Today on our 2019 Cadillac XT5 we're going to be doing a test fit on the Yakima JetStream Crossbar SkyLine tower roof rack system. This system is specifically designed to mount to your flush mounted rails on your XT5. I've got it in place just to give you a good idea of what it looks like, but you're going to be able to carry roof mount accessories, things like bike racks, kayak carriers, cargo boxes, and more. It features 50" long JetStream crossbars. You can see here how they span across the roof of the XT5. This is going to allow us to carry not one or two bike racks, but maybe three or four.
We've got a lot of room up here. We can possibly even carry two kayaks. They're made of aluminum, so we don't need to worry about any rust or corrosion. I've got the black installed, but they're also available in silver. If this is something that you're interested in, see etrailer.com.Now they're also very aerodynamic.
You can see that here. These are going to be a lot quieter than your traditional round or square bars. They're going to work with your standard clamp on accessories, as well as your T-slot accessories. You'll simply remove that endcap, and you can slide that T-bolt right over that rubber strip to your desired location for that nice clean look. There's no reason to trim or remove that.
It just slides right over the top.Four SkyLine towers keep our crossbars in place. The towers are what attach to our landing pads, which are then fix-mounted to our flush-mounted rails. The crossbar spread that we have here is around 28", so again, you want to be sure that you choose accessories that meet that crossbar spread. The nice thing about this setup is that if we want to take it off, or we don't wish to use the bars, we can open up the foot packs on each side and they simply lift off. Then rather than leaving the landing pads open and exposed, we can take the included cover and pop that in place.
It gives us a cleaner look than leaving it open. When we're ready to use our crossbars again, they simply set in place. There's no need to make any adjustments, and we're good to go. If we'd like to increase security we could pop out the plastic core here and replace it with the Yakima Same Key System metal locking core. That way we can lock each one of our towers, and only have one key. If that's something you're interested in, see etrailer.com.This roof rack system has a weight capacity of 165 pounds. You will, however, want to check your XT5's owner's manual to see if the roof can support that much weight. You want to go with whatever number is lowest. I also like to point out that with the system in place, we're still going to be able to use our moon roof, so we won't have any issues with that. Now I'll give you some measurements. This will give you an idea of how much you've added to the roof of your XT5, and it may help you when using those clamp on accessories. From the top of the roof to the underside of the bar is about 5". From the top of the roof to the top of the bar is about 6 1/8".Now that we've gone over the features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get them set up. We're going to get that front crossbar in place, mounted to my flush-mounted inaudible 00:03:03 on my XT5. The rear one installs the same way. You can see here I've got one of my landing pads in place. Let's start with the other side. We'll need the LandingPad kit. We'll need the pad itself, the fit kit, the two screws, and the security tool. Since we're on the table, we can actually go ahead and fit the pad portion in place. It only installs one way, and we can line up the holes and push it in place. We don't need to worry about pushing it all the way down. It only installs halfway onto the fit kit itself. Just like that.Up here on top of our Cadillac's roof, we can see our mounting location here on our flush-mount rails. We'll need to remove the plastic fasteners here. They simply twist out. Sometimes you have to use a tool, like a flat head screwdriver, to kind of get behind them so you get a good grip, and then you can twist them out. So I've actually got a pretty good grip on this one here. Just going to twist it out. You can either put it in the glove box or throw it away. If your roof rack system is not in place, it's going to help keep out any debris that can cause some rust or corrosion. This one here, and we've got a pretty good grip on this one. All right, so we'll set those aside, and our pad is going to be installed just like this. We're going to be going with the first hole here, and then the elongated channel here. So we'll need both of our allen bolts to install that flat washer, and just line it up and get it started. Once you've got both of them hand tightened, you can then use that security tool and tighten them down the rest of the way. No reason to over-tighten, just get it nice and snug, to where it doesn't move.Back down on the table here, I've got one of my SkyLine towers mounted to my JetStream crossbar. We just need to repeat the same process on the other side. In order to get it onto the JetStream crossbar, we'll need to install the fit kit that comes with the crossbar, so we'll show you how to do that. We'll start by grabbing the black plastic piece here, just fitting it into the top, then we'll take the metal nut here, and set it directly on top of that bolt. Then we can turn it over and tighten up this allen bolt here with our included tool. We're going to tighten this down all the way. One unique thing about our tool is that it will click when it's properly torqued down. You will, however, want to be that it is still loose up top. If not, you can open this up here and loosen up this bolt on the inside. From there we're ready to slide it into our channel. So I've turned the JetStream crossbar over and this is the channel here. We'll need to install these two pieces within the channel, so we can turn it over and just slide it on. We don't need to worry about setting this to a specific location on the bar, we can adjust that when we get it on our Cadillac's roof. From here we can put on our endcap, and we're ready to set it in place. When we set it in place we want to be sure that the rounded portion of the bar is facing forward. That's going to be the front. We also want to be sure that the doors here are opened up on our SkyLine towers on each side. Then we're going to rest them down within the pads on top of our roof. From here, we can adjust our bar overhang. In order to make this easy, I'm going to close one side. That way it doesn't give way on the roof. By closing up the door, it's going to lock it in place on that pad. That way it doesn't become disconnected. Now, for our bar overhang we can use a tape measure, or we can just eye it up. Basically we just need to make sure the distance between here and here is the same on each side.Once we've got it set, we can open those doors back up and tighten down the allen bolt right inside. So again, we'll listen for the audible click in our tool. We'll close it back up and we'll do the same thing for the other side. Once everything's assembled and installed correctly on your roof, you're ready to load up your favorite roof-mount accessory or accessories and hit the road. That's going to complete our test fit of the Yakima JetStream crossbar SkyLine tower roof rack system on our 2019 Cadillac XT5.

