat finish on the front and on the back of this wheel is gonna protect it from scuffs and scratches. And something else that I wanted to point out is that inside of the lug wells, there are steel inserts. It's gonna help keep this wheel securely in place on your trailer hub, preventing the holes from wearing down and eliminating the need for the constant re-tightening of the lug nuts.
Now the dimensions of this wheel, looking at the diameter first, measuring from bead seat to bead seat is 16" and the width of this wheel is 6". And as we stated, the bolt pattern is 8 on 6-1/2", and in case you don't know, the first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes and the second number is the diameter in inches of the circle on which the bolt holes sit. So to determine the bolt circle diameter on wheels with an even number of bolt holes as we have here, you're just going to measure from the center of one bolt hole to the bolt hole directly across and that will give you that measurement. The the capacity of this wheel is 4,400 pounds. The wheel stud size is 1/2" by 20, the center cap is sold separately, but if you decide to pick one up, you just need to make sure that it fits the pilot diameter of 4.90".

Swapped out the steelies and low speed tires the trailer came with for the lighter aluminum wheels with higher speed tires. They tow great behind the sidecar and look a treat.
Really happy with my tire/wheel package upgrade. Replaced the factory grey spokes and tires from 2007 when the original tires finally failed. The wheels were covered in rust from the salt up here. Only towed the trailer about 100 miles since the install but it tows soooooo smooth and looks pretty dang good.
I inadvertently stepped up an inch in tire size when I got the 15” wheels up from the factory 14” because “I know what I’m doing” but the clearance doesn’t seem to be an issue thankfully.
I thought it was just a bigger wheel. Lol
Wheels/tires set are as advertised and shipped in reasonable time. Good quality.
Just received 2 of them today and they look great especially for the price. They should be a nice upgrade to the factory rims and tires on my double jetski trailer
I upgraded my 15’ jon boat trailer wheels to these radial load range D, replacing the bias ply load range B. I couldn’t be more pleased, not only do they look great, but with the extra weight I put in the boat I have peace of mind knowing it’s rolling on better rubber. I also ordered a spare tire mount and now have.a spare using one of the original tires.
Got these to replace the cheap pizza cutter tires that came with my Sea Doos. So much better and look great! Feel much safer towing with these tires compared to the other ones. Super fast shipping and excellent packaging. Got new lug nuts and center caps as well. Love etrailer!

I replaced my six year old galvanized rims and bias tires for these aluminum rims and radial higher quality tires. They look great on the Jon boat trailer. Now I can use the old ones that still look new for spares. I went up two tire sizes from the original painted rims and tires which makes the trailer ride much better. The only reason I did not give it five stars is the tires were 18 months old off the shelf.
I built my" tool shed" on a Triton aluminum trailer. I wanted doors on three sides. I do a lot of volunteer work at a Bible camp and it involves hauling my tools to the job. The trailer had 12x 4 inch wheels and I wanted something I more substantial to carry the load. I ordered the wheels and tires from etrailer. They came on time and we're exactly what I wanted. This is such a great upgrade from the small bias tire. It travels so nice on the freeway. The aluminum rim looks so much better. I definitely recommend to buy the extended Lugnuts. The standard Lugnuts do not have enough grip on them to tighten.
Very good customer service. The tires and mounting was spot on. Only small complaint would be the center cup insert does not lock in place. It will flop around a small amount. Easy solution is to put a small amount of clear silicone adhesive around the the cup and press the cup in place. Otherwise so far zero issues and the tires appear to be wearing well and have good side traction for our heavy 5th wheel in the rain. Highly recommend this combo. They look great on an older trailer.
Very nice tire and wheel combo. Used to replace and upgraded on my Jayco Qwest Pop-up. Only compliant and VERY minor one, I spent more time removing stickers and labels from the wheels & tires than it took time to mount them :-) but overall highly recommended !!!
My 1st Jon Boat, transformed it from a dingy Ugly Green to what you see now, custom 3 phase paint and custom built decking and carpeting, added Garmin ECHOMAP UHD, painted the trailer and needed the get rid of the worn out Bias-Ply Tires that originally came with the boat when I purchased it. Decided to purchase the 12 inch Kenda tire and 12 inch aluminum HWT Wheel from etrailer I had a very good experience with the live rep over the phone while processing my order. I was in need of tires for my double jet ski trailer. This trailer gets a lot of miles out on it so I was interested in switching to radial tires and while I was at it, I figured I’d upgrade the wheels as well. This wheel/tire combo fit the trailer perfectly and is a nice cosmetic upgrade from the original white wheels it came with.

Upgraded my old and cracked 8-5.70 Bias Tires to these 12" Radial Tires with Aluminum Rims. Made the Jon Boat look great!!! Like the 81 MPH speed rating on these radials vs. the 62 MPH rating on the old bias ply's. Now ready for the highway racing to catch them Big Ole Bass!!!
