Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Install was easy - I had a shop do it, but I could have done it myself. Looks great, hardly visible. I bought the 1-up bike rack with the 1.25 hitch option, did not need an extension, everything just fit. No problems with clearance. Thanks!

Works great! Really love how solid it is, I have bottomed out only a few times totally my fault - and theres been no sign of any damage. I should have bought this years ago! Thanks!

This is my "One-Year Later" review.

Have
no complaints on this hitch. I installed it on a 2004 Camry to pull a U-Haul across the US from the west coast to the east coast. Install was very easy, did it in an hour or so.

The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star is because under the exhaust is pretty low and I'm constantly scraping it and that sound is awful. Not the parts fault itsself I mean I am using it on an already low car. I'll probably remove it when I'm done renting u-hauls, but overall very sturdy, easy to mount.

Hitch installed as expected.
Some delay
for missing fastener parts due to (IMHO) mishandling during initial shipping. Cardboard box torn in several places. Missing fasteners were quickly replaced by etrailer. Life is good!
Thanks.

I purchased this hitch receiver, along with a Curt bike rack. The instructional video was spot-on, matching my 2005 Toyota Camry XLE. Installation took less than an hour and I didn't have to put the rear end up on jacks to do it. But I used the bike rack for something a bit different... it held a medical transport chair for a 4500 mile trip. Great products, shipping and service. Perfect. Thanks, etrailer!

Still great! The only issue, as someone else pointed out, is Ive experienced some instances of the hitch receiver andor bike rack bottoming out when entering exiting driveways. Ive gotten used to approaching some driveways at an angle to avoid the problem. Id purchase the same products again, without hesitation.

I am so thankful for etrailer! I had tried to order this receiver two different times from other retailers and they sent me the wrong one both times. Then I came across etrailer and I am so thankful I did! They sent me the correct receiver and it was delivered exactly when it said it would be! The receiver is on my car now and it fit like a glove!

2003 ToyotaCamry

I just received the new hitch for my 2003 Toyota Camry and it arrived very quickly, undamaged and is good quality. All the hardware is included and the detailed installation instructions look very easy and complete. I still need to install it but I am confident it will take less than 30 minutes and fit perfectly.

by:
2003 ToyotaCamry

Incredibly frustrating experience. etrailer needs to list tube-insert clearances on all of their hitches (how far a bike rack can be inserted before it bottoms out).

DO NOT USE THIS WITH MODERN BIKE RACKS - If it has an expansion anti-theft feature you WILL NOT be able to fit your rack into this hitch - it will be short by at least 1".

I called customer service - they were unwilling to offer a discount for the second hitch that needed to be ordered (Curt, which can clear 4" instead of DrawTite's 3" - fingers crossed), I can't return the first one because this flaw wasn't revealed until it had already been installed on my vehicle (at $200 expense to me) so it's not new in box anymore.

I had to buy the other one that fits my make/model - so all in, I paid $800 for what should have cost $400, and made clear to the consumer in the first place.

You have been warned.

Great! No problems

by:
2005 ToyotaCamry

Nice people and easy to install but hitch will not work on a sedan with a bike rack attached as there is not enough clearance (back of bike rack will scrape ground on minor dips) and adapter (riser) will not work on Camry because of car frame. Not functional and there are returns accepted once installed. Hitches for sedans probably need built in riser with proper bumper clearance.

Nice product but steel is a little mild. Mine came a little "sprung" out of alignment and didn't line up with my Lexus's hole pattern. You could see a slight bend right out of the box on the left side plate tailing inward. I was hoping it was supposed to be like that but nope it was way off. I took a block of wood and wacked it a couple of times with a 20lb sledge hammer before installing. I got lucky and nailed it on the first try. Steel is soft(thankfully)! Sad part is I believe it was packed this way as the package was clean and untorn when I received it. So much for quality control. I was worried I would have to go through the hassle of an exchange.

Dom, I am sorry to hear about the issue with the hitch installation. The manufacturers of the hitches design the frame attachment arms with mild steel so that they can flex. They do this to prevent stress fractures from occurring over time due to changes in temperature or impact from potholes, etc. Because they are made to flex, they can sometimes get knocked out of alignment just like you mentioned.

by:
Ford Edge

Received the hitch very fast! Installation was pretty simple even for one person to complete with no jacks/ramps/stands just the car on the ground. Only issue I had was I didn't take off the exhaust hanger first and once the drivers side of the hitch was loosely attached it was tricky to try and maneuver the passenger side of the hitch around the exhaust hanger and pipe. Also, on my car the exhaust hanger has a tab that is folded in towards the hitch bracket and it does not wrap over the edge of the hitch bracket like it did on the towing bracket. In other words the exhaust hanger has a tab that is folded over and prevents it from laying flat against the exhaust bracket. However, when I torqued the bolts down this tab folded out and flat so it did not prevent a problem in the end.

