Video Transcript for Review of Flint Hill Goods Trailer Wiring - Hex Self Tapping Screw - FA1131822

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today I'm gonna take a look at this 1/4 inch by 14 by 3/4 inch long unslotted hex drive zinc finish self-drilling screw. This is for a quantity of one. Now if you notice, this is an unslotted hex washer head self-drilling screw, has a zinc coating for corrosion resistance, and this is great for use on grounding wires with a 1/4 inch diameter ring terminal. As we mentioned, the size on this is 1/4 inch by 14 by 3/4 inch long threads.

The overall length of this is 3/4 of an inch. The hex head size on this is 3/8 of an inch, and it is a steel construction with zinc-plated finish, and it is case hardened. But that should do it for the review on this 1/4 inch by 14 by 3/4 inch long unslotted hex drive zinc finish self-drilling screw.

Excellent product and fast service. Definitely will buy from them again for all my trailer needs.

Worked well on my boat trailer for mounting lights on metal frame. If you have never used self tapping metal screws the secret to making the process quick and easy is to drill a pilot hole just slightly smaller in diameter than the screw threads. If your drill bits are not the sharpest in the world another tip is to start with a smaller bit and then use successive larger bits until the hole is slightly smaller than the screw.

After one year of exposure to the elements an being in and out of water at boat ramps, and traveling some fairly rough roads to reach boat ramps, these fasteners are still securely in place.

Exactly what I needed to rewire a 20-year-old trailer that was starting to show it's age with inconsistent lighting performance and continuity issues. In addition to purchasing this lighting harness, I upgraded all my incandescent bulb side markers and taillights with LED units and complete rewired the trailer. etrailer had everything I needed in one place with excellent pricing and superb service. Everything is working great and I love the brightness and visibility of the LED lights.

Did the job of installing new jacks.

by:

Good for what it is, but note that these are too short to go through, say, tie-down racks then plywood sidewalls, and into the metal framing of a utility trailer. The picture does not really show the relative length of the threaded part and the drilling part for this length screw.

by:

Used 8 of these screws to attach two scissor jacks onto my pop-up frame. These worked just as expected

by:

I was worried that the screws might of been lost as the box the order came in was really beat up. But nope they were there.

by:

I am very happy with the quality of the products and the service! Most of all I want to compliment you on the instructional videos included in your websit. They are simple to follow, informative and answered several questions I had about the products and the installation. I will definitely be back when needed and highly recommend etrailer.com!!

by:

  • Self Tapping Screw Recommendation for Installing Exterior Light on Trailer
Self tapping screws like the part # WLS100 which has a Torx head or a part # FA1131822 which is a hex head style bolt would work well. We don't normally see people seal the lights to the trailer as most light assemblies are a weather proof or waterproof design and don't require it. For a sealant we recommend the # 0160297 for sealing trailer roof vents. This would work well for a light assembly as well.

  • Troubleshooting Pin Removal for Hitch Ball Change on Andersen Rapid Hitch Ball Mount
It sounds like the Rapid Hitch Adjustable Aluminum Ball Mount Kit - 2 Zinc Balls - 5-1/2" Drop, 6-1/2" Rise # AM3411 has dirt or debris binding the pin. Since this pin simply drops in place as you can see in the attached video, the best way to remove the pin is to use some penetrating oil around that pin and then using movement to allow the oil to find its way to the bound location. I recommend using a rubber mallet to give vibration and movement to the pin while trying to twist the hitch...

  • Correct Grounding Location for Halogen Docking Lights
Since the switch is lighting up, but the lights aren't coming on, it sounds like you have your power wires correct, but the problem is with the ground wire on your Halogen Docking Lights # DL-16CC. The black wire from the lights is the ground wire for the lights. There are a few ways you can go about grounding your lights. You could run a wire from each light's ground wire to the negative post on your battery, or ground it to the steel frame. You can use a ring terminal, like # DW05705-1,...

  • If Brake Wiring is Damaged do Trailer Brakes Need to be Changed Out
If it's just the wiring that has been damaged then you only need to replace the brake wires. We recommend using 10 Gauge Wire # 10-1-1 and Heat Shrink Butt Connectors # DW05745-5 for the installation. Electric brake assemblies have 2 wires; 1 for power and 1 for ground. It doesn't matter which wire on the brake assembly is used for which function. Should your ground connections be damaged as well then you can use the Ring Terminal # DW05740-1 for the ground wire and the Self-Tapping Screw...

  • Can Replacement Awning Fabric Be Secured With Screws Instead of Rivets
Yes, you can remove the rivets and use some self tapping screws to secure the # LCV000334398 and complete the installation. If you watch the video attached below starting at the 10 minute mark you will see where they used the # FA1131822 to finish installing the replacement fabric.

  • Recommended Trailer Connector and Wiring to Add 7-Way Trailer Connector to 4-Way for Reverse Lights
For your reverse lights on your boat trailer, I recommend you start with converting the 4-way you have into a 7-way trailer connector. I recommend the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector # 30717 for this. You will simply plug in your current 4-way and then connect the white wire with the ring terminal to your frame bare metal to metal using # FA1131822. Then you will connect the yellow wire of this adapter to the reverse light power at your tail light on one side of...

