How Do You Raise And Lower A Kayak On To My 2018 Honda CR-V That Needs A Roof Rack

Question:

Do you have a solution to use an electric winch to hoist a 12 foot 125 pound fishing kayak to roof racks on a Honda CRV? The car has roof rails but need to buy the right roof racks to use with a power winch.

I do not have a solution that involves an electric winch. If you have a garage, I have an idea that might work for you. I recommend the Thule MultiLift Cargo Lift and Storage System - Ceiling Mount - 220 lbs, part # TH572. Since it has a weight limit of 220 lbs, you will not have a problem lifting your kayak. This system will allow you to raise and lower your kayak. If you have a setup that provides you with enough space to hang your kayak and still be able to park underneath it, this might be your best option.

My roof rack recommendation is a Yakima roof rack. I like this Yakima fit because their towers include a pitch adjustment that other rack manufacturers do not include. The pitch allows the crossbars to be installed level. It will consist of the following:

Yakima CoreBar Crossbars - Steel - Black - 50" Long - Qty 2, part # Y00421,
SkyLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars - Fixed Mounting Points, Flush Rails, and Track Systems - Qty 4, part # Y53TR,
Landing Pad 19 for Yakima SkyLine and Control Towers - Qty 4, part # Y00245, and
Yakima Same Key System (SKS) Lock Cores (QTY 4), part # Y07204.

This roof rack has a weight limit of 165. It comes with elliptical shaped crossbars to help reduce noise and aid in fuel efficiency. The Yakima Same Key System Lock Cores can lock your rack to the vehicle.

Lastly, I recommend the etrailer J-Style Kayak Carrier - Folding - Universal Mount, part # e98878. This kayak carrier has a weight limit of 150 lbs. It is also a j-style carrier, so most of the weight of your kayak will not be concentrated on the hull of the boat.

I have included product description links, a video link of a Yakima roof rack installation on a 2017 Honda CR-V, and video reviews below.
