Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

My order was processed and delivered just as the company stated it would. I was very surprised the two tires I ordered for my utility trailer arrived at my door step with two days of placing the order. The cost for each tire was better than many other companies I researched. The tires were exactly what I was looking for. Great product. Great services. Great company!

by:

These tires work as expected. I was not able to mount them myself at home (I mount my own motorcycle tires), but a local tire shop handled that just fine for a small fee. I trailer my bikes to race tracks, and have had no issues with these, wet or dry roads. Of course, I'm not flying along when pulling a trailer.

Still working fine.

by:

Don’t have them mounted yet but they look as described and I see no blemishes.

by:

This is a replacement to be used as a spare tire for the trailer. It came a bit malformed and I am hoping it comes back to form after mounting.

by:

Installed on a utility trailer that i tow on highway trips of as bout 400 miles one way. These tires are wearing evenly andhave performed well.

by:

Great pricing and great quality.

Working just fine

Great tires at a great price

by:

Great tires I have using this brand for five years.

by:

Exact match to what I had

by:

I have been a long time customer of your company and everything went well, well organized website very professional. This time I think I feel liked I ordered not from etrailer. The tire that I got was not damaged in shipping but was shipped to me even 1. It was damaged in storage 2. The production date of the tire was 7week of 2021 which is now 3 years old 3. The tire is deformed

by:

We never used the tires What we received were damaged and defective tires. When we called in it took several tries to get through .We informed the person on the phone the tires were messed up and unmount able the person "helping us" offered to let us return them but we were going to have to pay the 150 plus in shipping . I had to reiterate again the tires were messed up providing further detail describing the twine imbedded cutting the bead assembly and the defective uneven edges on the bead assembly . We then were made to send pictures via email .When they received the pictures they then called back sent us the shipping labels and have told us there won't be any charge to us for the shipping return. I drove a total of 2 hours to our nearest UPS and had to unload and carry through a parking lot 136 pounds of tire boxes into a store to send them back. After this horrible experience I hope they check the products they are shipping prior because these are very obvious defects even a novice could see

by:

Sent mis matched tires with different tread patterns. Replacing both tires on my trailer and they should both be the same. How hard is it to send two tires just alike? Very disappointing. I will be returning them.

by:

All 4 taskmaster trailer tires (2 from etrailer .com, and 2 replacements directly from the manufacturer) all have cracking on the sidewalls of the tires and cracking /separation where the tread meets the sidewall with only 20 miles on the tires, on a small utility trailer with only a walk behind snowblower on the trailer.. I am out the cost of 2 tires, plus mounting and unmounting costs totaling $50. etrailer.com will not refund because it is now just past the 60 day return window with all this BS.

by:

Great service and the tire arrived earlier than I expected. The only thing was that the tire arrived in the box collapsed or smashed. Tire installer had to expand the tire first to mount which took some extra time.

by:

Overall I am happy with my purchase of these tires. I wanted the higher highway speed rating (M 81 mph) and that is what I got. I rate my satisfaction at 85%. Happy with cost. Happy with quicknest of filling my order and arrival time of the tires. A little less than 100% happy because the tires are already a year old (DOT 2619). That's one less year that the comfort zone of a six year tire. I understand LIFO and I can live with it.

by:

Right size and rated for 81 mph (printed on tire). I would have given higher rating except that these tires are so smushed flat that they were hard for the tire shop to get seated on the rim and sealed. Other reviews have said the same thing.

by:

I have had these tires on a P/U camper for a year now and I am very satisfied. I have pulled it to Co. from Tx. and have had now issues with them. I like the fact that they are rated at 81MPH and can be pulled safely at 70 to 75 MPH. When purchasing tires it is important that you find a tire to that will preform. You can find tires in this size cheaper at big box stores but you will not have the peace of mind you have with this tire from etrailer. This is the second set of tires that I purchased from etrailer in this load range and speed range. I use my P/U camper a lot. I will continue to purchase from etrailer. I have had no problems with delivery or costumer service. They say what they do and do what they say.

by:

After 1 year these tires are and have held up great. I put them on a little homemade trailer. It takes a beating and I don't ride slow with it. Highly recommend

by:

Quick and simple ordering process; I chose free shipping, thinking I'd get this pair of tires in 2 weeks, but they arrived in 6 days and it was easy to check their progress from halfway across the country. As for the tires: these are an exact match for those that came with my dual axle trailer, which we are using for timber and milling work in the Midwest--some 1500 miles away, so these bias ply tires have seen a load of interstate miles--currently 22,000-- as well as off-road timber work, and they have held up well. My trailer manufacturer has moved to radial tires (supposedly better for the highway), but I was pleased to find these priced right at etrailer. Class operation; will order from them again.

by:

Tires were folded wrong in shipping and made it very hard to mount

by:

They are alright in my book. They held up to decently high loads and they have good treadware. I put 40,000 miles on them and only had 2 flats dude to nails. Still have yet to ware one out all the way. They only thing I would like better is on one of my tires had some belting show before I even put it on. It was molded far offcenter and inside the tread valley you could see the nylon

by:

At the time of this review the tires have about 900 miles on them. Most of the miles in the 60-70mph range. Purchased these tires for the 81mph speed rating. The 90psi air pressure usually has to be checked and some air added every few weeks.
Over all the tires seem to be very good tires thus far. The previous tires had 7+ years
of service. I am hoping these tires do as well.

by:

After one year of use I probably have 3000 miles on these jet ski trailer tires. They were the highest speed rated Tire of the size I could find.

