Advent Air Dometic Plug-In

This AC unit from Advent Air is designed to replace the old or broken Dometic air conditioner on your RV or camper. It plugs directly into your Dometic setup and works seamlessly with your existing, in-good-working-order Dometic air distribution box and thermostat. This eliminates the need of an adapter wiring kit, which saves you time and effort. The AC has a powerful fan and motor that provides a steady stream of air to efficiently cool the inside of your RV on a hot or muggy day. The included start capacitor will help jumpstart the AC. This beneficial upgrade provides the AC a boost when shore power or generator power isn't enough to start it. And everything you need in order to replace your AC unit is included, which makes installation simple and easy.

Start Capacitor

Advent Air Start Capacitor

If your campsite or generator isn't able to draw the power you need, then you may have difficulty starting your AC unit. The included start capacitor, however, can eliminate this problem. The capacitor stores energy that will later be used to jumpstart the AC. Once the sufficient amount of power has been supplied to the AC, the compressor will start to run, and the internal relay switch will turn the start capacitor off. At the same time, the compressor will send "back voltage" to the relay switch and capacitor in order to energize them for the next startup.

Simple Installation

Advent Air AC Installation 13,500 BTU

Because your RV is likely already prepped and pre-wired for an AC unit, installation is simple and easy. Most AC units, including this one, are designed to fit an opening that measures 14-1/4" x 14-1/4". Depending on your roof setup, you may need to do minimal alterations. If the opening is larger than 14-3/8" x 14-3/8", you will need to install spacers between the sides of the unit and the opening's edges. If the opening is smaller than 14-1/8" x 14-1/8", you will need to enlarge the hole to fit the unit snugly inside the opening.

Advent Air AC Collapsible Gasket and Foam Pads

On the bottom of the AC, there's a thick, collapsible gasket with 6 noise-reducing foam pads. This provides support between the RV roof and AC and seals the opening to prevent water and outside air from leaking in. Because of this, the use of fresh sealant isn't required during installation.

To install the start capacitor, bolt it to the fan motor support with the included hardware and then route the wires to the run capacitor.

Once installed, the hard plastic cover on the AC can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning.

Advent Air Warranty Coverage

2-Year limited warranty covers defective units when installed correctly on approved applications. The warranty does not cover units installed incorrectly. To ensure air conditioner is installed correctly, please see the questionnaire pdf below. A filled-out questionnaire is required for warranty coverage.

If you are not comfortable using a voltmeter (or removing the charge from the start capacitor), youll want to make a service appointment with your local RV dealer to verify the installation. Print the pdfs below (warranty- questionnaire, warranty dealer information) and take them along with the RV to your local dealer. ASA does compensate dealers for warranty work as outlined in the dealer information pdf. You may be charged by the dealer for time spent investigating the installation.

Bought a used Keystone Cougar 30RLS 5th wheel. Didn't notice that the front (optional) AC was not blowing cold. After cleaning and checkout, assumed that coolant must have leaked out. This 13.5K unit is a plug & play replacement. Had a friend help me lift the box up to the roof, and later take down the broken unit. Installation was simple: 1) unplug wiring connector, 2) remove 4 bolts, 3) remove old roof unit, 4) insert new unit, 5) replace 4 bolts, 6) re-plug wiring connector, 7) done. Only took me an hour.

by:

The RV air conditioner works great the unit is plug and play and couldn't
be any easier to install except to have someone else to do the install.

by:

Own a 2005 national seebreeze 8341 LX the rear a/c unit blower froze up. Called etrailer for a replacement unit.Bought the Advent air 13,500btu unit, great price, easy do it yourself install, plug and play. Wiring harness was correct, used the old hardware to tighten down the unit. Worked well with the Coleman thermostat. Happy camper

by:

I purchased this as an economic plug and play replacement for my Dometic RV unit. Everything lined up including the original control panel. Turned on and cycled properly. Very happy so far!

by:

still works like a champ, a year later! it was super easy to install, minimal tools you can find in a basic 'handyman' 20 piece set of tools. to get it on the roof i backed the truck up next to the rig and pushed the big box onto the roof from the bed of my truck. removal of the old one i had buddy stand in the bed of the truck as i pushed it SLOWLY off the roof to him.

by:

The unit was shipped and received in a timely manner. I am very disappointed that you don’t supply the 9 inch bolts needed to secure the unit to the roof! I removed the old unit and positioned the new Advent unit only to find that the 9 inch bolts from the old unit are the wrong thread count. It would be a grand idea to ship the new units with the correct bolts! The installation process is delayed until I can obtain the new bolts with the correct thread count. Have not been able to test run the new unit.

