Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Dexter 10-inch right hand electric trailer brake assembly for 3000 pound axles. It does fit the four bolt brake mounting flanges. Now, electric brakes are easy to install. They offer more user control than hydraulic brakes, and they require only an electric brake controller, which we do sell separately.
There's no actuator hydraulic lines necessary.Now, this kit will include the 10 inch by 1 1/2 inch passenger side electric trailer brake assembly. If you notice the brake shoes, they are lined with an automotive grade friction material, and that friction material is fully bonded. It's not riveted to the shoes, so it gives you a lot longer life, more braking torque.Now, this brake is a manual adjustment brake, requires periodic adjustment. You adjust it with this wheel down here. As you turn this wheel, it will let your brake shoes go in and out.
So, you adjust get to your application. To adjust them, there's two holes in the back. What's nice is, in the holes, they do include these adjuster plugs. These adjuster plugs will cover these access holes, helps keep dirt and grime out of your brake assembly and off the brake shoes.We mentioned, you can see it fits the four bolt brake mounting flange bolt pattern. The mounting nuts are included to install it.
This is made in the USA. Dimension is a 10 inch by 1 1/2 inch. When they mentioned those dimensions, the 10 inch is the diameter. That's measured from this side all the way over to this side. There's your 10 inch diameter.
For 1 1/2 inches, that's the width of the pad on the brake shoe. There's your 1 1/2 inch measurement.The weight capacity on this brake assembly is 1500 pounds. When you use one of these with one on the other side, it'll meet the axle rating of 3000 pounds. This is designed to use 10 inch drums. The wheel size used on this is 13 inch up to 15 inch. These are electric brakes, so if you notice in the back, they have these two green wires that come out, they do need to be connected. One goes to the brake feed. The other one goes to the ground. They're both green wires, so either wire can be used for either function.This is a right hand passenger side assembly. The way you can tell that, when you get a new assembly, of course, there'll be a sticker on it. It'll indicate that. If the sticker isn't on there, the easiest way to tell, you should look at the length of the pad on the shoe. The pad on this shoe goes from here to here. On this one is a lot shorter, goes from here to here. The shorter shoe is the primary shoe, and the primary shoe will always face the front of the trailer when you install it. If it's installed like that, that'll tell you that this is the right hand side passenger side assembly.That should do it for the review on the Dexter 10 inch right hand electric trailer brake assembly for 3000 pound axles. It fits the four bolt brake mounting flanges.
