A PC-rated light produces a 90-degree angle of light to either side of its centerline for a total of 180 degrees of coverage. This beam pattern can be clearly seen when you are standing directly in front of the light, as well as when you are standing on either side of the light. When properly installed, this type of light can function as both a front clearance light and a side marker light or as a rear clearance light and side marker light.
Surface-mount trailer lights install using a flange or bracket with mounting holes. These lights lay flat against the trailer surface and only require a small, often pre-existing hole, for wiring. Mounting hardware is used to secure the light to the trailer.

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number 424400. This is the Peterson Vanguard II amber trailer clearance and side marker light. It's got the chrome plating. It's going to feature a molded nylon housing, so it's going to do a good job at resisting rust and corrosion. The bulb is going to sit in a Vibar socket; that's going to minimize premature bulb failure. It's going to contain one incandescent bulb, so it does conclude a 194 12-Volt, 2500 hour heavy duty bulb. Here on the back side you can see that it exposes the mounting holes. You're going to have a mount hole located right here, and then diagonally across you're going to have a mount hole down here.
So if we take a measurement, the distance that we have between our mounting holes just straight across we can see that's going to measure about 3-7/8" apart from one another. This is designed to be a surface mount installation. Your mounting hardware is not included. We have a single wire design. The light's designed to ground through the mounting hardware, so the black wire right here is going to be your power wire. It does come with a mounting gasket.
This is going to go between the back of the housing here and the mounting surface. The light is SAE and Department of Transportation compliant. We're going to look at the overall measurements real quick, starting with the overall length. That's going to give us a measurement of about 4-3/4" long. The overall width .. That's going to measure about 2-1/16", and then the depth, from back to front, is going to be about 1-3/8". We're going to go and hook it up to our external power source.
That way, you can see what it looks like with power running to it. We will connect our power wire, and then we'll make our ground. You can see here that the light sends out a nice, consistent signal. Again, it's going to have the amber lens, and this light is going to function as your side marker and clearance light. That's going to do it for today's look at part number 424400.

Everything working great. The LED tail lights really improved visibility from rear at night. Now just need an invention for back up lights!

Excellent. Bought a 30-year-old livestock trailer and replaced all the lights and added battery backup for the electric brakes. Did not want to convert to LED. As good as new.