by:

It was easy to install. Very plug and play and works very well.

by:

Worked perfectly, no installation issues at all. Fit right in!

by:

The AC works great and blows very cold. Installation was a breeze.

by:

I am really impressed that etrailer waited a year before asking for this review. This allows me to state that their product was an easy to install plug in replacement for Duo-therm 600315.331 AC unit in my 2006 Holiday Rambler. It was not as low profile as the OEM Penguin, but still fit easily with no new wiring or thermostat change. It was 1/3 the cost of the OEM replacement and worked perfectly under hot summer conditions in the Central US.

by:

The AC unit replaced my old one and cools down my camper quicker and is very efficient!!

by:

Works great, actually using it as i am writing this review. Thanks

by:

I called etrailer.com to verify if the RV/Travel trailer rooftop ac unit they had listed would work as an upgrade to my extremely noisy, but working fine dometic. They were very knowlegable, and it was an easy swap out from the old system per the installer I hired. I have not used the new advent ac all that much yet but it seems to blow cold air a little quieter than the dometic freight train i had standard. One thing I noticed is that the start capacitor is not built in, I had to add it though it came with the purchase, this surprised me and could have been noted as such. The advent unit is quieter than the dometic, but only because it doesn't seem to force the air out as hard. I hope it lasts a long time as i do not want to have to have it replaced for quite a while.

by:

A great product for the money. Easy to install and use.
However, the lack of proper routing of cold air from the blower to the venting system made for far less efficiency.
I purchased RV AIRFLOW 157-45362472, a baffling unit that directs cold air directly from the blower to the trailers vent system. This increased the effectiveness of the unit quite a bit. This was a significant cost for me of $XXX

by:

I could not get a Demotic replacement AC for a trailer. I called e trailer and gave my model number and within minutes i had a Advent replacement ordered. I also received the unit in 2 days. I will definitely be using again and also recommending etrailer.com to who ever is in need. Customer service was top notch

by:

The Advent A/C unit is working great. Hardest part is getting it up on the roof. 6 plug works as advertised and was easy. There was a thermistor freeze protection with two wires that came from the Dometic unit. No one I contacted at etrailer or Advent had any idea it existed and couldn’t help me find a replacement. It’s working fine without it, but was concerning for a while.

Not a good choice. Compressor failed after 2 hours of use. Warranty from Advant was terrible. Told me to take broken AC to dealer so they could verify and deal warranty with them. 7 weeks later I had to pay $xxx more cause Avent wouldn’t pay the bill. I will not buy a product with this name ever again.

by:

I haven't installed the ac unit yet, but the package arrived in two days and the service and attention to my need was beyond exceptional.

by:

Great AC for a Dometic replacement. Easy install and worked with the Dometic control board. The only negative was shipping from Etrailer was delayed due to shipping address. Etrailer never contacted me and I had to call them twice to get it resolved.

by:

These A/C units were plug and play. Once you figure installation out, very few tools are needed. The biggest thing needed is a way to get the new units up to the roof, and the old units back down from the roof. Remove the inside return, remove the four clamping bolts, unplug the unit from the 120vac supply, lift unit from RV. Installation is the reverse. Units both tested out (cooled) as they were designed to. May have to seal around the inside air returns.

by:

I'm giving only three stars, because I really had a hard time attaching the star capacitor, capacitor came loose to be installed by customer, I don't understand the reason, capacitor don't fit the space that instructions say, I had to decide to installed in different way. Customer can be injured or cause damage to a/c unit.

by:

It was a direct replacement for Dometic. Worked great!

by:

Exactly as ordered. Easy installation and immediately produced cold air. Makes for a happy customer. Thank you E Trailer for the help.

by:

After a rocky start (one unit has to be replaced immediately after installation due to leaky coil ) the have performed well. They are a little louder than I expected but they cool well and don’t hav the excess condensation around the insane that old units did. I think for the 30 or so dollars extra I should have gotten the 1500 btu unit for the front. Live and Learn. Overall very satisfied. I hope the last at least 4 more years!

by:

This unit was very easy to install. This was the first time I have every installed an air cond. It fit right in to my 2006 Kodiak camper and I was able to use my original inside cover and electrical.

by:

The ac came right on time install was easy . Thanks again

That said, I am not sure how old your current unit is, but a new upgraded distribution box might be a good idea. They are not terribly expensive, and it will be easy to add on since you will be disconnecting and removing the rooftop portion anyways. Your best option will be an Advent AC unit. Since...
