Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Suspension 126A1 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the 3 1/2" long Wet Equalizer Bolt with the Grease Zerk fitting, and the Castle Nut and Cotter Pin for double eye springs. Now this bolt will secure your equalizer to the center hanger of your tandem of triple axle trailer suspension system. The grease zerk fitting on this end allows for easy lubrication to keep any moving parts functioning properly. The zerk fitting right here will allow you to grease the inside of the bushing. Basically when you hook your grease can of to that and pump grease in it, it will come out of this hole. Again, it will lubricate the inside of the bushing.

Now, it does include the castle nut and the cotter pin, which is to lock the bolt in place on to the hanger. Few specs on this, the bolt is a grade 5 bolt. The overall length which would be measured from the bottom of the head to the very end is going to be right at 3 1/2". The bolt size is a 3/4" diameter, 16 threads per inch. The bolt head size and the nut size is going to be the same, it is 1 1/8". Screw that on and I can show you, here's a 1 1/8" socket.

Fits the head, and it fits the nut. That should do it for the review of the 3 1/2" long Wet Equalizer Bolt with the Grease Zerk fitting, and the Castle Nut, Cotter Pin for double eye springs.

This is an excellent product, but I gave it four stars because it was nearly impossible to install with ordinary tools. It was necessary to force the serrated portion into the center hanger and since I did not have access to power to run a compressor and force it into the hole using excess torque via an air wrench, I had to use a hammer to drive the serrated end into the hanger. I found an install video from etrailer that showed how the installation was to be done, but I could not accomplish it that way. Besides the amount of torque needed would probably have twisted the bolt off at the grease hole. As it was, I drove the part in with a 3# hammer after destroying ordinary white wood blocks of wood. I removed the grease zerk and used another piece of flat iron to protect the zerk's threads. I was able to bottom the head against the hanger by tightening the nut as much as I could by hand and then hitting the head with the hammer a few times, tighten again, etc., until it was completely in place.
This method was used on both sides of the trailer. To torque these into position with an ordinary wrench would have exceeded 1000 lbft of torque which I am not sure that these bolts would take without damaging them more than the hammering did.
To be fair, the information suggested that the hangers be replaced, but that was because many times the hangers are damaged if the other parts wore out. But it is fairly clear that the holes in the hangers are not pre-formed with matching serrations so I doubt that it would have changed the issue.
In short, I don't believe that the serrated portion is necessary. And if it is, then a keying method would be more appropriate, such as a square hole.

Other than cotter pin is way too small and had to add a couple washers so castle nut reached keeper hole a great product at a good price.

I installed these a my 2 horse trailer. Exact fit. Easy installation.

I am rebuilding my tandem axle utility trailer and the center shackle bolts were rusted tight. Upon removing them, they were also badly worn. I went into my local auto parts store and they didn't carry nor could they get through their suppliers the replacement size. Only place I could find the 3/4" zerked bolt was eTrailer.com. I ordered two, they arrived quickly and were the exact size I needed. They installed easily and are working great!

by:

Purchased replacement springs, equalizers, shackles and all the needed hardware to put it all together for my tandem axle boat trailer. While I was trying to figure out all the parts I needed on-line, I made a couple calls to etrailer's customer service and they were awesome! Parts arrived quickly and are exactly what I needed. I put together one of the spring / equalizer / spring set-ups and placed it on the trailer frame to confirm fit. Perfect! Looking forward to swapping all the parts out this weekend. And I'll be shopping with etrailer again soon to get a trailer hitch for my new Durango!
Thanks etrailer!

by:

Replacement parts were easy to find. They seemed to be better than factory parts, and were easy to install. They fixed an old horse trailer up that I thought would be hard to find parts for.

Really liked the zerk fittings on these. Should make for a durable suspension that lasts.

  • Availability of a Trailer Suspension Equalizer Kit With 6-1/4 Inch Long Equalizers
We don't offer a equalizer kit that incorporates the # TREQ458 you're needing, but you can obtain the necessary parts separately. We offer a 3/4 inch wet equalizer bolt as part # 126A1. 9/16 bushings with a OD of 11/16 is part # TRBU11566. If you need an OD of 7/8, use part # TRBU11568. You can see the shackle links and bolts we have available by clicking the provided link.

  • What Is Bolt Length Measurement On The Redline Wet Equalizer Bolt, # 126B2 And Are Bushings Needed
On the Redline Wet Equalizer Bolt, # 126B2, the length of 3 inches is not including the head. The overall length is 3-5/16 inches including the head. It is a 9/16 inches diameter bolt. I have the Redline Wet Equalizer Bolt, # 126A1, which has a length of 3-1/2 inches not including the head, but it is a 3/4 inch diameter bolt. Yes, the bushings on the equalizers are needed. They can wear out from excessive movement if the trailer is used more on bumpy roads. We carry the nylon bushings...

  • Does The Redline Wet Equalizer Bolt, # 126B2, Come In Different Lengths
I called the supplier (Redline) and they said the only wet bolt they offer in a 9/16 inch diameter is the Redline Wet Equalizer Bolt, # 126B2. The length of this bolt, not including the head of the bolt or the threads is 2-5/16 inches. The only other wet bolt we offer is the Redline Wet Equalizer Bolt, # 126A1, which is a 3-1/2 inches length with a 3/4 inches diameter.

We do not have any kits that have all the components with the dimensions you asked for. You can go a couple ways. You can choose to go with the kit you asked about, part # APT4, and then choose different shackle straps. You will need a quantity of 8 shackle straps. We do not have 3 inch shackle straps available. We do have part # TRSL313, that measures 3-1/8 inches center to center. The overall length is 4-3/8 inches. Or you can order the following components separately (2) 6-1/4 inch...

Grease would be better for marine applications since a hub full of grease repels water and an oil bath hub could just let the water set on top. The correct grease seal for disc brake kit # K2HR712D is # RG06-070. It does have an inner diameter of 2.25 inches and the outer diameter at 3.376 inches will fit the hub in the disc brake kit. • Determining Correct Replacement Leaf Spring For Trailer W/ 3000lb Axles and 27" Long Springs
The # SP-210275 you were looking at is for a 3500lb axle and is 27" long measured from center of spring eye to center of spring eye. This is the correct spring for your trailer based on the measurements you provided. The next shortest spring would be 2" shorter which would be much too short. For replacement equalizers we have the # TREQR89 which is 8" long and has a center hole of 9/16", or the # TREQR83 which is 9" long and has a 3/4" center hole. For replacement hardware you can use...

  • Additional Suspension Parts to Add an Axle to a Tandem Axle Trailer
The first thing I need to tell you is that mobile home axles are designed for one-time use only by the manufacturers. Because of this replacement parts are nearly impossible to find. • Can Wet Equalizer Bolts be Used if Splines are Worn Smooth
The splines on a shackle bolt are meant to help keep the bolt from rotating. Since the bolts are tightened with the nut it isn't too big of a deal if the bolt rotates some. The bolts that you took a picture of look like the nut is further secured in place with a cotter pin to keep the nut from coming loose. With this system it would take a lot of time and rough terrain and weather to cause everything to come apart. With that being said, your wet bolts do look like they have seen better...

Applying some grease like # L11316 to the nylon bushings on the TruRyde Straight Equalizer # TREQR83 is a good idea during installation, as it will both allow the shackle bolts to insert with greater ease and will provide good lubrication for the whole assembly. After the initial install it's recommended to lubricate the equalizers about once every 3 months or 3,000 miles.