  • How to Ground a Trailer Light
I was not able to reference the tow smart light kits you are referring to but a trailer taillight will ground one of two ways. They can either ground using a single wire (usually white) or through the mounting hardware. If they ground using a single wire then that wire will need to be attached to a bare metal part of the trailer frame with a screw like part # FA1131822 and a ring terminal like part # DW05737-1. If there is any paint on the ground location then you will need to sand it down...

  • Trailer Warning Lights Flash in Vehicles Message Center
The trailer warning lights flashing in your message center sounds like either a ground issue on the trailer or a corrosion problem between the trailer connectors. I would first start off by disconnecting the trailer connectors and using a bit of electrical spray to clean the pins. Once done, I would also use a bit of dielectric grease like part # 11755 between the two connectors before mating them back together to prevent future problems. Before you move onto the trailer wiring, I also...

  • Trailer Fender Installation Clearance and Mounting Project
Thanks for the photo. Honestly 5 inches of clearance from the fender to the top of the tire is fine if that is what you desire. We normally recommend 4 inches to allow for the suspension travel whether with leaf springs or torsion axles to allow enough space so you won't have contact between your fender and the tire. Based on your photo it appears there is a bend in the fender, so I'd personally drop the fender down a little more which would relieve that binding. I'd adjust it to...

  • Troubleshooting Optronics Uni-Lite LED Clearance and Side Marker Light Not Coming On with Aux Switch
I recommend double checking your wiring for the lights. A load resistor will not be needed since the # MCL11CAKB lights are not blinking. A load resistor is designed for use when an LED is hyperflashing when used as a turn signal. You will want to run a wire from the positive terminal on the vehicle battery to the auxiliary switch, then from the switch to the first light, from the first light to the second lights, so on and so forth. The easiest way to connect all of the lights to a power...

  • Wiring Colors for Trailer 4-Way Connector/Wiring
4-way wiring is pretty simple and standard. The pin with the white wire running to it that is jacketed is the ground, the one next to it is going to be brown and for running light circuit, next to it is yellow and is left turn/stop circuit, and next to that is right turn/stop circuit and is green.

I would be happy to help you with some mounting instructions for the Optronics LED Clearance or Side Marker Trailer item # MCL0040ABB. The directions are extremely vague so I will walk you through the process. You will want to connect the white wire to the ground wire on your trailer and the yellow wire to the power source using a heat shrink butt connector item # 05731-5 to make a weather tight connection. Then remove the lens from the cover of the light to access the mounting holes on...

The first step for installing the Peak Backup Camera Part # PKCOBU7 would be to mount the rear-view camera somewhere inside the horse trailer. Using butt connectors such as # 05731-5 is probably the fastest way to connect wires. Using a heat shrink butt connector such as # DW05744-5 would be a better, longer lasting connection. The white ground wire will need to secure to the trailer frame using a self tapping screw like # FA1131822.

  • Trailer Lights Go Out When Headlights and Brake Pedal are Applied
The problem you described sounds like a ground issue. What I recommend doing is running the ground wire for each of the trailer lights (assuming they do not all ground through the mounting hardware) up to the ground used for the 4-way trailer connector. I would then reground the bundle of wires for the lights and connector to a new bare metal spot on the trailer frame using both a self tapping screw like part # FA1131822 and ring terminal like part # DW05762-1. The Curt bracket doesn't come with any hardware like the # 18144 but you can use some self tapping screws like the Self-Tapping Screw - 1/4" -14 x 3/4" Long - Zinc # FA1131822 to mount this to the fascia.

  • Bolt Size Needed For Mounting An etrailer Stabilizer Jack
The mounting holes of the Stabilizer Jack # TJ01RT are 7/16" in diameter so any bolt 1/32" smaller than that will fit the hole. The length is going to depend on your setup. The bolt thickness can be a bit smaller as long as the head of the bolt covers the 7/16" hole in the mounting plate. For example, you could use the Self-Tapping Screw # FA1131822 if you were just drilling directly into the frame.

  • How to Remove Old Stripped Screws from Trailer Baggage Door Catch
Your best bet is a special drill bit often called a screw extractor. One such product is called an EZ Out. These can be found at your local hardware store and are available in various sizes. There is no light kit specifically designed for the Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C18152, but we do have a solution that will work for you. You can use an LED light kit like part # 98174LED. You would then need two brackets, part # BK70BB. • Recommendation for Attaching Aluminum Diamond Plate Flooring to Utility Trailer
To attach the aluminum diamond plate to the floor of your utility trailer, you can use self-tapping screws like # FA1131822 or something longer depending on how thick the aluminum is. I recommend using one about every square foot if possible. These particular self-tapping screws are 1-1/4 inches long and have 1/4 inch - 14 x 3/4 inch long threads. If you will be attaching the diamond plate to the metal grate on your trailer, you will need some type of anchor or lag bolts.
