2012 Ford Explorer

This was a perfect fit for my 2012 Explorer. It looks and functions great and the price cannot be beat! eTrailer is a great company; you can tell this by the organization and details on their website. Tracking the package in transit is a breeze and items arrive on time.

The hitch is solid. The moment you take it out of the box, you’ll know you got a great part. I was able to install it myself, though it would have certainly been better to have someone help hold it in position just to get a bolt started on each side. In any case, it does not take long to install. All hardware was included and directions are minimal and straightforward. You’ll need some WD-40 to get the exhaust off its hangers, a strap to support the exhaust while it’s lowered, a socket set, and a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to specs. I did not have a torque wrench that went all the way up to the required torque value, so I ended up purchasing one at the local box store. If you don’t like acquiring tools, you could always ask a neighbor or maybe rent one from the local auto parts store. In any case, with the new wrench, as well as the 4-pole wiring harness and magnetic trailer lights (also purchased from etrailer), I still came out way ahead of what it would have cost to put on a hitch at the dealer. In essence, the $450 bike rack that goes in the hitch receiver and the quality torque wrench ($80) serve as “free” gifts to the family/myself for the DYI installation. Finally, some might want a Ford OEM hitch setup but the curved design of this particular custom hitch looks great. Happy hauling!

by:

I received my new hitch and wiring harness quickly and without issue. The instructions were all clearly written. I would rate my mechanic abilities as moderate and I was able to complete the installation by myself during a Sunday afternoon in my driveway. I had some issues getting some of the old bolts out of the exhaust hangers due to some mild corrosion but nothing some PB Blaster could not solve. I was able to get all the new bolts secured and torqued down to spec easily and then re-hang the exhaust. I was able to pick up my new boat (about 1500lbs) and tow it home without issue.

Part of the hitch was scratch and some of the paint chipped off during shipping but it wasn't enough damage for me to be concerned with it. I also have not finalized where I am going to put the trailer harness plug so that's just zip tied on at the moment.

2015 Ford Explorer

I have a 2015 Ford Explorer and bought Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver from etrailer.com on a Thursday afternoon. I paid a little extra to have it arrive by no later than Tuesday. The hitch showed up on Monday evening around 6:00. It took me about 35 minutes to put on. Super easy, and it fit perfectly. The instructions and online videos from the etrailer.com website where very informative and took any reservations about installing it myself out of the picture. The young lady Chris from etrailer was very helpful and told me exactly what I needed. I definitely would recommend etrailer.com and this product to others. Nice Job. I was impressed.

2013 Ford Explorer

Installed in about 2 hours by myself. Pro tip. Make sure to use the included wire to feed the carriage bolt into the frame BEFORE you insert the tab. Would have been a 45 minute install if not for that. Super simple. Super beefy kit. Great hardware!

by:

Website says it fits 2011 Ford Explorer, but I t doesn’t. Also didn’t come with all the necessary bolts they showed in the videos. Would not recommend buying.

Yeah it will, you have a flexed hitch receiver. This is common and easy to rectify. Use the link provided to find ways to realign the hitch receiver. You can reach out to customer service to have the missing hardware sent to you.

Perfect hitch for 2018 Ford Explorer. Have used with bike rack as well as cargo carrier. Very discrete as well under the rear bumper.

2018 Ford Explorer

Excellent ++++++ I received my new hitch for my 2018 Ford Explorer. I You Tubed the install from etrailer, and I literally could have sat back and watch it install itself. What a breeze. The ONLY difficulty I had was lining up the blocks to raise the car up a bit to make the install easier. This is my second hitch from etrailer. Needless to say, I'm 100% satisfied. Great product, fast delivery. Thanks

Ford Explorer

This has worked very well for me and installing it myself was not too difficult. It was tricky getting above the mufflers as I have a Ford explorer limited and do not have a car lift. It's worked great since.

by:

Great responses, great product, easy to follow application guide, quick, easy and accurate install product, delivered on time, as described, everything was A+ !! What more can you ask for!!
I will look to order first from etrailer every time!

