Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I bought this hitch for my car to primarily use it with a bike rack and a luggage rack. It works perfectly for those applications. I used it once to tow a lite trailer. Easy installation. I’m happy with my purchase.

2012 Mazda CX-9

Finally got to installing the hitch this morning on my 2012 Mazda CX-9. This was one of this projects that I didn't have an extra set of hands to help but it worked out fine.

Instructions were very straight forward and thankfully for me Mazda had already included the nuts in the design of the car for an easy install. I've attached a few pictures of the install. I used a car stand to give me the extra hands I needed to hold one end of the hitch up while I started the bolts in the other. All together the install took about 30 minutes. About half way through tightening the bolts it occurred to me that dropping the spare tire out of the way would help, once I did that it all came together really quick.

Thanks for a great product and excellent costumer service.

Perfect fit.

Very pleased with website info, videos, reviews. Item came shipped in great shape. Installation just as described — did it solo using a sturdy plastic flower pot upside down as my 2nd set of “hands”. I got the first 2 bolts in very quickly, then struggled to add others. Finally figured out up/down alignment was off — hitch end needs to be pushed up, which I did with our SUV jack. Really made it so much easier and last 4 bolts went right in. Can’t wait to give it a try. Looks great and unobtrusive.

Trailer Hitch came 4 days before expected. Easy install; helpful videos on website explaining product and installation. This is my 2nd purchase from trailer. Installed my first hitch 4 years ago and haven't had any issues and don't expect this one to either. highly recommend etrailer

2013 Mazda CX-9

The product came quickly and fit great. I was a bit stubborn and tried to do it without lowering the tire. This was a mistake and after struggling for 20 minutes I gave in and lowered the tire. The sped the process up significantly.
The only real problem I had after lowering the tire was that I didnt have anyone helping me and it was hard to push it into the correct place to get the bolts to set in the holes. The bumper was pushing it back down at me. Not a flaw in the hitch but just my stubbornness once again.

I havent yet used the hitch but plan to next week. But it is on and looks great and natural.

Fairly easy to install. It’s easier to install and you will have a Lot of room to work with if the spare tire and the unit that holds the spare tire in place are removed from the vehicle.. If you don’t remove the until that holds the spare, a torque wrench and socket won’t fit and passenger side bolts won’t be able to be torqued.

I'm disappointed. The box was deliverd all the way open and I'm surprized all the parents made it in shipping. I looked over the trailer hitch receiver and it's scratched and paint chipped off all over it. I realize eventually it is going to get beat up but I shouldn't have to touch up paint on the thing before I even install it. I have to touch it up with paint now or it will just rust. Not a happy customer. Why wasn't this packed better? It was just flouting around in a box.

I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you. I recommend touching up the affected areas with a rust resistant paint which you will then have on hand for regular hitch maintenance. When the hitches are installed on the vehicle ove time they will be hit with raod debris which will cause nicks and scratches over time.

2013 Mazda CX9

I really liked all the video installation guides that eTrailer provides. It really helped me figure out how to get my hitch in and around the heat shields in my Mazda CX9 (2013).

I did need an extra set of hands to get it in. Not that the hitch was too heavy for one person, it's just that it's balanced weird and it really just takes 4 hands to maneuver it. Once I got it in place. Installation just took about 10 minutes to tighten down all the bolts. I didn't have to remove the spare tire.

TIP: a 3/4" ratcheting wretch would be very helpful (vs a socket wrench).

My only complaint is that the hitch is slightly too narrow. There is a 1/16-1/32 inch gap between the hitch and one side of the frame. So I end up getting a little space. This doesn't worry me much, I don't plan on towing more than about 1000lbs. It's just not snug against the frame on both sides. When it comes down to it, there are six (6) 12mm bolts holding the hitch onto the frame, so it shouldn't be an issue. I just wonder if I was sent the correct hitch for my vehicle.

If I were towing 6500lbs I would be really concerned about this. but I would probably have a hitch that was welded onto the frame instead of bolted on.

All in all, shopping with eTrailer was great. They sent me emails along the way telling me my order was processed, order shipped, and a follow up email after it was delivered. I found their pricing to be comparable to others and a little cheaper in some cases.

Received hitch in quick order. Due to weight and dimensions of trailer hitch the welded on mounting tabs were poking through package, not thrilled but no damage (just some paint). Installed by myself while laying on the ground. A second set of hands would have been great; but still took me 5 minutes to get the first bolt in (heat shields were partially in the way). 20 minutes later and all was secure. Good looking, good quality, easy install worth the price.

When I told a friend I was interested in getting a trailer hitch to haul my bicycle around he suggested etrailer. I went online and pulled up my vehicle year, make and model and all matches quickly appeared. I have never installed a trailer hitch before so the very helpful online pictures and instructions assured me even I could do this! I selected the most popular hitch and within a couple of minutes the confirmation hit my inbox. The hitch arrived as advertised and once the box was opened there was the hitch (in it's glory) with 6 bolts and 6 washers. The installation was very easy- I just had to drop the spare tire from underneath, align the predrilled holes with the holes in the frame (with welded nuts) and thread the bolts. I did the installation myself and it took less than an hour. Based in my experience I would highly recommend etrailer to any and all!

by:

outstanding service from your CSRs.

by:

Hitch arrived fast and in perfect condition. The installation was not difficult to do. As other have said - an extra pair of hands is helpful. The only trouble I had was the mechanism that raises / lowers the spare tire was to close for my torque wrench to fit. I removed it, tightened the hitch and reinstalled it without issue. Total job was less than 30 minutes!

