According to page 249 of the owner's manual for your 2013 Ford Edge, the 3.5L V6 has a max towing capacity of 2,000 lbs without the tow package but 3,500 lbs with the tow package. I'm not sure what all comes with the Class II Trailer Tow Package so you will need to confirm that it is safe for you to tow up to 3,500 lbs with your local Ford dealer.

Since this is the case this means that even if your trailer hitch has a 4,000 lb towing capacity, like the etrailer.com # e98870, you are limited to the 2,000 lb weight capacity of your Ford Edge.

If you don't already have wiring installed I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118515 because it is the most reliable option we have plus it has the highest amp ratings. Please note that the manual also states on page 251 that is your trailer weighs more than 1,500 lbs you must use a brake controller. If this is the case then I recommend using the Curt Echo # C51180 with the Wiring Kit # ETBC7L to avoid routing wires into the cab of your vehicle. This brake controller is tirelessly configured with an Apple or Android smart device.

To complete a towing setup you also need a ball mount kit. I recommend checking out Ball Mount Kit # 989900 because it includes two ball mounts, one with a 3/4” rise/2” drop and the other with a 2-3/4” rise/4” drop, a 1-7/8” hitch ball, a 2” hitch ball, and a pin and clip. You will want to refer to the attached ball mount article to ensure that this kit is correct for your towing application.