These multipurpose, galvanized steel crossbars supply the backbone for your aftermarket roof rack system. Works with accessories that clamp around the bars. Pair with Yakima towers, fit kit, and RoundBar SL Adapter to create a complete roof rack.Kimberly has shown that great customer service is not dead! etrailer and Kimberly are great to work with and have earned my business and will always be the 1st and last place I look for my rack+ needs!
As for the application, I needed more space to fit my cargo box on top of my 4Runner TRD Pro’s rack. I came up this this… Thank you!
Everything from etrailer is timely and of good quality! The Yakima crossbars are no exception - they are indestructible.
Works perfectly. I am always impressed that Yakima continues to make parts for the "old roundbars" since they have since moved on to the superior JetStream bars.
My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee used landing pads 18 to mount to the roof my newer 2023 JGC uses landing pad 19. I was able to change the pads thanks to etrailer and install my older roof rack on my newer Jeep. I love that the majority of my roof rack is upgrade-able.
Excellent selection of rack parts. Very useful installation videos help when choosing between products. Easy ordering process. Quick delivery.
In the confusing world of roof racks, the etrailor site had a locator tool that made it easy to identify the correct landing pads and towers for my vehicle.
I ordered the Yakima roof rack, with the Hullyrollers for the back crossbar and the Mako saddles for the front crossbar to use with my kayak. It arrived just like they told me and I put them on my car the eveningit arrived. Got to finlly use the roof rack on June 22 to go out kayaking and it worked great. Only thing is I did not know about the air reflector piece for the front crossbar. Now I will be ordering it to help with the wind noise.
Fit our Subaru Forester perfectly. Install was a breeze. For the money I wish they came with the core locks.
Great rack, go on fast, easy to install and work well on my VW TDI wagon. Care has to be given and follow the instructions for the install to what type of rails you have. Works great carrying the VW luggage carrier and plan on using it to carry kayaks as well. Just have not decided what kayak rack type to get yet.
These crossbars were easy to install and adjust. Be sure to get all the pieces you need. There is no mention of the Landing Pads necessary to use these.
I've attachec a few pictures of the Yakima rack on my Audi Q7. It took a few attempts to find the right combination of attachments, but in the end, the pin attachments work best with the access points on the factory flush-mount rails. Great product!!!!!
necessary for using the widest cross bar option (78"). East to install
Very nice quality towers. Very heavy duty! They have a cool "snap" on / off mechanism for quick removal and installation.
roof racks showed up in great condition, and showed up as one package.... I should have ordered the J racks from here but I found them cheaper locally so Thule J racks compliment the whole setup and i am just about ready to hit the water :)
The installation of this rack system went very well, all of the instructions were easy to read and use. I have attached some pictures of our installation. The vehicle is a 1994 Honda Accord EX four door sedan
Roof Rack 2008 Saturn Astra The roof rack arrived one day early...The packaging was excellent and the quality of the product more than met my expectations. The instructions made the insulation very easy. It took less than 45 minutes to install the unit complete.
I had cross bars and landing pads on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I bought these to put on my wife’s new Grand Cherokee L. They were extremely easy to install and now I can easily move the roof rails between the two vehicles. They are a great product as is most of Yakima’s products. I highly recommend them.
The rack has been so useful since I purchased it. Staff at etrailer.com were exceptionally helpful in getting the best option for my car and answering questions. I recommend this company, for its 110% customer service, excellent prices and timely delivery.
Great products though, again, written instructions would have been nice.
One quick phone call and Gwendolyn figured out exactly what I needed for our new car to use my old Yakima rack.
You guys provide great products and excellent customer service.
Thanks
Everything arrived as promised and earlier than expected just installed. Looks like it will do everything I need it to which is haul around paddleboards. So far so good!
I have these installed on a 2022 Honda Pilot. I could not get them to fit on my raised roof rails with the included rubber gaskets. I have mounted them without the gasket but this leaves a gap between the rail and the landing pad. This seems secure but does not have a finished look. I will be trying to see how to get the gaskets to fit.
We got a Yakima Roof Rack system with locks and fairing for a "lime squeeze metallic" (Green...) 2011 Ford Fiesta 5dr Hatchback. Received the package yesterday and set it up within about an hour.
Great product and very easy to install! I called in to put my order in due to not trusting myself in getting one that fits my car. Jessica W. Was beyond professional and helpful in the process. She went also well above her position and tracked my order and sent additional information. Couldn’t be happier with the product and customer service!