by:
2007 Mazda CX-9

The instructions and pictures made it so easy to install the hitch. I am not a mechanical inclined person, always rely on the dealer. But I was so exited and proud that I installed the hitch on my vehicle on my own.

by:
2012 Mazda CX-9

By myself I had this hitch from out of the box to on the car with the bolts finger tight in about 7 minutes. I used the box it came in to rest it on while I tightened the bolts. Probably took another 15 minutes to get all the bolts tight due to the cramped working space. Looks great!

by:

Here are some photos after install. I think they may help anyone, "on the fence" about purchasing any particular model of trailer hitch. Hope they help.

by:

I was pleased with the hidden profile on this hitch. It is hardly noticeable. Installation was easy. I didn't have anyone to help hold the hitch so I used wooden dowels to keep it in place until I installed the bolts.

by:
2012 Mazda CX-9

Arrived quickly and everything was as d escribed

by:

I removed the spare tire and installed it by myself in about 20 mins. It looks great and is well hidden. Fast shipping.

by:
2010 Mazda CX-9

Got it installed on my own in 45 min. or so. I didn't have to move the spare or raise the car. I just got under it in my garage and propped the hitch up on some wooden blocks while I hand-tightened the bolts.
I ended up starting with the hitch upside down to get the side blades to fit in the gaps under the car and then rotated it into position.

The instructions and video (the 2010 video for my 2011 CX-9) were very helpful, especially to know that the 19mm crowfoot wrench would be helpful in the tight spot on the passenger side. I got a hold of one before the hitch arrived. It was still a bit awkward, but I was able to get the right torque with my 20-150 1/2 inch torque wrench with a 3/4 inch adapter.
The side blades of the hitch didn't quite reach both sets of bolt holes at first, but easily reached after tightening.

The hitch looks great, just like the example pictures!

After a year, the hitch is working great and hold/spulls everything I need it to. It has some rust bits around the receiver where the paint was scratched off by the hitches Ive ed, but other than that it looks great!

LOVE IT & LOVE YOUR SITE!!!!! Have already shared with a few friends. This hitch was simple to install, took about 20 minutes!! & looks great too, doesn't stick out too much from the back end!

by: 03/21/2023

Very happy with our hitch. The holes on my car were a bit rusted up, but once I cleaned them out, the hitch went on pretty easily.

by:
2008 Mazda CX-9

Installing the trailer hitch was simple, straight forward and results in a finished product that looks like factory installed. I completed the install myself in about 25 minutes. I pre tested each hole with the mounting bolts. Once in place, I put in a pin to hold one side and bolted in the other with 2 bolts, then moved to the pinned side to install the bolts there. I've already tried out my bike rack and it fit perfectly, first time. Great product, great service from etrailer.com ....

Great product, simple to install. After a year of use, and removing the bike rack after each use, there is no rust, looks like it was installed recently. Solid and dependable.

2012 Mazda CX-9

This hitch was perfectly fitted for my 2012 Mazda CX-9 and I had it completely installed in 20 minutes. I had a helper and would highly recommending having one just to get it positioned and the bolts started. Everything else was very easy. The only real challenge were the passenger side bolts with the limited space. However, I just tightened them with a box wrench first and that gave me enough room to get the socket on them. I really like how much of this hitch stays hidden too.

  • Recommended 2 Bike Hanging Style Hitch and Trunk Rack For 2015 Mazda CX-9
For your 2 bike hanging rack, there are 2 options a hitch mount or a trunk mount. I recommend the Swagman Trailhead 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Tilting # S63360. This rack has a tilting function so you can have better cargo access with bikes installed. It has an anti-rattle threaded pin included to keep the bike rack tight to your hitch, and anti-sway cradles to secure your bikes with durable rubber straps. • Is it Necessary to Torque Hitch Bolts with a Torque Wrench on a Trailer Hitch for a Mazda CX-9
Yes you should torque the bolts down properly with a torque wrench. Torque wrenches can be found at any store that carries a good selection of automotive tools. The torque rating for the bolts with this hitch, currently, are listed for 76 Lb.-Ft. This number can change if the manufactuerer changes hardware or if Mazda were to adjust the frame, so always check the instructions included with the hitch for torque rating.

  • Which Trailer Hitch Is Recommended For 2008 Mazda CX 9
The Draw-Tite and Curt are top quality hitches as far as strength. As far as fitment on the vehicles, most manufacturers today try to make the hitch as least unobtrusive as possible when designing around the vehicle design. When we recommend hitches we usually try to take into consideration how it looks on the vehicle. Like the hitch does not hang too low or that it does not stick too far out from the rear fascia. Yes to all of your questions! The Curt Hitch part # 13575 that you referenced would be an excellent choice for a hitch for your 2014 Mazda CX-9 and would allow you to retain your factory spare tire. The spare will need to be angled a bit as it get raised and lowered but that shouldn't be too much of a hassle. • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2012 Mazda CX-9
Since your 2012 Mazda CX-9 did not come with a trailer hitch that would indicate it does not have the tow package. Also the fact that you don't have trailer wiring is evidence of this as well. So you'd want the Tekonsha kit part # 118520 which is a confirmed fit and will work well. For a trailer hitch I'd recommend the Draw Tite part # 75531 which is a 2 inch trailer hitch which would not ever require a stabilizer strap with a non-supported load like a bike rack like the Curt hitch does.