They have done well.

I remember being a little freaked out when I got them in the mail because three of them fit in a box the size of a small slim TV and they look like bicycle tires uninflated. spent an additional $40 having them professionally mounted at a local Goodyear dealer.

by:

Got these tires for their 81 MPH rating. After about 2000 miles a large patch of rubber separated from the tire. Two weeks later the tire on the other side did the same thing. The Taskmaster rep said I must have hit something that cut the tread but I think the tread separated from the inner ply. Two tires in two weeks with the same problem seems like more than coincidence. Luckily I noticed both holes before they blew out. The third tire of the set I bought from you will never be on the ground. I won't even trust it as a spare.

by:

The tires showed up compressed, and after two weeks of trying my best to make them fit on my rims I decided to give up, and accept deafeat. I believe this tire to be a good product I would just suggest if your in the market for an offroad tire be sure to buy the one that is already on the rim!

  • Trailer Tire Fender Well Clearance When Changing from Bias Ply Tires to Radial Tires
When changing out the exact same tire size of ST175/80D13, you won't have any size difference between a Bias ply Trailer Tire like # TTWTD17513C and a Radial tire like # TTWTRTM1758013C. They will have the same diameter of 24.02 inches and same width of 7 inches. It won't impact the fender clearances at all. They can have different load capacities, ply ratings, speed ratings, etc, but the size doesn't change. The biggest difference is the way the cords of the tire are run. Radials...

  • Recommended Radial Versus Bias Trailer Tires for Tandem Axle Trailer
When using trailer tires, you want all your tires to match so they will wear evenly and have the same traction. It is not recommended to use a mix of radial and bias tires. The radial tires are made differently from the bias tires, so they will absolutely wear differently and will also heat up differently when in use. The friction from contact with the ground will allow the bias tires to heat up more than the radial. Since you often go in the bush, you will want to determine if a bias...

  • Recommendation for Replacement B78-13 Trailer Tires on Wood-Mizer Sawmill Trailer
A ST175/80-13 size tire is the correct replacement size for your existing B78-13 size tire. We offer a number of tire and wheel combos, like # TA43RR, as well as tire only options, like # TTWTD17513C, in this tire size. For your 2,500 pound capacity, you can go with either a Load Range C or Load Range D tire. The Load Range C tires will each offer 1,360 pounds capacity at 50 psi, so 2 tires will provide 2,720 pounds capacity. Load Range D tires offer 1,610 pounds at 65 psi each, with...

  • What is the Difference Between a Bias and Radial Trailer Tire
The size of the two tires is the same but how they're constructed is what the R and the D identify. A 175/80 D13 tire, like # TTWTD17513C, is a bias tire which means the plies that the tire is constructed of crisscoross. Whereas a 175/80 R13 tire, like # TTWTRTM1758013C, is a radial tire and the plies "branch out" from a the center of the tire. Which is better for you depends on what you use the trailer for. A bias tire is generally better for agricultural use because it has a stiffer...

  • Speed Rating for ST175/80D13 Trailer Tires
Every trailer tire will have a specific speed rating listed by the manufacturer. This can vary within the same tire size and design depending on the model and brand so there is not a general max speed recommendation for a 175/80D13 trailer tire. The speed rating will be listed right on the tire's sidewall. When there isn't a rating listed then the max speed is presumed to be 65 mph. For an ST175/80D13 bias tire I recommend the Taskmaster # TTWTD17513C that features a speed rating of 81...

  • Where is DOT Number on Trailer Tire and How to Read It
What size tire do you have? There should be a 4 digit number on the tire after DOT. When reading the DOT number on your existing tire, you will want to look at the last four digits of the number (if there are more than 4), not necessarily the numbers or letters immediately following "DOT". There may be some letters and numbers between "DOT" and the date code. I recommend checking your tire again to see what the last four digits are of the DOT code. This should be four numbers, the first...

The Taskmaster TTT888 175/80D13 # TTWTD17513C you purchased need to be aired up to 50 PSI, and are rated for speeds up to 81 MPH so no issues going highway speeds. You can confirm this by checking the sidewall of the tire, as all of this information will be stamped there as well.
