Specs:

  • Maximum load (break strength): 2,400 lbs
  • Safe working load limit (WLL): 800 lbs
  • D-ring dimensions:
    • Thickness: 1/4"
    • Inner dimensions: 1" wide x 1-3/16" long
    • Overall width: 1-11/16"
  • Mounting bracket dimensions: 2-1/8" long x 3/4" wide
  • Distance between mounting holes (center to center): 1-7/16"
  • 1-Year limited warranty

Note: Tie-down anchors must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the anchors being used. For example, if you are using anchors with a WLL of 100 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 400 lbs, then you need at least 4 anchors to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use anchors in pairs.

Randy: Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com. And we get questions all the time about the different D-rings and securement points that we have available for enclosed trailers, for utility trailers, different things like that.Today we're looking at a 1/4" swiveling D-ring from CargoSmart. This one happens to have a removable pin so we can take this off if we're gonna use any kind of closed loop connection point. Overall, it gives us an 800 pound safe working load limit, but keep in mind that's going to depend on your attachment point and what you're secured to and what you're securing with. Now if you're securing it just to the thin quarter inch plywood here on the side of the trailer, probably not going to hit hold 800 pounds. If you've got it bolted down to the steel frame of a trailer, it certainly will.Have a nice large D-ring.

Gives us plenty of opportunity to get whatever type of strap or rope connector there that we might want. And I like the fact that it is smooth. So if we are going to be using a rope to lash something down, it gives us a great connection point. We can see there with our fan, nice and secure. No issues to worry about. For outdoor use, it does have the yellow zinc finish on it, so I think corrosion isn't going to be an issue for you at all.

Should look good for a very long time. Now when fully extended like this to the end of our loop, it's going to be about 2". Once we rotate it flat up against the wall, it's gonna stick off our wall by about 3/8", and from side to side, it's about 2 1/4". Now we do have this available in a 3/8" variety rather than the 1/4". So if you're looking for a higher capacity, that can be an excellent solution for that as well. All in all, I think this would be a quick and easy way to get a lot of different types of cargo secured down.

So if you're looking for something like this that can easily be put over against the wall, it'd be an excellent choice. Now depending on your situation or what you intend on securing, that's really gonna depend on how your installation is going to go. We're going to be using these on the wall to secure very light items, so a couple of self tapping screws, they're going to do the job really well. We will be sure we get into one of the main trusses that run down here to the side with one of them just to give us some good security. But if you're going to be doing larger, heavy loads, you'll probably want to go with nuts and bolts and get them, especially if you're going to go down on the floor, get them through the floor. Back that up with a washer. You could use a 1/4" bolt here, grade five, and that should get you up to that capacity.

So just kind of base what you're going to mount this with off of what you intend on securing. Once you've got that figured out, it's just going to be a matter of running in your screw or securing your bolts. Now that we've got that installed, place our D-ring up, bring our pin up and through, and then we'll just secure it with our clip. At that point, it's going to be ready for use.

  • What Hardware Is Needed To Secure the CargoSmart 1/4 Removable D-Ring Tie-Down Anchor
The CargoSmart 1/4" Removable D-Ring Tie-Down Anchor part # 3486555 that you referenced is a universal tie-down therefore there are several ways that it can be installed. If you are just using the d-rings to secure very light items then you could probably get away with just some self-tapping screws. However, if you need to secure heavier items then you would want to go the route of running a bolt though the floor and then securing the other side with a washer and nut. Depending on the strength...
