Vertical Orientation

Yakima HangOver 6-bike Hanging-Style Rack

Unlike a platform-style rack that requires you to load and unload your bikes in a specific order, the vertical orientation of the Yakima HangOver allows you to remove your bikes in any order. This is great for tour operators who need to drop off passengers in different locations without having to remove the outermost bikes first. When loaded, it won't block your vehicle's taillights like many platform-style racks do. And, since it only holds bikes with front suspension forks, it's a great rack for a family who rides mountain bikes.

Padded Cradles and Rotating Cups

Yakima HangOver 6-bike Hanging-Style Rack Cradles

Padded cradles on the upper bar secure your bikes by the fork crown. They're compatible with single-crown and dual-crown forks. To secure your bikes, set them in the cradles and pull the rubber straps down and over the posts on the cradles. To remove your bikes, pull down on the rubber straps and remove them from the posts.

Yakima HangOver 6-bike Hanging-Style Rack set back position

Rotating wheel cups on the lower bar secure your bike's rear tires. Thread the ratcheting wheel straps between your bike's spokes and insert them into the buckle. To remove your bikes, press the ratchet release lever on each buckle.

Wrap the included cam-buckle safety strap through your bikes frames to reduce bounce and sway during transport.

Adjustable Mast Angle and Easy Tilting

Yakima HangOver 6-bike Hanging-Style Rack vertical position Yakima HangOver 6-bike Hanging-Style Rack set back position

The mast has 2 angle settings to prevent your bikes' tires from bumping your vehicle. The vertical position is ideal for trucks with an open bed, giving you plenty of room to load and access all your riding gear. The set-back angle provides clearance for SUVs, vans, trucks with a camper shell, and most other vehicles.

Yakima Full Tilt Hanging-Style Rack Tilting

The rack also tilts down without your bikes loaded for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area, or to lower your truck's tailgate.

Yakima HangOver 6-bike Hanging-Style Rack

To adjust the angle, step on the foot pedal and gently lower the rack with both hands. You can either stop at the set-back angle or lower it all the way down into tilt position. When you're ready to go, step on the foot pedal and lift the rack up until it snaps into place with an audible click.

Threaded Hitch Pin and Rack Security

Thule Range 6-bike Hanging-Style Rack Hitch Adapter

A threaded hitch pin is included to help eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. To tighten the pin in your hitch, use a 15/16" wrench (not included). The hitch pin includes a lock to secure the rack to your vehicle's hitch.

Yakima Full Tilt Hanging-Style Rack Tilting

An integrated lock loop serves as an anchor point to secure your bikes with a cable lock (sold separately).

I would strongly recommend NOT dealing with this company. My bike rack arrived very late and after delivery I realized it was not compatible with my bikes. I was looking for a six bike rack that could hold my family's bikes (2 adult + 4 small children's bikes) and this rack is very specific for ADULT MOUNTAIN BIKES ONLY. I did not realize this and called the customer service to initiate a return after having a hitch put onto my car. I was told I could not return. I was out over $1k and ended up giving this rack away on my local free cycle as it was NO value to me and took up space in my garage. I am not a bike expert just a mom with 4 small kiddos looking for ways to enable them to play outdoors, I would have appreciated a better product explanation up front so I understood this would not be a fit for my needs. I would have benefitted from better customer service. Suggest passing on this product/company.

I am sorry for the confusion, the Yakima HangOver Bike Rack for 6 Mountain Bikes - 2 Hitches - Tilting is designed to only work with adult mountain bikes.

by:

Perfect rack! Easy to put together, bikes are easy to load up. I own a bike tour company and get compliments from my guests all the time about this rack. Getting ready to order another one next month.

by:

Easiest bike rack to use. Fits all of our mountain bikes easily.

by:

We are happy with our purchase. We have not compared with other racks at this price. However, the rubber straps do not have the stretch ability and are cracking where they attach to the rack. The rack is very heavy and requires two people to mount on the vehicle. It gets the job done. I may have to buy new straps or a cheap bungie tie that will not crack. Hope this helps to improve your straps.

Rubber straps like string cheese. Expensive to replace. I am using zip ties.

by:

I highly recommend the Hangover! I use this rack multiple times weekly and have never had an issue. Very sturdy, the finish is very dependable as I've owned for a year and have zero rust anywhere, even the moving parts.

by:

Love this bike rack. Great design and quality built. We use it all the time. Really easy to use and quick to load/unload the bikes. Also, love the tilt feature. Shipping was quick. Arrived on time without any issues. Definitely recommend.

great!

by:

I love that this rack bolts into our hitch. Our previous 4 bike rack only had a hitch pin and it always looked so wabbly. It's a little hard to get the bikes to perfectly fit on the rack using the front forks, but the straps hold them nice and tight.

by:

This is the first bike rack we have ever owned that was able to easily carry six bikes. And each is super easy to load and unload. If you are transporting more than four bikes this is the rack to use.

by:

We have four kids so I have been looking for a solid 6 bike rack for a little. Came across this while on the site looking for something else and couldn’t pass it up. My son helped me put it together, nice and easy to assemble. Both adult and the kids mountain bikes fit and secure. Hoping to get a lot of use on camping trips this summer.

by:

Assembly is fairly straightforward. This is a heavy rack so installing and removing from vehicle is a workout. It works well for mountainbikes but not road or gravel bikes which is why I gave it 4/5.

by:

Love it. Works great for family of 6

by:

Easy to install. Very functional and d urable.

