Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Ball Mount Review 40701

What's up everybody, Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Draw-Tite trailer ball mount. So this ball mount's gonna be for your three inch hitch receivers. It's a big boy, it's made of steel, and this is gonna be a very, very heavy duty ball mount. So it's gonna have a 21,000 pound capacity, 2100 pound tongue weight. So for those big, big trailers, this is gonna be the way to go.

Just make sure you have a three inch hitch receiver. And we are gonna have to pair this up with a ball. So kind of think about what kind of ball you want. This one's gonna come with a six inch drop or a four inch rise, just depending on how we orientate it. But there are some other balls that are gonna give us an inch or two inches of rise, just the ball itself.

So if you wanted to kind of add to the rise or make the drop not as big, you can grab another ball, but with this ball, we wanna make sure that we kind of line it up with what we're using. You kind of wanna kit it all together, meaning all the weight capacities. So our ball right now is a 2 5/16, so make sure it fits your coupler, but it's 30,000 pounds and this is 21,000 pounds, so the ball isn't limiting us. We just wanna make sure we do that. And whenever you do get a ball, we need to make sure that we get the right size.

So the hole is gonna have a diameter of an inch and 1/4. So we wanna have the right size because we don't want any play. Anything bigger, and it's not gonna fit, and anything smaller, it's gonna have way too much play. Since there's so much weight being put on this, we wanna make sure there's no play there. So whenever you're piecing all this together, just make sure and do that.

One other thing you're gonna need, not just the ball, but also a pin and clip. The diameter of the hole is about 5/8 of an inch. But I like to use the locking pin just because why not If you just had a pin and clip, they can just pull that out, pull that out real quick, and it's theirs. So we like to think people are honest, but you never know. People just get sticky fingers. So this one, you just rotate it and it should pop out after a while. So I would definitely recommend getting this 'cause it's a pickless lock, you have to rotate it. No one's gonna be able to get this undone. So that is definitely a suggestion just like that. So definitely add that to your cart, but just to show you kind of what you could do, oof, we put it in like this to give us a rise, but this truck is pretty big. It's a stock ride height, but still massive. We'll do one more measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball, it's gonna be about 11 1/2 inches. So it's not too close to the vehicle and it's not too far away. So if you do have some toolboxes or maybe even just a bike rack on the tongue of your trailer, the longer, the farther away from your hitch, the better. So this is about 11 1/2 inches, which is a good distance, not too short in my opinion. But all in all, this is gonna be a very, very, heavy, heavy duty ball mount. It's gonna get what you need done for those big, massive trailers you might be bringing to the construction site. It looks good. It's got a powder-coated finish, it's not gonna rust away. And I think it's gonna be a good option for you. So that's basically it for our look at the Draw-Tite three inch trailer ball mount..

High quality, solid metal and built to last. Doesn't have the rattle that some of the lighter weight ball mounts have.

Great customer service from etrailer. Dont know when I have received faster service and shipping from anyone.
Product is definitely built for the job. Havent used it yet,but what could go wrong?
As long as I do my part, I expect this hitch and ball to perform as advertised.

etrailer had the Draw-Tite ball mount I needed in stock and at the best price I found anywhere!
Great customer service and lightning fast shipping... I will definitely do business with this company again!!

by:

etrailer has an outstanding selection of specialty products, more than I've found at any other retailer whether online or brick and mortar. Prices are highly competitive, they've been in stock on everything I've ordered and they ship promptly. Everywhere else I go is out of stock and they say they can order it for me. Why waste my time when I can go to etrailer.com, order it and usually have it in 4-5 days, regardless of weight?

by:

should work great on my F450 for my bumper pull trailers just the right amount of drop

by:

The price was less than other places that I checked. I have bought quite a few things from this company and it has always been delivered as expected and always what I ordered. Quality has been good also.

tl;dr good experience with warts. The etrailer-branded ball mount kit I ordered was back-ordered for a month, which was fine. Eventually Ashley E told me it would be a _second_ month. Not fine. She helped me configure a new order of third party parts. Shipped in one day. Great! Not great: Parts were just thrown in a box with no protection. UPS did their usual thing. Paint was chipped in a couple of places; would surely rust. I'll shoot these spots with some spray paint before installation. Hope that's a fix. I can't afford to diddle with a return.

by:

the ball was missing in the package the rest was ok, delivered when expected but had to go fish out from UPS as the package was not accepted due to damaged container. all was ok but no ball on ball mount ?

