Castle Rock Radials

Castle Rock Tread Close-Up

Unlike standard trailer tire tread, which has solid, continuous ribs, the tread on these Castle Rock radials has ribs with breaks. These breaks allow water to run off to the sides. The Castle Rock tread also has sipes. Siping is a process in which thin grooves (or sipes) are cut into the rubber of the tire. The grooves channel water away from the tread so that the tire makes better contact with the road. Both of these features greatly improve traction during wet, snowy, or icy conditions.

Castle Rock radials are constructed with double steel belts and double nylon cords. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Had a blowout while driving my enclosed trailer and this tire is the Perfect replacement tire

by:

Ordering process went smoothly.
Got
the tire to replace existing spare tire for enclosed trailer.

by:

It was super easy to find what I was looking for, and the fast free shipping was wonderful. The video review gives you peace of mind that you are ordering the right products. Thank you for making my shopping experience so enjoyable!

by:

Well this order is a replacement for the original tire with less than 5000 miles on it that has a busted band so that is why I cannot give it a top rating. I ordered this tire to match treads of my other tires.

by:

Arrived early and in good conditions.

by:

I needed a tire that matched the others already on my trailer. None of my local shops had it. This was an exact match. The price was competitive and the shipping was fast. Never have any complaints when I purchase from Etrailer.

by:

You have excellent customer service! You just don’t see that anymore. Tire came in 3 days with great email communication!

by:

I bought this tire to replace exactly the one that was on the trailer. I've found different manufacturers tires are not exactly the same size even though the numbers match. I had one tire on my dump trailer locking up when I applied the brakes. It was a different manufacturer and when comparing it was actually about a 1/2" smaller height wise. This is the exact tire that the rest of the tires on my trailer are and it has been working great. It is just a tire. Not to much t report on.

by:

Fast shipping and great packaging.

by:

Very efficient and prompt service. Easy to place order

by:

exactly what i ordered,great service

by:

New tire delivered promptly and great p rice.

by:

etrailer was the only place I could find to order a tire that matched the other three tires on my RV. Ordering was easy and the tire was delivered when they said it would be. The tire was delivered in a cardboard box with handles making it easy to move around. If I ever need another tire I would definitely use etrailer.com again.

by:

Matched others tires perfectly.
Very
quick delivery.

by:

Thank you. Very fast service!

by:

I had a blowout on my way home from Florida back to Texas on my travel trailer. Half way home and was glad had a spare. When I got back I called the local dealership and they referred me to etrailer.com because they couldn’t get it in stock from their supplier. Looked up on internet and found the exact match.
Ordered on Friday and arrived on Wednesday, even with a 3 day holiday. Easy process to order. They had in stock.
Happy with order.

by:

My review is not going to be based on the tire itself due to I ordered this it to replace the tire I blew. This review is going to be on etrailer.
This is the 2nd time I have ordered a product with etrailer. They are very professional and very knowledgeable about the products that they sell. They keep you informed about item being shipped. I will keep ordering from them.

by:

Received excellent service! Needed to get my travel trailer tire replaced in order to go on trip soon. Did not expect to get shipment so quick. Really appreciated it.

  • Number to Decode Trailer Tire Date
Are you asking for how to decode the date of your tire? A tire date code typically begins with the letters 'DOT', which indicates that the tire meets the minimum Department Of Transportation standards for tires sold in the US. The last 4 digits of the code should be all numbers, with the first two indicating which week of the year and the second two digits indicate the year the tire was constructed. For instance, if the last 4 digits were 4216, it would mean that the tire was manufactured...

The trailer tire I recommend for your 13" diameter x 5" wide trailer wheel is the Castle Rock ST185/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # LHCK105. This tire is designed to last, as evidenced by its 5-year warranty, and it has a deep 9/32" tread depth which means you are going to get plenty of grip for a longer amount of time than similar tires. The tire has a 1,710 lb capacity and a tread wear indicator so you can be confident in knowing exactly how much tread is left on the tires....

We do have the replacement tire you need, but unfortunately we do not carry a 13" x 5-1/2" wheel with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern that you need. It could be that you are measuring your wheel incorrectly. Make sure you are measuring from bead-seat to bead-seat within the outer lips of the wheel. I put a link to a video below for a Dexstar wheel where one of our installers shows how to measure your wheel. If you re-measure and find you actually have a 5" width, you can use something like the Aluminum...

We have the Kenda Karrier # AM10208 and the Castle Rock # LHCK105 which are both Load Range D (1,710 lbs at 65 psi) tires and the biggest difference is that the Kenda Karrier is rated for 81 mph while the Castle Rock is rated for 75 mph, so I recommend the Kenda just for the higher speed rating. • Will There Be a Difference In Handling Between a Bias and Radial Tire
There isn't a difference in handling between bias and radial trailer tires; bias tires are designed more for hauling heavier loads and won't flex as much on the side walls. The downside is they'll run a bit hotter than radial tires that are designed for long highway trips where heat can build up. For a smaller camper you really could go either way and won't experience a lack of handling. You can go with the # AM1ST79 which are a bias tire, or the # LHCK105 which are a radial tire. Both...

  • Can Tire Size 175/70-13 be Used on Trailer
The easy answer is that as long as there's an "ST" in front of the tire size it's going to be totally fine and safe to use on a camper trailer. That said, a 175/70-13 tire size is not a standard trailer size so most likely what you have is a passenger vehicle tire and you'd need to go with a trailer tire instead like the size you had on previously 185/80-13 like the # LHCK105 from Westlake which has a great tread design for traction, a higher speed rating, and comes with a warranty that...

  • Can You Upgrade ST175/80D13 Tires On Utility Trailer
In order to determine if you can upgrade tire sizes you'll need to measure for clearance. We recommend 3" on top and 1" inside the existing tire. If you have more than this then you can move up a size, the next largest would be a 185/80-13 such as the Castle Rock ST185/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire part # LHCK105 (24.6" Diameter x 7.2" Wide). If not it's best to stick with the same size you have such as the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1ST74 (24" Diameter x 6.6" Wide).

This will be .3 of an inch taller than what you have but will also fit same rim you have. If you are looking for a significant change in diameter though you'd need to replace the wheels and tires with the size 205/75-14 like # AM10235 for the tires and # AM20352 for the wheels, which would give you additional diameter of 2.2 inches.
