Video Transcript for Tow Ready Hitch Locks - Standard Pin Lock - TR63254 Review

Today we're going to review part number TR63254. This is a Tow Ready Base Rail Lock for fifth-wheel trailer hitches. It's a 1/2 inch diameter pin right here. This bent pin-style lock will secure your fifth-wheel trailer hitch to the standard base rails in your truck bed. You'll use this in place of the pin and clip on one of the hitch legs of your fifth wheel. This is a steel pin which is very strong and durable. It has a nice chrome-plated finish which will help resist rust.

It has this plastic snap-on cap right here and that cap will cover this key slot to help prevent any corrosion from getting into the locking mechanism. It does come with the two keys. They are included. Basically what you would do is go ahead and put the key in there and turn it and this will pop out and when that pops out, you can remove the lock end from the pin itself and actually you can take the key out because then when you go to install it, you can just push it on and then when you push that down, it would lock it into place. You don't need the key to lock it down. I'm going to give you a few specs on this. The overall length, which is from this end to the very end here, this is going to be right at 7-1/2 inches.

Now the inside length, which is going to be the measurement here to where the bend starts, this is going to be right at 3-1/2 inches. And again, the pin diameter on this is 1/2 inch. Now what I'm going to do is we're going to take this off and I'm actually going to install it. As we go back here, I have an example of a fifth-wheel leg right here. This is on the rails already and then you can see it has the pin and clip already on there. What I'm going to do is go ahead and pull the clip to pull that pin out and then what I'm going to do is take this bent pin.

I'm going to slide it through where that pin and clip was and again, take the key out and then I'm just going to put this lock on the end, push it. That locks it into place. You can put the cover on it and you can see that this would lock into placed. All you really need is one of these on here. You could do all four if you want but actually one would work fine and keep anybody from removing the fifth-wheel hitch from your rails themselves. Just to remove it, open that cover, put the key in there, turn it until it pops out and then you can take that off and you're ready to go. Simple installation as that, but that should do it on a review on part number TR63254, the Tow Ready Base Rail Lock for fifth-wheel trailer hitches. .

One lock used to lock 5th wheel hitch to industry standard rails.
One lock used to lock Industry Standard Rails to pickup truck frame.
Both locks worked perfectly. I now have THREE locks on my expensive 5th wheel hitch to really slow down any evil doers. They would be making a hell of a racket trying to get my hitch. Thanks. Great locks, fair price, super service, keyed alike. Thank so much!

Great Lock

by:

Ordered a pin lock and immediately received an e mail that it would be a few days to receive, but they offered a comparable replacement they could ship immediately. While I chose the pin lock I originally ordered, their suggestion was much appreciated.

They also followed up and let me know when my items were shipped and asked if I had any questions, or if there was anything else they could do for me.

Great service, great products, great prices. Great company.

I definitely want to look into this for you. Do you still have the lock? Would you be able to send a picture to show how it did not fit?

The pin is fatter than the stock pin

Ok, I now see what is going on. The pin location that you were wanting a locking pin for, does not have a locking pin available. The lock that purchased would be to lock the 5th wheel feet to the rails. We have spoken with B&W about this before, and the best option that has been suggested to lock the hitch head of the B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch is a cable lock, as there is not a padlock or pin lock for the head unit. So for that what I recommend is an adjustable cable lock such as part # 8419DPF

Being a retired police officer, theft was always a concern. Purchasing the two locks have given us a peace of mind. 1/2" was very difficult to find, so we appreciate etailer for having them.

I bought a Reese 5th-wheel hitch, universal mounting assembly & wire harness from these guys - shipping was timely, products were everything I expected, they answered all my questions right away. I'm very happy with their service and they provide a wealth of information on all aspects of towing. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone needing trailer gear and expertise. Top-notch company.

Working great still using it. Also purchased a Reese airborne pin box from you guys. Just took a 5800 mile trip and it was worth every penny. Thanks for the follow up. Have a great day!

by:

I originally thought this would fit my anderson hitch on the base rails to lock it in. The length of the pins were not long enough so it would not work for my application. I found nothing wrong with the locking pin other than it wont work, it would be nice to find a pin that fits thru the holes of the base rails on the anderson application so I can lock it in place when not towing the fifth wheel, I will keep looking.

by:

received the lock in timely manner (slowed down due to Christmas/New Years). Slid right onto the hold down pin of my 5th wheel receiver. Locked in place. As of now would recommend the product, but make sure the holes in your rails and or the trailer hitch are the right diameter. Due to above statement cannot rate as excellent at this time.

by:

Doesn’t fit in the rails for my fifth wheel hitch. Has been laying on my desk for a year.

I reached out to Reese and found that if you have the 30035 rails from Reese then this lock would not be a fit. You can use part # RP58093 which will allow you to lock the pin to the rail with a padlock.

by:

This fifth wheel locking pin is a great idea! It installs easily as shown in the video. They are inexpensive enough that I bought two and installed them on diagonally opposite corners. That way, No one can lift one end, or side, of the hitch and break off the tab that is locked under the rail. It would only take five minutes, or less, to pull the four pins and steal my $800 fifth wheel.

by:

I tried to use this to secure my ProSeries 16k fifth wheel hitch to the bedrails and the lock would not slide onto the pin enough to attach. The lock was hitting the bed rail no matter what I tried. So it was not a good fit for this use.

by:

Perfect, just barely long enough but it works!! My boat bow mount electric motor and alternate bow mount anchor nest are now much more secure. Thanks...

Kenneth

Flawlessly, no problems.

by:

It would not work on my 5th wheel rails. I have a pull rite
5th wheel and there is no room to put the lock and fasten
it. The rails are Curt rails and not Reese rails but they
still worked for the Pull Rite hitch just less room under to
put a lock.

by:

perfect just what i was looking for works great.. using it on a 5th. wheel receiver mounted in bed of pickup truck so it does not grow legs and disappear we do not take it out when not in use it's left mounted in truck. .

by:

Works as advertised. Seems to be a pretty solid lock. One of the pics I saw showed a B&W hitch similar to mine so I pulled the trigger on the purchase. Upon install I couldn't get the lock piece to secure to its pin. My base rail system (B&W custom rail kit 2017 RAM Cummins D) design was not allowing the lock to secure do to not having enough space/room. I finally ended up getting it secure by some "fanagalling" but it ends up being a tight fit in a tight space especially if I want to get the key in. Wish the pin piece was just a tad bit longer. All in all great product and does what it is supposed to do.

by:

It was a little tight getting onto place on my 5th wheel hitch base but works great.
I would recommend

by:

Ordered 2. One had a defective locking mechanism and would not release the pin. Other one works fine, although the lock does not appear to be a precision assembly. The returns process with eTrailer is great. No hassle. They sent a UPS prepaid label for the return.

by:

These locks helps with being secure with the 5th wheel hitch in the bed of the truck .

by:

The Base Rail Lock works as advertised. Went on with no problems. Bought this lock to put my wife's mind at ease for security of our 5th wheel hitch

by:

Product was correct and delivered quickly, lock works easily and smoothly...dust cap is great. One note is that there is insufficient room on my rails between the bottom of the pin and the top of the rail to allow the larger lock portion to fit over the pin portion of the lock. Mine just fit...if the pin was only 1/8" shorter, I would not be able to fully engage the lock onto the pin.

by:

The product works as advertised, however, the rails I have do not have the clearance required to use it. I cannot get the cylinder onto of the rail to lock it. If this product was 1/2" longer it would be great.
