The standard tread on these tires has solid, continuous ribs with very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. These tires are designed for use on trailers, so they don't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.
Rambler radials have double polyester cords and double steel belts. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.
Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Taskmaster Rambler st145r12 radial trailer tire, and this is in a load range D. Now this is a radial ply tire, which is great for highway use. It is designed to fit 12 inch diameter wheels. Now the tire size, which will always be stamped on the sidewall, right here, you can see st for special trailer, 145r12, the R means it's a radial tire.
Load range on this tire is at load range D, which means it's an eight ply rated tire, and the maximum load capacity is 1,230 pounds at 65 PSI. One other thing I do wanna mention is all the new trailer tires do come with a speed rating, and where they stamp that on the sidewalls, if you look right after the size here, you'll see the load index, and then you'll see a letter stamped after that. It's speed rating M. M stands for 81 miles per hour, so this tire does have a speed rating of 81 miles per hour. It does use double steel belts and double polyester cords combined for a nice long life, and they do use a nylon tread firming belt overlay around the tire to help prevent tread separation.
And if you look closely at the tread, it is a standard tread. It means it has a solid continuous rib with very few sipes or cuts that are put in the tire. Usually they'll put cuts in there to help increase better wet weather or bad weather traction, but these tires are designed for use on trailers, so they really don't require the level of traction that would be needed like on your vehicle that is doing braking or steering. The ST is a special trailer tire. It's designed to have the sturdy sidewall so they can handle heavy loads.
It is created specifically for trailers. It's not intended for use on other vehicles, and this tire does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation specifications, and it does exceed the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. But that should do it for the review on this Taskmaster Rambler st145r12 radial trailer tire in a load range D.
