P2-Rated Lights
A P2-rated light produces a 45-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 90 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be seen straight on, but it cannot be seen clearly from the side. So this type of light can be used as either a side marker or a clearance light, but it cannot function as both. If you need both functions, then you must install 2 separate lights on your trailer - one as a front or rear clearance light and one as a side marker light.
Surface-Mount Light
Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Jeff: Hello everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this LED round trailer clearance or side marker light with the reflex reflector and the red lens. Now this is a small round trailer light, which will serve as either a clearance or side marker light. It is great for chassis applications. The outer ring here has a nice built in reflex reflector, which will eliminate the need for a separate reflector.
And the LED will make a great replacement for incandescent lights because it'll last fifty-times longer. They're more efficient because they'll provide brighter light with less power output, and of course no bulbs to replace no brittle filaments to break. It is in a nice durable polycarbonate base with an acrylic lens. It is a red lens over a red LED. It is compatible with twelve-volt DC systems.
And at the end of this video, I am going to hook this up to some twelve-volt power to show you how bright the light is.The slide is designed to mount on the surface of the trailer with the built-in flange. Now the hardware to install, this is not included, but it does include this foam gasket, which will help create a nice weather tight seal when you install it. You can see on the back, it does accept the industry standard two prong plug. It is a P two rated light. So produces a ninety-degree beam pattern.
And the slide is made in the USA. A few measurements on this. Overall diameter, from this side to this side, it'll be right at three and a half inches. Depth of it is right about one inch deep and the light face, which is the center portion where the LED is, it's going to be right at two and a half inches. Power draw at twelve volts on this slide is 0.06 amps.
Operating voltage range is nine volts to sixteen volts. So what we're going to do now, go ahead and hook up some power and we'll take our ground and we'll go ahead and hook up our ground. And with both of those hooked up I'll go ahead and turn on our twelve-volt power and you can see the LED light up. We'll go ahead and turn off the overhead light, and there's your bright LED light. The red lens, you can see as I hold it back, it gives you a ninety degree beam pattern so it is a P two rated light. Very bright light for one LED. Turn back on our overhead light, turn off our power, but that should do it for the review on the LED Brown trailer clearance or side marker light with the reflex reflector and the red lens.