by:

I needed an extended ball mount for my new Jeep in order for my utility trailer tongue to clear the rear mounted spare tire. Item is as described on the web site and was received earlier than expected.
etrailer has great customer service and is my number one go to place for towing and trailer supplies.

by:

Sara R was helpful helping me find the right hitch for what I described as needing.
I was excited to see the hitch pin in my order details even though I didn't order it. Sadly, the picture gave me a false impression.
Overall, excellent customer service and product.

by:

Almost everything about this combo is great my only concern is the locking clip wraps around a notch in the pin instead of sliding through a hole in the pin., otherwise the insert and ball work well on my Subaru Wilderness.

by:

I had previously purchased the etrailer hitch for my 2021 Ford Transit 150.
It was a little short in length and the bumper prevented my current ball mount from working. As always, etrailer had the perfect solution. The Draw-Tite is well made and will now remain permanently with the van to be handy whenever the need arises.

by:

Delivery was fast and on time. Thanks to their installation video the install was a snap. I didn't even need to lift the van. I played a piece of card board on the ground used a couple of wood blocks to support one end while I fished and fastened the bolts. I thought it would be a lot more difficult, therefore I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely a quality product from a quality company. Thankyou ETRAILER.

by:

Excellent quality, fast shipping. Finding a metric ball for our international application was a bit difficult. We knew etrailer was the place to go for all things "trailer" related. Very happy with the purchase!

by:

Overall, I have to say that I am satisfied although not particularily impressed. The finish on the ball mount is mediocre ... there are several spots where the paint is chipped off for instance. It was received today and installed today with no use yet the pictures show the areas in question. You can tell by the label installation that someone who really didn't care rushed the operation. It also fit considerably looser than the Reese bar that I removed. I had to apply several turns of duct tape around the tube to make it as snug as the original. As I said, it'll do fine, just not impressed.

by:

Great products and service. I was able to order everything I needed to add a tow hitch and ball to my 2006 Jeep liberty. Very fast shipping. They even called me to verify orders and availability. Clear and easy to follow installation instructions. I hauled an [retailer] trailer from Texas to Ohio without any issues. Even bought a trailer and use it frequently for hardware stoe runs.

by:

It's a drop hitch not much to say, exactly what i ordered, and fast shipping.

  • Is there a Ball Mount Larger than a Class V 2-1/2 Inch
If your hitch receiver opening is larger than 2-1/2 inches then the next step up is a 3 inch if you are talking about physical size and not capacity. The 3 inch ball mount you need is # 40701 if this is the case. The hitch ball to fit is # C40085. This is not a common size though so I do recommend verifying the size of the receiver opening on the hitch. I have also included a link to our ball mount main page. If you mean capacity then the highest capacity 2-1/2 inch ball mount that we...

  • 2" Hitch Ball Recommendation for Draw-Tite Ball Mount 40701
I recommend 2" Hitch Ball - 1-1/4" Diameter x 2-5/8" Long Shank - Chrome - 10,000 part # A-90 to fit the 1-1/4" ball hole diameter of the of the Draw-Tite Ball Mount for part # 40701. Please keep in mind you are only as strong as your weakest component and this ball is rated for 10,000 lbs. This is the highest rated ball available for this ball mount.

  • Will Reese Super Titan Dual Ball Mount # RP38180 Fit a 2010 Chevy Silverado 2500
The Reese Super Titan Dual Ball Mount # RP38180 is designed to specifically fit in a 3 inch receiver opening of the Reese Super Titan hitches. The ball mount's pin hole is normally too large for any 3 inch factory hitches. The 3 inch hitches are a sort of new item so if the hitch on your 2010 Chevy Silverado is a factory hitch it is probably not a 3 inch. Measure the receiver opening straight across and if it does end up being 3 inches then this ball mount will fit. If ends up being something...

  • Ball Mount With a 6" Drop For 2021 Ford F-250 With 3" Receiver
Yes, the Draw-Tite Ball Mount for 3" Hitches # 40701 will fit your 2021 Ford F-250 with the 3" receiver. The ball mount has a 6" drop or 4" rise depending on how you place it in the receiver. You will need a hitch ball with a 1-1/4" diameter shank like the Curt 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40085. I recommend the BOLT Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # BL7023585 to secure the ball mount in your receiver. This will allow you to match the receiver lock to the key on your F-250 so that you will not have...