The picture is with my Yakima HighLite 3 bike rack attached. One interesting thing I found out about this hitch when I bought my bike rack is that the input is actually very shallow. When my rack is installed, it does not go far enough into the hitch fitting so that I can put the safety pin into the side as a secondary link for the hitch and rack. In other words, if the main wedge that secures the rack in the hitch fails, there is nothing to keep the rack from just sliding or pulling out.

This is a concern as all of the other models of Yakima racks attach to the hitch solely by a bolt that goes through the hole in the side of the hitch. So any other rack will not work with this hitch at all unless you drill a secondary hole in the side of the hitch inlet to accommodate the locking bolt.

Perhaps on the other models of Yakima racks the hole is closer to the end of the rack that is inserted into the hitch so that the shallow hitch is not an issue? I am not sure of that. At least on the HighLite 3 model the holes in the hitch and rack to not line up.

I had to drill a new hole about 1/2" back from the original hole so this pin will fit and secure my rack in case the main lock fails.

Maybe this is only an issue with my bike rack and not the hitch being to shallow, but I am merely just trying to be informative.

All in all, I am COMPLETELY SATISFIED with this hitch and etrailer.com!!!

I am by far no mechanic but your video and the design of the Trailer Hitch receiver made it easy for me to mount it on our 2004 Toyota Camry. Thank you very much.
Just a suggestion, perhaps you should include a tap which would have made it much quicker to clean out the rusted hole where I needed to mount this. It took me more time to clean them out and would have been better to have the tap.
Sincerely, Michael

I absolutely loved the service here. It was so quick, packaging was perfect; the hutch went on pretty seamlessly. A total newbie when it comes to mechanics and very easy to install. Did it all said and done in about 30-45 mins. This hitch has the capacity to go on far fast then this. I packed the passenger side up high which made it more convenient, however, it is easily installed from the ground too. Thank you Etrailers so much!

by:

Package was delivered and I had the trailer hitch installed before the delivery company sent me a notification email that it was delivered. Super easy install. Have not hooked up a trailer yet but sure it’ll work great. Fast shipping too—great experience.

by:

Hitch was exactly what I needed to haul my bikes around. I did have to do some very minor modifications for an exact fit but it could be that I have a wagon versus the standard car. Nothing extreme and installation was very simple.

This isn't my first time purchasing from etrailer. Each time the service and shipping and quality has been great.

Thank you.

by:

Install was quick and easy. A little confusing at first because Camry and Avalon are on the same instruction sheet. It all worked out well enough, though. Hitch is rock solid and totes my high-end mountain bikes via my bike rack quite well.

by:

Very fast shipping. Just what I wanted. My mechanic said the bolts supplied with the hitch were too short but other than that all went well with the installation.

The hardware that comes with the hitch are M10 x 1.25 x 30mm CL8.8 bolts. I recommend cleaning out the weld nuts prior to installation. Often it seems the hardware is not a fit when all that is needed is to clearn out the weld nuts. We do have a good FAQ below to help.

One year later I am very happy with the hitch. Its been a great purchase.

by:

This really didn't work for me at all for my 1997 Camry. This is a poor design with the bar under the muffler. It dragged on curbs in driveways, so I had rear shocks and struts replaced but it was still too low. I went to Uhaul to pay them to remove it and asked them to dispose of it. I bought an alternative and the whole thing cost me more than I had anticipated but at least I have a working solution now.

by:

Just got a friend to install the hitch today. He said it was very easy and he had no problems at all. Ordering and delivery were great! Hitch came fast.

by:

Item was perfect fit. Excellent workmanship and finish. Bolted directly onto my vehicle with zero problem in less than 10 minutes. (UHaul folks were very impressed - they said it was the best one they had ever seen,)

  • Using MaxxTow # MT70355 Adapter with Draw-Tite Class II Hitch # 36336 on 2003 Toyota Camry
Your best bet would be to use a cargo carrier designed for a 1-1/4 inch hitch that has an angled shank to provide the additional ground clearance you're looking for. I'd recommend the Curt # C18110, which is compatible with the Class II hitch you're interested in and features an angled shank that would provide over a 3 inch rise for improved ground clearance. When we installed the Draw-Tite Class II hitch, part # 36336 on a 2006 Camry, we found that the hitch would be recessed under the...

This is a Class ll hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. I have attached a link to an installation video for this hitch on a 2005 Camry. While your concerns about clearance are understandable, the Draw-Tite 24563 is not a fit for your 2006 Toyota Camry; the two hitches which fit your Camry are the Draw-Tite # 36336, which you mentioned, and the Curt # C12339.
