Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

2nd receiver hitch I purchased and installed from etrailer. Very satisfied both times. Their installation videos are the best.

2013 Ford Edge

Good product!....Good price! Put this on my Edge in under 45 minutes start to finish. Here are my tips: Go to YTube and watch a couple of eTrailer videos and you will know what you need to know. This particular hitch happens to balance right on the cradle of my hydraulic jack!....when it's time to bolt it up just roll the hitch under the car, adjust the height onto the bolts and BAM!.....all done.

by:
2013 Ford Edge

The product was ok and I did get it installed. The packing/shipping method is terrible. I don't think you should have to bend a brand new product back into the manufactured shape to be able to install it. I see by other reviews this is somewhat common. Maybe you need to review your packing/shipping methods!

Lincoln

I have been dealing with etrailer for many years and have never had a problem. I just ordered a hitch for my Lincoln, and it didn't fit. I called on a Sunday and talked with Diana. Diana said there were were two different hitches for my car that year. She said no problem, she sent the correct one out that day and gave me a prepaid tag to return the wrong one, no questions asked. They are a great company that stand behind there products if there's ever a problem. Great people to buy from. Thank you Diana for the quick turn around, you folks have my vote and my business!

Trailer hitch has been great. Fairly easy to install and have had no problema at all with it. This is a very good product.

by:
2014 Ford Edge

Perfect fit, hitch is well made. The install was straight forward with clear instructions and a helpful video. Fish wires for the attachment bolts and brackets were a bit challenging as was drilling the rear frame holes, but that was mostly due to installation being performed on my garage floor vice a shop lift. Total time as approximately 1 1/2 hours. Reasonable price, quick delivery, highly recommend.

The hitch is working fine. We use the receiver to attach a bike carrier and it is extremely stable and easily handles the load.

Reciver hitch arrived damaged ( bent). Shipping container was in good condition. Attached photos show one side ok, the other bent

That is definitely a bend in the side bracket. This happens from time to time when the hitches are shipped either to us or out to you. It can be corrected to be installed and there is an FAQ that can help. If not then Customer Service will be in contact with you.

2013 Ford Edge

Great product at a great price, shipped to my door in 5 days. Came with all required hardware and fish wires! Great instructional video. All combined makes me feel company cares about its customers.
I am average joe with NO LIFT. Backed vehicle up on 6x6's, DID NOT drop exhaust system, followed rest of directions. If you are doing it alon as I was, leaving the exhaust up did not make it harder but in fact helped! Product actually rested on top of exhaust dress up tips making it possible to attach one side and then move to the other. Exhaust was my extra person. Highly recommend.

Great

by:
2014 Ford Edge

Just completed my installation which took about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The hardest part was feeding the fish wires and pulling the spacers and bolts back through. Once I realized to put the spacer into the frame hole then to feed the bolt through, things sped back up on the installation. It was also nice to use existing holes in the frame which meant that I could not mess up the holes as well. I'm really proud of the installation and can't wait until I put the bike rack into it and take off with our 2 bikes attached securely. Thanks for the great product, easy installation guide and video.

The trailer hitch has been great. Now we are able to use a bike rack on my truck along with the wifes car. This hitch is sturdy and rides like a champ on the car. Glad that I purchased this hitch due to the easy installation the the great quality of the hitch.

by:
2011 Ford Edge

The hitch had a bend in it upon arrival. It was easy to get back into original shape.
The installation was not quite what I had expected based on the youtube video. In the video it appears the lead wires go to the side and then pull into place. On my vehicle the bolts are pulled from the rear of the car directly behind the behind the bumper. Since it will be exclusively for a bicycle rack I expect it will work just fine.
Installation took 90 minutes.

Good quality metal. Needed tow hitch for SUV I just purchased. Went on pretty easy. Video helped alot. My 2013 Ford Edge SEL has three exhaust hangers instead of just the two at back. Would have give five stars, but the hitch itself was bent slightly on one side. Had to do a little drilling out one of the holes to get it aligned. Other than that, it's a well make product.

Thanks for your review! Sounds like you encountered a common problem where the hitch gets flexed in shipping. I wanted to share a link to an article with tips and tricks to help straighten a flexed hitch for future reference.

Working great after a year. Ive used it at least ten times. Will surely outlast the vehicle!

by:

As others have commented one side was bent and needed to be straightened out after the initial fitting, other than that hiccup the install went well, followed the video and caught it knocked out in no time.

by:
2014 Ford Edge

I wanted to apply 1 star.

Unfortunately,
my item arrived damaged. I'm sure this could have been fixed with a replacement but I only realized the damage after beginning installation and test fitting the hitch. A huge inconvenience because my car was already jacked up with parts removed. Since the item was not properly packed and was instead shipped loose inside a oversized box one of the arms was bent inwards and did not properly align with my frame. Also, I don't feel I should have to wait for a new item because of poor attention to detail.