The rack is almost great, but there are some silly issues that I didn't expect for the price point. The rubber straps that hold your fork securely to the mounts were complete trash. It was difficult to secure them and get them out of the way for loading, and after a single road trip two had split open. I ended up buying some cheap generic bike rack straps and those have worked fine, but I should not have had to. I highly recommend putting a tie-down strap (included by e-trailer) from the rack handle to your roof rack to take up any slack in the system. I would also recommend securing your front wheels with a bungie or similar for longer trips. The wheels spin in the wind and cause the bikes to want to shift, due to physics that I have no business explaining. Also, as mentioned by e-trailer, this is not a convenient system for short people, my wife at 5'4" is NOT a fan, so I'm usually on load/unload duty.

by:

Our first time using it was on a 1500 mile trip. Had to stop 7 times in the first hour because one of the bikes kept falling off the bracket. Followed instructions to the T.
Total nightmare until we improvised the placement on the bracket and strapped it to the bracket, itself. After that, no issues.

by:

There are definitely pros and cons to this rack. Pros: It is secure and stable. I don't worry about my bikes moving or falling off. Cons: It is hard to get the bike in the right position on top. When you finally get it just right it takes a lot of strength to get the straps to lock into place. I can do it but I am always out of breath. It is not convenient and I won't recommend this particular model to anyone.

by:

Easy to use if you are reasonably strong, my wife struggles to lift the bikes on. Rack is very secure though when in use. Worth checking the cradle bolts every few months as we had one come loose. Only minor improvement would be to have a greater selection of height options to better suit our car’s hitch height

by:

Great product. Etrailer had the best price and customer service.

  • Will Yakima HangOver 6 Bike Rack Work on Tall Van
Yes, a tall van like your Sprinter is absolutely compatible with the Yakima HangOver 6 Bike Rack for Mountain Bikes # Y02485. The HangOver 6 # Y02485 can be used while tilted back to add clearance from your van; I have added a photo below showing it being used on a tall van. Also, the rack only fits 2 inch hitches which must be a minimum of 12 inches from the ground, and you'll want to keep in mind it measures 8-3/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the...

  • Will the Yakima HangOver 6 Bike Rack Work With Kids Bikes
The Yakima HangOver 6 Bike Rack part # Y02485 won't work with kids bikes. That said, there isn't really another six bike rack you can use that will carry kid's bikes so you'll have to carry the kid's bikes on the roof with the Yakima FrontLoader Wheel Mount Bike Carrier part # Y02103 for example. If you can provide the specifics of the vehicle and roof type I'd be happy to provide options for this. I have however attached a list of roof mounted bikes racks below.

  • How To Carry 6 Bikes On A 2017 Chevrolet Traverse
Since you may be transporting 6 bikes, you have three choices. First, there is a hitch-mounted 6-bike carrier available, # Y02485 however, it only works if all 6 bikes have suspension forks. Second, we have the 6-bike carrier # Y39GR. It works with mountain bikes, road bikes, kid's bikes, BMX bikes, fat bikes, and lighter e-bikes. This is my favorite choice for you. Finally, you could get a hitch-mounted 5-bike carrier and then a roof-mounted bike rack for the last bike. For this...

We have a similar 6 bike rack that can be carry a wider range of bike frame styles and sizes but the Yakima Hangover # Y02485 can only be used with adult size mountain bikes that have front fork suspension. Instead you'd want the Yakima HangTight part # Y39GR which can fit a wider range of bikes like I mentioned. I attached a review video for these for you to check out as well.

For your Forest River No Boundries 19.3 NoBo, I recommend the Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver for RVs, 22" to 66" Wide # C13704. This hitch receiver is rated for tongue weights up to 500 lbs. I can't confirm your bike rack is rated for the back of your travel trailer as many manufacturers do not confirm bike racks for travel trailer use due to the excessive sway and bounce that cause additional strain on a bike rack. • Can I Use The Yakima Hangover On My Travel Trailer With Non Front Fork Suspension Bikes?
The Yakima HangOver 6 # Y02485 is only compatible with fork suspension bikes due to how the top cradle is designed. You place one fork in between the curved and straight coated stud. If you didn't have forks on your bikes they wouldn't be able to hang properly thus making the rack unusable. It also will not work with travel trailers due to the amount of sway that will happen since it's so far back from the axle of the trailer and the drive axle. • Does the Yakima HangOver Work with Fat Tire Bikes?
Yes! The ratcheting strap on the Yakima HangOver 6 # Y02485 that secures the lower tires can fit fat tire bikes with wheel widths of up to 4.8 inches. Some fat tires do come in 5" widths though, so just make sure that's not the case with your son's bike and you're good to go. One thing to note is that the Yakima BackSwing Swing Away Hitch Extender # Y02483 works with the Yakima Hangover 4 # Y02484 but not the 6-bike version.
