How Can I Carry Two Bikes on My 2012 Chevrolet Equinox While Towing a Pop-up Camper

Question:

I was wondering if this will fit on my 2012 Chevy Equinox? We are towing a pop-up camper, so we are unable to use any hitch systems. I saw the rack that actually fit on a 2inch hitch with a camper, but I think ours is a 1 1/4inch hitch, so this seems like the next best option.

Yes, the Thule ProRide XT Roof Bike Rack # TH598004 will fit on your 2012 Chevrolet Equinox. However, you are going to need a roof rack for the bike rack to connect to. If you already have one great, but if you don't I can help with that.

If your Equinox is equipped with the raised factory rails that run along the roof then you can use 47 inch Thule SquareBars # TH712200 and the Thule Evo Raised rail Feet # TH710401.

If you do not have the factory rails, then your vehicle has what we call a naked roof. In which case you can go with the Rhino Rack ROC25 Roof Rack # RR36SR. This is a very aerodynamic rack that installs in your vehicle's door jams. It also includes locks to secure the rack to your vehicle's roof.

Both setups work with your Equinox and will work with the SportRack Upshift. You can find an installation video of the installation on this page.

Another option if you don't already have a roof rack and don't wish to install one is a trunk mount bike rack. A great rack that fits your Equinox is the Thule Gateway # TH88VR. It has 2 layers of cushioning and No-Sway cages to prevent the bikes from coming into contact with each other or your vehicle. This rack is easy to install, easy to use, and anchors securely to your vehicle. The downside to using the trunk mounted rack is that you will want to be careful around on tight turns because the camper could come into contact with the bikes. I've attached a review video on a 2016 Equinox which should be similar to yours.