2016 Ford Explorer

I have a 2016 Explorer that the hitch went on as simple as can be. I think it took longer to grab the few tools needed than it did to install it. I’m going to get one for my daughters vehicle. I didn’t do the wiring because it’s only going to be used for a bike carrier and a little loading platform so can’t say how that would go, but the hitch I’d recommend to any one and everyone.

by:

I like the hitch a lot that I ordered from this company. They have been very helpful with videos to install it and anything else I needed. I would highly recommend anyone to order a trailer hitch from this company if they need one. I have had it for around a year and I have not seen any rust on it. Thank y'all for a good quality trailer hitch :-)

2017 Ford Explorer

Awesome low profile hitch. It looks great on my Ford Explorer! The installation was super easy. I got it installed in about 30 minutes. The only issue I ran into was removing the exhaust brackets from the factory. They were pretty tough to remove. Had to use a cheater bar to get them off. Other than that, the install was super easy. Everything fit perfectly! The install video was dead on. Watched it a couple of times and knew exactly what to do. Again, awesome hitch!

by:
2017 Ford Explorer

Really like the way the Curt trailer hitch receiver looks on my 2017 Explorer. Class III receiver should be adequate for my 19’ center console boat. Thanks.

by:

Good value, looks good, less than an hour to install (on a lift).

by:

The hitch was well made and well designed. The fit was excellent and the installation was easy. I like the fact that it rides up close to the body and has never been a problem dragging on steep driveways. It looks and fits like an OEM hitch.

by:

Trailer hitch fit perfect, we received it super fast, the price was great, with free shipping!
I use etrailer for all the off brands we get, and even for some dealership cars where the customer wants a heavier class hitch. We've never had any issues, thank you!

by:

Quick shipping; extremely easy to install borh the hitch and the electrical connector; both within a half hour installation with two people

2011 Ford Explorer

I ordered a hitch for my 2011 Ford Explorer and it fit perfectly. The wiring harness and the receiver installed quite easily as well. I couldn't be happier with the service and quality from etrailer on this order.

I hope I was leaving 5 stars, don’t know why they weren’t all on one line. Extremely positive experience with trailer, item in stock, fast shipping, great price and excellent tracking system. I will do business again and I will tell my friends

by:

etrailor was great! I ordered a class 3 trailer hitch during arrived within a week despite this pandemic. Great quality product and was able to install it myself in 30 minutes this was mostly due to the great video provided on the web site

by:

This is an excellent product. Even though I installed it by myself without help, I still was able to get it done without any major issues. The hitch is out view for the most part. It is easy to hook up to. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

  • Will the Thule OutWay Trunk Mount Bike Rack Fit a 2014 Ford Explorer Sport
The Thule OutWay trunk mount bike rack # TH56BV is listed as a fit for your 2014 Ford Explorer. However I cannot advise going against anything in the vehicle owners manual. I recommend installing a trailer hitch, # C13386, and using a hitch mount bike rack such as Thule Camber 2 part # TH9058. This will actually cost less than the Raceway and you will have the added benefit of a trailer hitch that you could use for other accessories such as a cargo carrier or for towing should the need...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch, Wiring Harness and Brake Controller for a 2013 Ford Explorer
I recommend the Curt trailer hitch # C13386 because it is a very durable Class-III receiver hitch and is a bolt-on installation. No welding is needed. The maximum gross trailer weight is 4,000 pounds and will have a maximum tongue weight of 400 pounds. I would go with the ball mount kit # 989900 as it includes everything you need to tow multiple trailers. The wiring harness you need is # C56093 and the T-connector will plug directly into your existing wiring. I highly recommend using...

  • Towing Components for 2013 Ford Explorer XLT 3.5L V6 to Tow Travel Trailer
Exactly what is included in a vehicle "tow package" varies between auto makers, vehicle models and even model years. It could mean a hitch, wiring, transmission cooler and heavy-duty suspension. Or it could refer to only one or two of these towing-related components. There is no absolute fixed standard for what it means. If you give your local Ford dealership your VIN they can look it up to see what factory equipment was installed on your Explorer. I see that you have Curt 2-inch hitch...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2014 Ford Explorer
I can't speak as to why the factory Ford hitch is installed where it is but as far as aftermarket trailer hitches the manufactures determine the best places to attach a hitch and that is why they install where they do on your 2014 Ford Explorer. I wouldn't say that one height is better than another on a vehicle that is already fairly high off the ground. Its a bigger concern on vehicles low to the ground like mini vans. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount...

The carriage bolt on the passenger side of the Ford Explorer that is giving you trouble when installing the # C13386 has to be used when installing the hitch otherwise the warranty of the hitch would be voided. In order for you to double-check if you have an existing towing package or not, is to have your local Ford dealer run your VIN. You can also look on your vehicle to see if there happens to be a tow package. Sometimes they are difficult to see because of being hidden. Our most popular trailer hitch for your 2011 Ford Explorer is the Curt # C13386. It is a Class-III hitch and has a towing capacity of 4,000 pounds. It's a bolt on application so no drilling is required. On that note, the...

No modification of the rear bumper is needed when installing the Curt # C13386 or Draw-Tite # 76034 hitch receiver on your 2017 Ford Explorer. Both trailer hitch receiver options will sit below the rear bumper so they will be visible at all times as you can see in the attached installation videos.