I was able to use help and a vice to push the hitch back into its proper placement. Still dissapointed in the quality shown from etrailer.

From time to time hitches will be flexed which means that side brackets have been knocked out of alignment. The hitches are shipped to us in large pallets and it can happen while in transit to us. You have already done what we have suggested by using a vise to help move the side bracket back into alignment. I am sorry for the inconvenience that it caused you.

by:

Fantastic hitch. Perfect fit for an 09 Edge. Installation was not difficult, but be prepared to have your patience tested a little. There will be tight and challenging places to drill and get the bolts into. Particularly is this true within the vehicle's unibody frame. While there are bolt stringers included, it's one of those types of jobs you can't get any body appendage into, yet need four arms and three hands to do. But it is made to fit, and fit it does. Would purchase again.

Well over a year and product is just fine. Thank you for the follow up!

by:

Service via chat was outstanding and they patiently helped me learn to read and follow directions. :-)

After learning to read in instructions, the hitch went onto my 2014 Ford Edge SE without a hitch (sorry). Added the large Curt 20 cuft carrier and a cargo bag and we were totally good to go from Houston to the Rockies. The installation videos on the etrailer website really helped sell me on the DIY route.

Two trips so far and I couldn't be happier. We have the cargo capacity of our old van but with much better handling and gas mileage. Even with the cargo bag fully loaded there is no interference with brake light or license plate visibility.

by:

This Class III receiver hitch was as advertised and easy to install, even on my garage floor without a hoist, just a floor jack and of course, jack stands for safety. I chose the e98870 because it hangs below the rear valence so I could attach my 7-way connector with a Curt 57202 no-drill clamp-on bracket. The video instruction is invaluable!

Ordered on Sunday evening, received on Friday by noon. Etrailer rocks!

by:

Installed this hitch receiver on my 2013 Ford Edge, took approximately 1 1/2 hours or so (plus an additional 1 1/2 hours for the wiring harness installation), the installation video provided by etrailer.com made the install really easy. The product itself is excellent quality and bolted directly to my vehicle without any major modifications needed. The shipping was fast and etrailer.com’s customer service is outstanding! I’m extremely happy with purchase and will definitely be recommending etrailer.com to my friends and family.

This is my 2nd etrailer hitch in 4 years. Your products and people just get better.

This one was like the last, another great fit and easy to install on my 2013 Lincoln MKX thanks to another excellent install training video.

Your customer service team were helpful and in the “tops” of any that I have recently encountered.

by:

Easy install. Looks clean and does not hang too far below the car like many of the available options.

by:
2014 Ford Edge

Took me three hours start to finish -- and that's with a bad knee and a dirty undercarriage on my car. 10 easy minutes of that was the minor straightening from shipping that many complain about, but it was very easy to do. Video instructions were great.

by:
2010 Ford Edge

The shipping was spectacular! Ordered this one night and it arrived the next day! Crazy fast! It fit perfectly as it should. I would make the “fishing wire” line maybe an inch longer, would have been helpful. Overall an easy assembly!

by:
2015 Ford Edge

EXCELLENT. The bolt fishing wires were extremely helpful. Zero complaints. took me about an hour and 15 minutes, dealer wanted 3 hours to start. and said a class 3 hitch didn't exist for the Edge.

Nicole was a great Help, followed up on a phone call to verify it had shipped. extremely satisfied.
pic had bike rail installed on e-trailer hitch, used to haul a lightweight vintage motorcycle this weekend. Thank you again.

2008 Ford Edge

Product looks good shipping was fast wiring harness for the 2008 Ford edge was a easy install the hicth was a bit more difficult very little room to put in the last bolt I plan to use it when when we go fish save on gas lol taking my taking the edge vs the f150 the only bad I have was that the wiring harness wasn't long enough to put the tape on also I run the wiring inside the car not out side

by:

The trailer hitch went on as advertised and flawlessly. I like the fact there are 6 bolt attaching the hitch verses 4 bolts which the other hitches.

  • Troubleshooting etrailer.com Hitch # e98870 Where Bolt Holes Dont Line Up with 2013 Ford Edge
Sometimes trailer hitches will get bent in shipping which causes the bolt holes not to line up when you go to install it. Due to the design of the mounting flanges on the # e98870 I suspect the issue is this. So what I would do first is check out the hitch looking for any creases in the metal or paint flaking (if you find this the hitch should not be used) and if that checks out see if there's a way to bend the hitch back carefully to allow it to fit. Check again for creases and paint flaking...
