Whereas belt-driven fans use up power from the engine to turn, electric fans do not, thus removing any unnecessary load and increasing both fuel economy and horsepower. In addition, you do not have to worry about an electric fan's slowing down at low RPM, as many belt-driven fans do, so you are guaranteed sufficient airflow regardless of the vehicle speed.

While this assembly is intended for primary cooling and should, therefore, provide enough CFM to replace your vehicle's factory fan, you will still need to determine the CFM requirements for your engine before making your purchase. And remember, engines that have been modified or vehicles often used for towing may require additional CFM. There is no limit to the number of fans you can install, as long they all fit appropriately and are mounted on the same side of your radiator so that they do not cancel each other out.

Two types of turn-on sources are available for this fan. The Derale Lighted On/Off Switch for Electric Fans (D16740) allows for manual control of your fan so that you can choose when to turn it on and off. Thermostatic controls, on the other hand, send a signal to the fan, directing it to shut off when fluid temperatures reach an appropriate level, thus saving power. Once the temperature climbs again and additional cooling is needed, the fan is automatically turned back on. Thermostat switches can be single-stage with pre-set temperatures - D16735, D16738, D16739, D16720 and D16721 - or adjustable - D16788 and D16789.

  • Recommendations to Help Prevent a 1965 Lincoln Continental From Overheating at Idle
Going to a larger aluminum radiator will drastically help your 1965 Lincoln Continental stay cool. If you wanted to try a different fan setup I would recommend you get rid of the mechanical fan you have that pulls air through the radiator and go with an electric fan setup with a shroud like the # D16826. This will pull a ton more air through your radiator than a mechanical fan at idle so it should work very well for you. Fans that pull air through the radiator are much more efficient...

  • 4,000 CFM Fan Kit Recommendation for 1974 Chevy Corvette with 502 Cubic Inch Big Block
The shallowest fan setup we have that can move 4,000 CFM of air would be the Derale High Output Fan and Shroud part # D16928 as it measures only 3-1/4 inches deep. Height and width though are 28-5/8 inchs and 13-7/8 inches. If you need a smaller height and width but can get by with a slightly deeper setup we have the Derale part # D16826 as well. This measures 25-5/8 inche wide x 17-1/8 inches tall x 4 inches deep. Having either fan setup as a puller instead of a pusher will get you...

I attached an FAQ article that you might find helpful on electric fans to the right as well.

  • Does Thermostat Control For Derale Electric Radiator Fan D16826 Operate Fans Independently
That's a good question, and while there is a thermostatic fan control that allows you to turn the fan on at the temperature you want, the fans are not able to turn on or be controlled independently. The fan you asked about and its control are the following part numbers: - Derale 25-5/8" Dual High-Output, Electric Radiator Fan w/ Aluminum Shroud and Vents - 4,000 CFM # D16826 - Derale Dual-Fan Adjustable Fan-Control Thermostat with Push-In Radiator Probe # D16788 The fan control can be...

  • 4,000 CFM Radiator Fan and Shroud Recommendation for Trans Am with LS3 Engine
The Derale 25-5/8" Dual High-Output, Electric Radiator Fan w/ Aluminum Shroud and Vents # D16826 would be a great choice for a fan setup for your 2001 Pontiac Trans Am with a LS3 engine. For a thermostatic controller for the fan setup you would want the # D16788. This setup will flow 4,000 CFM which should do well to cool your modified LS3 engine that I am jealous of. I have a heads/cam LS1 in my 1998 Trans Am, but few engines have the potential as the LS3.

  • Fit of Derale # D16826 Electric Fan on 2007 Nissan Armada
The Derale Dual High-Output Electric Radiator fan you mentioned, part # D16826 is not a vehicle specific item. It will work with your vehicle if there's enough room to accommodate its 25-5/8 inches long x 17-1/8 inches tall x 3-1/2 inches deep size. A fan control thermostat like part # D16788 would also be needed.

  • Dual Fan and Shroud Setup Recommendation for a 1993 Jeep Wrangler
The best solution I could provide for you would be the Derale Dual High Output Fan with Shroud part # D16826. This setup will pull 4,000 cfm which should help keep your engine coolant from overheating. A mechanical fan can pull a great deal of air, but that's only when the engine is revved up high. An electric fan can pull it's max amount of cfm regardless of engine RPM so it will cool better than a mechanical fan.
