Does the Fish Wire Bolt of the Curt Hitch # C13386 Have to Be Installed

Question:

I have let everything down and attempted to fish the 1/2inch carriage bolt and plate. The plate wont turn and cant get the carriage bolt down far enough to put on the nut. What is the point of one carriage bolt on one side of the car? Is it necessary?

Expert Reply:

The carriage bolt on the passenger side of the Ford Explorer that is giving you trouble when installing the # C13386 has to be used when installing the hitch otherwise the warranty of the hitch would be voided.

Fish wiring hardware can be somewhat frustrating. I attached a help video on fish wiring for you to check out as well as an install video that shows how the hitch installs. Right at the 3:55 second mark is where the fish wiring is covered. It is the reverse fish wire technique as our installer calls it.
